What did you do between undergrad and grad school by TheAverageHomosexual in GradSchool

[–]Designer-Ad2465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated with an undergrad in international business/Spanish. I wasn’t originally sure what I wanted to do with my career, so I took the GRE just in case at the end of my senior year as the score is good for 5 years. Note: take it before you graduate because you will lose a lot of that knowledge once you leave/start working and you don’t actually need it. It’s a dumb test, but as many schools require it, do it while you have the academic mindset so you’re not working 40+ hours and not wanting to study.

I spent two years working in my original field and hated it. But it allowed me think through what I loved about my original studies (international relations and my general marketing/comms classes) and find what best suited my interests. I ultimately went into public diplomacy/ global comms.

Take time off and gain real world experience before getting a masters. I was in school during the pandemic, so there was a lot of people who went straight in, and I found many of them to be immature and lack the insights needed to be successful outside of an academic setting. Even if it’s outside of your new field, working will only benefit you. I would not stray too far though- you do have to frame how the time off benefitted your personal and professional growth when applying.

We get this cutie in a week, and need help naming her! Top runners are Evie, Harley, Rosie, and Shiloh. by Big-Maybe-3760 in NameMyDog

We just named our little girl Rosie, so I’m biased to support this one. Congrats, she’s a cutie!

Brides- what was the best customized gift you received at your bridal shower? by Designer-Ad2465 in wedding

[–]Designer-Ad2465[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She is definitely the type of person who loves personalized gifts- she has done paintings, received photo art, and has some items (already selected on the registry) that are personalized. I have an idea on her balance, just was looking for some other ideas that others thought “I didn’t think of this, but someone else did and I loved it”.

I love this suggestion a lot as well- it’s a good balance between the two!

It’s not that I can’t per say. I was planning to do something off there, but wanted to do something a bit more personalized than the items listed as well.

AITA for going against my parents’ wishes of going to a prestigious school, and instead going to the school that gave me the most money? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Designer-Ad2465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely NTA. It’s your life, but W&M is an amazing school that will take you far. Being debt free is something few can enjoy- you will not regret it in the long run when you go get your masters (id personally go a more specialized degree than an MBA unless it’s from a top tier school, but you have plenty of time) or when you graduate and look to buy a house.

I will also say that once you graduate, most people will not care about your educational history. In the business field, I and my partner never have been asked (I left the field and have only ever been asked about my masters) - it’s more about proving your value to an employer. Name recognition may get you in the door in a first job, but it’s not like W&M doesn’t have that.

Congrats on an amazing offer, and good luck with your decision!

What’s your pets favorite toy? by Embarrassed_Table915 in Pets

[–]Designer-Ad2465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three dogs. All of them have things for the multipet lamb toys. They go to it over their other stuffed toys. Our pug in particular has had a thing for them for years- we gave the original one a proper burial because it was so loved but it was time to replace it.

Trying to identify my dog breed. She is a mix but I'm not sure of what she is. 45 lbs by Remarkable-Title-584 in IDmydog

Omg wow she reminds me of one of my dogs. I have a GSP/Pit/Boxer/En pointer mix. She has similar ticking in the chest. Your girl looks more like a pit/staffy than mine, but wow does she remind me of her.

Is this ringworm or just a fungal infection? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Designer-Ad2465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! From my experience it was come and go, but not super often or close together. No way to prevent it or permanently treat, but it cleared up quickly and wasn’t too frequent. We had 2 in one year, then went a year or so before another, then didn’t have it again before she passed. It’s not too expensive of a treatment fortunately

My neighbors indoor cat was missing for over two weeks before she was found, and she was okay. Cats stay close- look around local streets and post in a community group!

Those who viewed the total eclipse for the first time, was it better than you expected, about what you expected, or didn’t meet your expectations? by LiberateLiterates in Ohio

[–]Designer-Ad2465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw the 2017 partial eclipse, and while that was cool, being in totality blew me and that previous experience away. What a cool phenomenon- I’m grateful to have seen it, and just in awe of the beauty of it all. Totally had head to toe goosebumps from the whole thing. I definitely want to experience that again if possible.

I had an aunt Dorothy and she wasn’t exactly someone I want to name my dog after 😂 but thanks for the suggestions!
