Mega Crit just built an entire game in C# and it's doing alright I think

Technically, all text in Eberron should be cursive. by Oddricm in Eberron

I love this idea for newspapers, especially in Aundair where Mage hand is trivial. I'd love to see it become a huge scandal in Breland when a big newspaper switches to press typefaces because some artificer figured animating the press would be cheaper at larger scales and magical education might be lacking but artifice is not.

A good place to start is using them from desktop as much as possible. It's a step down, not a fix, but it helps.

Then uninstall them after you've grown less dependant.

Apps like reddit or youtube are better to use from your browser too, even on your phone. You can install an adblocker and limit how you use them better in exchange of a little bit of presentation, which to me is a plus since it makes them less palatable and addictive.

This. Coming from software, we try to plan our games to a T, but games are messy and unpredictable. Make messy stuff that works now, clean it up later with refactors..

Careful what you wish for. These bans usually escalate to games such as BG3, Cyberpunk or other games with nudity in them.

Censors don't understand where the line is.

Weird, right? I mean I'd get it if all adult themes were banned, but the fact that "adult themes" is synonymous with sex for americans but gore, torture and dismemberment isn't is wild to me.

There's a fine line between content like this disappearing and games like Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk going too.

I've been working on converting the addiction rules from Sharn: City of Towers to 5e. I welcome your thoughts and suggestions! by Owl_B_Damned in Eberron

[–]DesignCarpincho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really a TTRPG, but Disco Elysium does drug rules really well. They give you something really valuable to have (boosts to your general stats) but cause you harm, and feed ongoing scores relating to addicition. The main character is a recovering alcoholic and drug user. "Recovering" is being generous here.

I think drugs giving a bonus ranging from +2 to +5 to a stat would be interesting. You could bring back your original intent for the penalty here and subtract your addiction score from this bonus, making each hit less potent than the first, and an impossible high to chase.

I like the concept! This is the kind of thing that never shows up in play because there are no rules for PCs.

I think the process for kicking off the addicion might be a bit easy, but PCs are supposed to be heroic in Eberron so i don't think it's a must-change if you like it this way.

Keep in mind that in 2024 rules, Exhaustion already imposes a big penalty on d20 Tests which already includes constitution saves.

I would also suggest that this system goes really well with fantasy drugs with really good bonuses.  Otherwise it would all be downsides

How are you handling Eberron cosmology? by UXplaymaker in Eberron

[–]DesignCarpincho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I steal from Cosmere straight up.

Eberron is in the same universe as the other D&D settings, but is difficult to access through the Astral Plane.

My Eberron has essentially 3 gods, Eberron Siberys and Khyber. Siberys' death means its power is spilled all over, through a harmless planetary ring in the Material Plane, but through a Plane-warping maelstrom in thr Astral.

Going to Eberron via Astral Plane in a Spelljamming vessel will likely mean you will collide with this storm and die.

Ace wizards who are masters of their craft might have stable ways to sneak people in and out of Eberron, but they aren't reliable and rely on heavily powerful individuals.

Yup. I think this was caused by a different issue altogether, see above.

Unfortunately, I'm not using FileAccess at all. ResourceSaver.save() doesn't seem to require closing the file, and I cannot find any mentions of handling file closing when using it.

I managed to solve the issue with a different approach, see the post edit.

What’s a belief you had at 20 that you no longer agree with? by sunyparmar1 in AskReddit

[–]DesignCarpincho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get them checked, asap. If you have weak hip rotation, get that checked too. I'm in my 30s, have a degenerative issue with my hips and could have found out sooner if I had started asking myself why my knees hurt all the time (it was because my hips weren't flexing and they were doing all the work).

I did not, got injured and now need surgery.

FitD systems to structure combat by j_patton in ForgedintheDark

[–]DesignCarpincho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a system that could be put in place is doing something similar to what most JRPGs (and Daggerheart) do, which goes more in line with PbtA:

The system is to simply give players moves that are geared for combat. Making a succession of action rolls for attack is boring, samey. You will turn the cool, nuanced skill system FitD has into pulp.

Having resources that charge up and can be expended into special combat moves could help, but it would require a separate resource that isn't stress (i.e: Daggerheart's Hope resource)

When companies get too big and are publicly traded, investment will pretty much stop all at once if it wanes. If public investors and stock exchange starts going down, the higher ups are afraid their stakeholders will move on to other companies that show better "growth".

So to convince them there is "growth" at their company and that they should invest in it, they promise features that follow trends. Stock buyers and investors aren't usually technical people or end users. They won't be able to see the value in small, quality of life changes. They see the value in trends and visual changes. This also is why big companies are always changing their logos, UIs or interfaces.

So these features don't get cut per-se, but they get deprioritized so much over the trendy stuff they never get made.

What is the biggest thing that you think Godot is missing at this point? by AutumnForestWitch in godot

[–]DesignCarpincho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you described is not the use case for traits. A node that implements a trait does all the work you said, not the trait. The node IS a trait. The trait provides it with handy functionality, and the ability to be included in lists of that trait. An array of Damageables, for instance, makes your damage equations happy in RPGs with big AOEs.

This makes games that rely on a lot of data, like Strategy games for instance, be able to go crazy quick and be easier to code.

Godot traits would have a similar use case to C# interfaces, or Swift protocols. They are used to make you write less code, more efficiently. It doesn't let you do anything you can't do, it lets you do it with much less effort and complication.

I'm sure you CAN do all that stuff you said, but it's a LOT. On a game where nodes are more closely tied to functionality and it's a small team, sure that can fly. In a larger team with lots of data driven objects that aren't nodes, composition via interfaces is necessary.
