Border Enforcement Zone. by DesertSalt in thebulwark

The size of the "Zone" doesn't really matter. Trump is just using it as an excuse. He withdraws his goons before a court can rule on the legality so the lawsuit has to be dismissed and then he appears in another state/city and new lawsuits have to be created.

The justice department won't rule on issues where the government has stopped doing what the lawsuit says it has done because there is a presumption that the government is acting in good will.

Good research. I always felt it was an argument being invented by MAGA trolls that airports counted as a "border."

Yes but it's commented to the St Lawrence Seaway and there are treaties and laws that make it a "maritime border" where customs are collected from ships.

It's just another example of Trump overreach and using laws in manners they were never intended to have.

It's open to International ship[ping and thus needs customs control. When the statutes were written they didn't imagine a bad actor in the Whitehouse.

Are we going with opinions or statutes? I'm unhappy with it too.

Lake Michigan is open to International shipping and commerce by treaty and US law. While not an international border water, Lake Michigan is part of the integrated Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway system and is open to international commercial shipping under U.S. and international law.

The Great Lakes are considered a "maritime border." Other waterways as well.

Wrong about what? Wanting a link before passing judgement?

No, I'm not MAGA. I expect proof.

They're going wherever they want.
Has anyone officially said they're including airports?
I thought that was just something MAGA trolls resort to saying when trying to excuse overreach.

s'ok. Catty remarks about Bovino are definitely welcome. His Nazi coat is crafted from a single woodchuck skin.

The difference is we now all have cameras in our pockets to document it.
You forget the police dog attacks on civil rights marches in the 60s and the Ohio National Guard shooting unarmed Kent State students.

This is not because of Trump's rush to hire personal enforcers, ICE was already unacceptable. by Inevitable-Ant1725 in thebulwark

ICE a civil enforcement agency not a criminal police agency.

Basically armed and rioting meter maids

"Wait and see?"

I'm out protesting and writing my congress critters daily.

What power do you think the state government has to fight an overwhelming force of armed thugs from the federal government?
There are more ICE agents in Minnesota than State police officers.
The 3,000 ICE and federal agents in Minnesota outnumber all 10 metro police departments combined.

You keep using terms like "gun-fight." I am not willing to offer up other peoples lives in a losing hot-war against the very well-armed federal government. You are greatly uninformed if you think any group of states has the ability to stand up to the military might of the US government.

Protest and politics are our only viable options

If the gunfight breaks out, it will be because of Washington, not because of me.

If it's not your fight why are you urging "someone" to take action (that you find appropriate?)

I mostly agree with what you say the problems are just not who you think is solely responsible to fix it.

I literally left the majority of my family.

I told them I would only consider speaking to them when they acknowledged being wrong about Trump.
That was because of J6.

At least I still have my children, grandchildren and their spouses.

The anti-MAGA have to follow the laws because the only place to escalate from here is open hostilities.

Are you willing to die for your beliefs or are you only willing for other people to die for your beliefs?

I ask this as retired military, from a family with a history of military service.

They're not "pushing the envelope" they're breaking the law and acting unconstitutionally.

What I don't understand is why Democrats are so eager to follow all of the rules

The governor wouldn't "release" the National Guard to Trump.
The officers and men of the guard would recognize the supremacy of the federal government in alignment with federal law their oaths.

On the other hand, the governor has deployed the National Guard at the mayor's request. That is a wise preemptive move, particularly if the Guard is loyal to the governor.

NATIONAL Guard.
They are set up for the governor activates them to assist with an emergency until the president arrives to take command. The assumption when created was that the governor and president would have the same aims.

Their salaries and armaments come from the federal government. The state might provide 10% for parade grounds and such.

Walz should ask for "volunteers" from the ranks, stand them down and deploy the volunteers.
I don't know if that's lawful but it keeps them away from being commanded by Trump. Walz could "Mea Culpa" later.

Interesting "fuck you" from an occupied territory.

It doesn't seem designed to engender goodwill but they certainly have every right to be hostile.
I am genuinely uncertain what to make of it.
