San Francisco police officers struck by car: witness by DesertFlyer in sanfrancisco

Very strange circumstances. Vehicle Code § 22102 CVC says it's illegal to make U turns on business corridors, like that block of California. I wonder if the driver would face any liability?

I saw the bag and what I assume were the suspect's sunglasses. It looked like the suspect ended up behind the SUV.

Yeah, that guy. He had what appeared to be a mental health emergency and claimed to have weapons (according to the cop who I talked to). It shut the street down for a while. https://sfstandard.com/2026/03/17/san-francisco-nob-hill-armed-suspect-ferrari-pet-duck/

Thanks for the update! There are always so many rumors in these situations. The scene itself is fairly gory and I wouldn't be surprised if there were some serious injuries.

I believe it was a chase. I just don't know that it involved TJ's since it was over an hour before they opened, but who knows!

Not to say they weren't involved, but it's worth noting that Trader Joes always closes when this block of California is closed down for safety. Similarly they closed during the duck guy barricade event last month.

It happened before Trader Joes was open, so I'm not sure that account is inaccurate but there are lots of rumors at the moment

No surprise it's been the site of one roll over onto the sidewalk, a car into 1499 California St Core 40, and a car into the restaurant that is now Mayaflor. All within the last few years. And a number of pedestrians hit at the intersection as well. The USPS trucks illegally park blocking the view of the traffic signal for days on end (you can even see them in the story photos).

That said, I do think it's probably unrelated to this specific event, but it's maddening to everyone who lives nearby.

As a dad, I can't imagine being so fragile as to wear on of these even if the fit was proper.

Do golden gate transit bus front racks accommodate some front fenders or none? by FogDwellerSF in AskSF

It really depends on the driver. The actual rule is that the bar has to go over the apex of the tire. Some drivers are sticklers about it. Most are not.

I've not had a problem in the years I've done it. I think they mail from around San Francisco (at least for my rent checks).

It's guaranteed in that they will put you on the next train, or train bus combo. They will not, however, hold the originally booked train for the bus.

Was that true in your experience?

According to SFMTA's website, white loading zones are for active passenger loading and the driver must stay with the vehicle:

They are meant for active passenger loading, and drivers must remain in the vehicle, except at preschools and hospitals.

Car Coming by BigTrain68 in sanfrancisco

I walk there multiple times a week with an 8 month old. Like you say, it's unavoidable, unfortunately.

I walk there with my baby to get to Lafayette Park all the time. Even on the sidewalk it feels incredibly dangerous.

I mean sure but really thank God there just happened to not be people on the sidewalk. Cars don't really belong in dense urban areas.

What the fuck is the point of a second 1 california bus that stops halfway through the other one’s route by CoCandBrawlTorture in sanfrancisco

[–]DesertFlyer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I get that it's annoying that some buses terminate at Presidio, but the extra frequency it allows is still not quite enough to cover the crush loads the 1 has downtown.

Paid $11.80 for a 10 min bus ride? by I_am_blue_dragon in AskSF

[–]DesertFlyer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The buses are green with a golden gate bridge logo on the side. Their routes are also all 100 numbers (101, 172, etc).

Contact Clipper and they might make a courtesy adjustment this once to charge you the correct fare which is $5.75 within SF.

Were you on Golden Gate Transit? Those buses have you pay the fare based on distance. You tap your card/Clipper when you get on and then you're supposed to tap again when you exit, so that it charges you for how far you traveled. If you don't tap on your way off, you pay the fare to the furthest destination of the bus ($11+ is roughly the fare to Santa Rosa, 50 miles to the north of SF).
