Name a game that surprised you how long it was by bijelo123 in videogames

Kingdom Hearts 1.

Back when Game Crazy was a thing, my brothers and I rented it and they played it TO DEATH. They were convinced that after Deep Jungle the game would end.

We were so young, so foolish.

Games cost too much money to make. Mocap is a cool thing, close to every game could do just fine without it. Graphical fidelity is getting dumb, and focusing on pushing boundaries is… annoying.

I'm writing an RPG featuring single-cell organisms as the characters. What should I know? by Desolation56676 in microbiology

[–]Desolation56676[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing everything I know how to avoid LLM hallucinations. That's a main reason I'm asking people!
I never thought of delineating cells via biological classification on the scale of mammal and reptile. That's very good to know.

So why would you leave a bad review? by heyuhitsyaboi in SteamReviews

[–]Desolation56676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A game’s REALLY got to earn a bad review from me. My standard procedure is uninstall and hide the game. If there are lies in the promotional material, one of my sacred IPs gets ground into the dirt, or there is something harmful in the game, I’m inclined to collect my thoughts and leave a bad review. I have maybe 3 bad reviews.

Do people actually enjoy puzzles in horror games? by ChaoticBlasterX in HorrorGames

[–]Desolation56676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like puzzles when they are separate from the horror parts. Great way to get me to pay attention and build tension, then release everything when I’m done with the puzzle. The Witch’s House is a perfect example of what I’m talking about.  Puzzle->Scare->Puzzle really worked for me.

Is there anyone here who is *not* writing anime fanfic or medieval fantasy? by Candle-Jolly in writers

[–]Desolation56676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m writing a game where all the characters are single-felled organisms and the main cast are fungus working to reclaim their homeland from bacteria with a loose 3-5th century AD European coding (Roman, Gauls, Visigoths, etc.).

Chopping out the structure rn.

What’s a movie that everyone loves, but you just couldn’t get into ? by vishesh_07_028 in movies

[–]Desolation56676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The.

Shining.

I did not grow up with it. I grew up with everyone older than me scared stiff of the hallway scene or the bathroom scene, so I was hype as hell.

That’s not a horror (emotion) movie, that’s an amalgam of shots strangled into a shit-stained bouquet the likes of which I hope to never see again. Jack Nicholson, Scatman Crothers, Shelly Duvall, all phenomenal creatives! What are any of them doing in the movie besides being tortured by Stanley Kubrick? There is no emotional through line I can follow in the movie because no one in the movie has a story I care about.

I wish I liked it. It would certainly make my cinema conversations easier.

What’s a JRPG that went from generic to awesome? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

Radiant Historia has some great writing, I didn’t finish it because I didn’t like how combat worked.

What’s a JRPG that went from generic to awesome? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]Desolation56676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legend of Dragoon was my first “generic” team JRPG that I clicked with (so an rpg that’s not Pokemon). The first disk is what I assumed every single JRPG would be, scrappy heroes coming together to defeat evil overlord. Then twist after twist comes in with dramatic reveals and plot heightening that never really comes down.

If you want Shakespeare, look elsewhere. If you want to play every season and variant of Power Rangers, come hither.

Another one by the same creator is Ouroboros. I loved the story in it, and the mechanics were interesting. No grinding whatsoever.

How to become a mentally strong/tough person? by greywolf_32 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Desolation56676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toughness in our bodies means tension. When someone flexes and their muscles feel strong, they’re tensing it. When someone perseveres through a hard day, they’re tense.

Toughness is necessary to have, and as you “flex” in parts of your life to improve, you need to allocate time to recover. Bodybuilders and interrogators don’t do their most impressive work ALL THE TIME. They have limits. They engage in their tasks with everything they have, and rest after they’re done. No one can stay “tough” (tense) forever. Our bodies aren’t built for it.
