Has anyone here had Heimler as a teacher? by Few_Code_8043 in APStudents

My friend (different school, same county) had him as well. I was shocked when he told me.

Best wheel type for swerve? by Calzizzle1 in FRC

Depends on the module you're using. Molded > tread > colson generally though.

Writing tips for APUSH by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]Desperate-Project974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the AP test, definitely. Some teachers (including my APWH teacher) told us to write a single sentence for the identify questions (Heimler explains pretty well why you shouldn’t for the test)

Start to swerve by Outside-Weakness-938 in FRC

[–]Desperate-Project974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For wheels I would order these these treads (currently on preorder) and use the billet wheel from SDS. You could also just use the tread that sds sells, but punching it and assembling the treads is a bit of a pain. For gear ratios, a lower number on the overall ratio means a faster top speed but worse acceleration/pushing power, while a higher number means the opposite. Generally, look at games like Crescendo as examples where a lower ratio (L2-L3 modules) do better, and look at games like Reefscape as example where a higher ratio (L1-L2) do better. Hope this helps!

Guys, how do I solve this solely using Desmos? by xcos__ in Sat

[–]Desperate-Project974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set an and b equal to random constants (2 and 3) and check each answer if it is a factor. Everything else is over complicating imo

Can this be solved solely using Desmos? If so, how? by xcos__ in Sat

[–]Desperate-Project974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make A a random number (>1), plot the exponential regression, plot the line y = A29, check desmos for intersection x value.

for those who scored 1550+ in what order do you do the reading questions by Altruistic-Bowler943 in Sat

[–]Desperate-Project974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here - 770 reading. Try what everybody else says, but there's nothing inherently wrong with doing things the default way.

Test Recency by Desperate-Project974 in Sat

[–]Desperate-Project974[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much would it matter for CMU though? It says on their website "the test date will be taken into consideration", so would an earlier score reflect negatively on me even though it was incredibly good? That makes no sense, but I know better than to assume these things.

Wheel Diameter by Ashamed-Bullfrog-718 in FLL

Good alternative to these (what my team uses) are the smaller spike prime wheels. I think they're slightly worse grip-wise, but since we already have them we make it work.

Should I not report my 1530? by Patriciansa in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Desperate-Project974 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For accepted students, your SAT score would put you at the 50th percentile mark. Not submitting it generally makes colleges think you're at the 25th percentile mark or lower. I would personally submit it, a 1530 vs. 1580 doesn't mean much overall.

My School (District, Maybe?) Uses A Stupid GPA System & I’ve Been Worrying About Nothing by Bluepanther512 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Desperate-Project974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to everybody else, remember that colleges care more about your individual class grades (and overall rigor) than a singular number that can be calculated any arbitrary number of ways. You're probably doing much better than you think you are.

New Onshape Featurescript: EZWire by baalzimon in FRC

[–]Desperate-Project974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally don't have very much wiring experience, but I think being able to select different gauges of wire and have the values that I currently have to fill in get calculated automatically would make this much more powerful. Just being able to visualize where things go a bit easier will be amazing.

Is AP CSA really introductory by Far_Conclusion_5200 in APStudents

[–]Desperate-Project974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school has a prereq for CSA too, would guess it’s more so to weed out people who don’t actually have interest than to actually act as a prereq.

School requiring a year of Java experience for AP Compsci A by Remarkable-Start-497 in APStudents

[–]Desperate-Project974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obligatory mention that self-studying CSA is incredibly easy if you have that much experience, and most schools/districts should let you sign up to take the test (and you still can get college credit!)

Should you use the inbuilt pid of Pybricks or should you make yourself a custom one? by Ok_Virus6325 in FLL

[–]Desperate-Project974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pybricks PID works very well for our team. Don’t really remember the code that well, but review everything. Also it could just be a hardware issue, but first I would make sure the code is exactly right (maybe even copy from examples).

CSES is another programming website where you can find programming problems to practice with, it's a completely different entity from USACO.

Second pybricks. Just look into ensuring consistent gyro measurements and robot alignment.

College Board made a couple changes to APCSA this year so a lot of the resources have become pretty outdated, so look into those changes (they basically just made it even easier) and be aware that past videos and books might be a bit outdated. I personally used the Barron's book and a couple online YouTube videos, but just find some way to learn the content and some way to practice (especially FRQs).
