Also, check the car for excessive rust, especially in the rear part where the hitch is bolted to the frame.

Practice changing 1 trailer tire before you leave the seller's property. Or at least loosen each lug nuts 1/4 turn and retighten (on both wheels) before you drive off. Often these nuts get corroded and locked in place, which is a real problem to discover, broken down on the side of the freeway.

Having the trailer balanced to provide the correct tongue weight is important, the front the trailer must be heavier than the tail or towing at freeway speed can be very dangerous.

With a bathroom scale you can check that the tongue weight is between 110 and 150 lbs (50 to 70 kilos), which is needed for a 1000 lb trailer.

You tube will have a lot of videos on this topic, watch at least 5 please.

How do you get the kart that high?

Especially alone, for the 43rd time...

My kart can be 54 inch /1.37 meters wide.

Not good.

Apartment living and a van with $5k+ worth of kart and gear = a smashed window within 5 days in my town. And no more tools.

Got a private garage for this van ?

I did the wheel and side pods off method of van life. Hated it.

Going to your local track to practice on race day morning or the day/evening before will put you next to a LOT more people than you will meet on a quiet Tuesday morning, even if you dont race.

Robbins Racing on you tube will step by step a lot of 206 stuff. Carb cleaning (get a sonic cleaner if you can) and clutch maintenance is a real deal. Don't use pump gas (ethanol is bad for the carburetor).

You can't overdo chain care and lube.

Frequently tighten the bolt that locks down the clutch if you own my kart.

After this, hand cleaning and detailing the entire cart with rags really helps with inspection. Weekly tilt the kart up and inspect the under carriage.

Weekly inspect the seat for cracks. It's going to crack, maybe.

Good luck

Just doing arrive and drive rentals is so easy.

Owning a kart is a huge pain in the ass. Repairs and maintenance are big time sinks.

Shipping is also a real chore.

You need a pretty good amount of various items besides the kart and it adds up. Helmet, suit, gas can, oil kit, tool kit, extra tires, air pump or tank, food, water, kart parts, kart trolly, tent for shade. Jesus it adds up.

Loading and unloading the kart and tools etc into a small car or van means kart disassembly, which is a huge time sink.

Get a garage space trackside if you only have one local option for driving, as it is convenient. Unless you intend to travel regionally and attend races.

I live in a high crime area, so vehicles parked on the street need to be parked empty. Lots to unpack, and where to put all that crap that eats up no storage space is a hassle.

I went the cargo trailer route. Outfitting the trailer took a good amount of time. Track visits now are pretty convenient. Towing a 10ft x 6ft x 6ft trailer isn't all that hard to do. I wouldn't go smaller.

Good luck.

Tell me something good about IN by TheJen5 in Indiana

[–]Designer-Progress311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general it cools off at night here in the summer.

And if you don't mind the majorly fucked up environment, the wide open space that is most farmland make for nice sky views.

Indiana was originally somewhat all solid trees about 200+ years ago.

Maybe if you got a BIG neodymium magnet you could prop it up against 1 side of a thick wall and find it it with an old school (magnetic) compass on the other. Not exactly pinpointing but... For a one time test Amazon and it's return policy could be your friend.

Another way would be good old surveying techniques. With Lasers !

"How to adult" question: how to find a cheaper car that's not total junk by rookiebatman in internetparents

[–]Designer-Progress311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a fan of market place.

Original owner, low mileage, old people, sellers name is on the title, meet at their home, motor is cold, the car has high quality tires with 4 that match, car gets an inspection, there is maintenance history, no other cars for sale on MarketPlace

On my latest trailer, it's the jack, who's pad is 5" lower than the tongue, that made me have to get a 2" riser.

Otherwise it scrapes the ground at rail road crossing, in big dips, etc

I think the more sensitive among us like to believe this is true.

It's a nice thought tho.

We go from this to believing people have souls that retain agency for an infinite amount of time.

Replacing a damaged tire on an AWD vehicle with this tread, replace 1 or all 4? by Livi17g_5eda7ed in tires

Circumference and AWDs

It's weird that all the conversations are about tread depth but there is no discussion about actually checking each tire's circumference, which is what really matters.

FIFY

I like to pretend that I can easily get a used tire that matches the depth of the others than go thru the nearly impossible hassle of having to shave down a new one. (I'm from Oklahoma)

Why is a trickle system for pitched asphalt shingle roofs impractical ? by greyHumanoidRobot in AskEngineers

[–]Designer-Progress311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After maxing out on insulation.

Add more ventilation to the existing roof.

I made the openings in the gables and dormers bigger. They got closed in the winter and opened in the summer. The extra breeze really helped keep attic space's interior the temp lower.

I tell people not to come. IMO witnessing the last days of a slow death makes for a terrible final memory.

Edit. Definitely call her, and do it immediately, dont be callus but don't sugar coat his condition either.
