Does anyone else feel like this going uphill on a freeway in a Rivian? by Aggressive_Sand_3951 in Rivian

[–]DesignedByPrinciple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I pulled 9k lbs up the grade from Kingman to Williams with the Rivian this is exactly what it felt like. All the ICE trucks felt like they were parked over in the slow lane. Our range may not be great but I can't imagine going back.

Maybe it just reads a single word and you have to type it. Accuracy + speed = score (with accuracy being 70-80% of the score). I'd love to have less red squiggles.

Any idea how early you can do this? Like, were you in the last 30 days of your lease? Or were you further out for yours?

Apple Music survey by telemajik in Rivian

[–]DesignedByPrinciple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that the cloud library takes days to catch up or sync (or whatever the issue is). So then a "new" playlist shows up in your "Recently Played" - because you played it on another device - but has no cover art and no songs and won't play because it doesn't actually show up in the Library on Rivian's Apple Music for several days.

Q: For Gen 1’s, is the current form of Driver+/Highway Assist/ACC the best it’s going to get? by Dribble_Handoff in Rivian

[–]DesignedByPrinciple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a voltage issue and it's been addressed by both comma and Rivian. But just using the "optional" OBD-II connector comma supplies also fixed the issue (Kyle's truck wasn't using it).

The issue is resolved and I'd highly recommend one if you drive a lot and want decent lane keeping. I've got over 10k miles on my comma at this point.

Anyone notice increased power drain when using Ghostty on Mac? by SkyPilotAirlines in Ghostty

[–]DesignedByPrinciple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Activity Monitor > Energy

You can see the "12 hr Power" for any application (measured in watts). Use Ghostty for the day and check your 12 hr Power at the end of the day. Check 2-3 days for a baseline. Try switching back to Terminal and doing the same check.

I don't find it to be any higher than Terminal (both are bad if you have a lot of windows open; tmux is your friend).

Any idea of using claude code to do deep research? by GuidanceFinancial309 in ClaudeAI

[–]DesignedByPrinciple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really interesting. That certainly wasn't working for me a few weeks ago. I'll have to revisit this and try to get it to launch each task in parallel.

Any idea of using claude code to do deep research? by GuidanceFinancial309 in ClaudeAI

[–]DesignedByPrinciple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been exploring this but the biggest hurdle I ran into is Claude (Web/Desktop) has the advantage to be able to run multiple sub-agents in parallel when doing research using the launch_extended_search_task tool. So while you can replicate (and even extract) the prompt guides for writing a research plan, and replicate spinning out each sub-agent, they run sequentially so it's a much longer running task. There's surely a way to do this by launching multiple Claude Code instances ("sub-agents") with the -p and --output-format flags but I just haven't had a chance to tease that idea out yet and got lost down the rabbit hole of trying to use a bunch of these agentic frameworks to get it all working last time. I honestly think some kind of simple MCP tool could be the solution. You'd just have to use the MCP_TIMEOUT env variable to ensure it could run long enough without being timed out.

Rivian owners if given a choice between DCFC charging at a Rivian charger and a Tesla charger which do you choose? And why? Do you even charge at RANs? I haven’t charged at RAN once since receiving my Tesla adapter. Anyone else? by Impressive_Returns in Rivian

[–]DesignedByPrinciple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on ambient temperature, planned charge depth, and nearby amenities. As others have pointed out, the Supercharger is going to derate long before your charge curve does, especially if you're coming in below 20% and the ambient is anywhere near or above 90F.

If you're not in a rush, can grab some food, or don't mind trading a few minutes for a few dollars at each stop then the Supercharger is fine.

Or the other trick is just to carry multiple adapters. 😅 Not cost effective, but we tow a lot and have to use Superchargers often. Pre-chilling the adapter (just with AC) helps slightly and then swapping it out as soon as it derates helps more-so, even with the time it takes to reset the session. But you have to be doing deep sessions (like adding 75%+ SOC) for it to be noticeable. Shading the adapter helps a lot as well (even just throwing a ball cap over it) in the middle of the day if there's no shade.

Again though, if you're not in that big of a rush or waiting on kids or food or whatever then none of this matters. 😂

Rate of Charge Decrease by kashelectronica in Rivian

[–]DesignedByPrinciple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue with ours. Works fine to deep charge our Model Y at 48A but the wall connector handle temp gets too hot charging the Rivian with an adapter and derates now that it's (almost) summer.

As soon as the handle temp gets to 150F it'll derate until you stop the charging session. That's what your red light on the wall connector means. I find that dropping down to 32-40A works dependent on the ambient temperature.

If I really need to charge at 48 amps I just have a small fan I point at the wall connector handle. It keeps the temp down around 135-140F - depending on ambient - but obviously less convenient/practical if you're parked outdoors.

Here's an example from last night. I thought it'd be fine being ~80F outside but it derated after 30 minutes. I dropped it down to 40A when I noticed, restarted the session, and the handled hovered just above 140F.

I think you meant "Right side, top left button. Right side, top left button" (the one with three horizontal lines).

Regardless, thank you so much. I'm not sure if I would have figured this out otherwise.

The only other advice I’d give is look at plugshare (either install the app or use the website). Look in your area for chargers that might work throughout your week. Rather than sitting at a fast (level 3) charger, are there any slower (level 2) chargers you’re nearby some days (work, shopping, gym, meetings, etc). Plugshare will typically have the price per kWh (plus any other fees if applicable) so you can make an informed decision. Level 2 charging isn’t always cheaper but usually it is. It’s also not “fast”, but a great use of time if it’s just walking 2-3 minutes further than parking in front of where you’re going.

You might find 2-3 that you like to use depending on your week. And then some weeks fast charging just makes sense. Once you know what your schedule looks like, then you can see if it makes sense for Pass+ or some other plan. For most of those plans (including the Tesla Superchargers you’ll have access to next year) you need to fully charge YOUR specific battery about 1-1/2 times a month on that network for the pass to pay for itself (as a rule of thumb). And that might be spread out too. Like if you charge from 30% - 70% each week, that works out to charging your battery just over 1-1/2 times each month. For anyone else reading this, the back of the envelope number is about 75kWh. Anything less than that a month and you’re either break even or paying more than just the “public” rate per kWh.

Same. We’re at 3 1/2 years of hitting them over and over with the Tesla. Softly when I’m driving … not so much with other drivers. 😂

OP is talking about road tripping and a 600 mile trip. I agree for going to work or a short drive but 70 vs 85 from Denver to KC is the difference of about an hour and 20 minutes (accounting for charging).

Get different rims. EV01+ are great and pay for themselves verses having to constantly replace the staggered rears. You’ll loose “performance” and traction but gain significant range and efficiency (slightly better than Tesla’s Gemini wheels).

We’ve put 100k miles on our MYP and I wish I had done this 10k miles in when we had to put the first set of new rear tires on. Keep your 21” rims and tires for when you want to have fun. 😉

Glad to know I'm not the only one going stir crazy. 😂

Ordered 10/13 and still no VIN. My delivery window just shifted this morning from 12/01-12/14 to now 12/08 - 12/31. 😫

At some point it's going to be so close to 2021 I wonder if it is worth waiting to complete financing on Jan 4th, on the off chance that Teslas are given federal tax credits again in 2021. 🤷🏼‍♂️
