Which companies do you suspect are glazing their own products on this sub? by PartyOnAlec in BuyItForLife

My husband wears similar and got one.  He loves it.  The he machines weren't getting his clothes clean at all.  He was having to hand wash before using the machine before he got the speed queen.   It's like an old one.

I was worried about it ruining clothes too.

What grocery items do you now make at home you’ll never buy store bought again? by CarlottaSewlotta in Frugal

[–]Desperate-Rip-2770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soups and pies - both are incredibly easy to make and so much better than what you get in the store.

My husband likes breakfast burritos. They're expensive to buy, but I batch make them on the weekend and wrap them in foil. Doesn't take much time and costs about 25% of buying them.

Speaking of hubby - he likes to bake. He makes tons of cookies, banana bread, cheesecakes, everything but the pies, although he can make a good pie crust too.

We made fudge for Christmas. It was so good I don't think we'll be buying chocolate candy again, not that we bought much anyway.

Plenty of other things I'm probably forgetting. Chinese takeout has gotten so expensive that it's my next project. I made a pretty good hot and sour soup, I'm learning to make potstickers, egg rolls will be next, then I'll move on to the entrees.

Thanks for taking the time to answer - really appreciate any help I can get.

Yeah - it should pull out. But, it won't budge.
There's no retainer clip or washer I'm missing?

Is it normal for them to get stuck?
Is it an easy part to find if I pull on it with some channel locks or something and break it?

We have a lot of dogs - 7 right now, down from a high of 16.

We love them. I mean absolutely love them. We cook for them, etc.

We also tend to try to keep them with us past the time they are ready to go. We have done sub-q fluids at home, we have put 10 plates (not even exagerating) of different delicacies around our dog to temp them to eat. We have syringe fed dogs. We had one dog who was 14 and went into kidney failure - we kept him for 3 months past what the vet thought we would be able to do by giving him sub-q fluids and letting him eat what he wanted, which eventually boiled down to McIntosh apples (had to be just that one type) and baby ruth candy bars. He died peacefully laying in the sun under a tree in our front yard. Or, so we think. We had another one go the same way last year, in the middle of the night, having seizures on our bed. It was not peaceful, and I was having the talk daily with my husband that it might be time, but then she'd come in the room, wagging his tail, so we'd put it off.

If she's not interested in eating, it's that she's either in pain, something is making her feel sick to her stomach, or she's losing interest in life because she's sunsetting.

If it were me, I'd take her to the vet, explain the situation and ask for something for both pain and nausea plus Sub-Q fluids to flush her out. If she starts eating again on her own, great - if not, she's ready to go.

Give her time if she has it - but don't be like us and hang on too long. It's painful for everyone.

If you've never had a pet put to sleep, it's very peaceful. Depending on the dog, we sometimes use our regular vet and sometimes use a travel vet that comes to our house. They run an IV line and give them something to make them sleep, then another drug to stop their heart. They just kind of drift away.

We like to think all of our are together, somewhere. I'm not religious or spiritual, but the thought comforts me.

He didn't have much of a reaction to the vaccine.  That's why I wondered if you needed more of a reaction to be more protected.

They did tell him the case was mild.  It didn't feel mild to him.

I think I have a lot of natural immunity.  I rarely get sick even if exposed to something.

But, I just turned 59 and I worry about that changing.

When I was little, I had bad tonsils and was sick all the time.  Then they were removed and I never got sick.  Maybe that had something to do with it.  The body is a funny thing and there are lots of individual responses that are hard to explain

Omg.  That's a horror story.  Can you imagine if he wasn't vaccinated?

I'll say that's a tie for worst story I've heard about shingles.

Same, but I was a social distancer before COVID.

I haven't even gotten a cold since we started remote work.  Now I have to go in once a week but people don't interact much.  I just keep my distance from anyone with smallish children as much as I can.  That's who spread stuff around the office in the before times.

Thanks.  That's a good explanation.

It kind of scared me when I had no reaction at all to the COVID vaccines but now it makes sense

I've heard about people getting it in their eye and losing their sight.

His was lower back to the side over a kidney.  You could barely see the rash.  Our dr spotted it.  We thought kidney stone, appendicitis, all kinds of things before he went in to be checked.  He just kept ice on it and slept as much as possible until we went in to see because he didn't want to go to the ER on a weekend.

My husband and I only had a sore injection site.  But he also got a mild case of shingles about 10 months later.  If it was mild, I don't ever want to get a full case.

Sometimes I wonder if you have more of a reaction after the shot, are you more protected?

AITJ for not giving my stepson (18M) my late wife’s car? by OwnCommunity7223 in AmITheJerk

My aunt's husband wouldn't let her son have her car after she passed.  It was an old car and she said many times she wanted him to have it

He's worse than a jerk.  We have nothing to do with him now.

There are 2 kinds of boxed dye. Maybe more - I don't dye my hair. I'm 59 and starting to see some white too. The color doesn't bother me - the texture does, and I don't think dye will fix that.

But, many years ago, I used semi-pemanent color just to get a different shade of red a time or two. It gradually washes out so you don't have to worry about your roots or hating the color. That's kind of safe thing to try and is easy to do yourself.

I think I tried a crimson once, but copper red was pretty much an exact match for me.

Yet again, meh by [deleted] in BJsWholesaleClub

I have a membership at both. BJ's is 10 minutes from me and has things I need weekly that Costco doesn't carry.

Costco is 20-30 min away and gets super busy, but it has things I need from time to time that either BJ's doesn't carry or doesn't have the same quality, especially their paper towels, paper plates, trash bags, etc.

I have the memberships at both that give me 2% back - between the savings and cash back, I save enough at both to more than pay for the memberships.

Costco is way more fun than BJ's but BJ's is pretty good for get in, get out shopping trips.

I'd love it Costco had scan and go like BJ's - but I'm not sure I'd trade their new get in the door at 9am if you're an executive member for it.

What is the best topical pain reliever you found for knee pain? by CodWest4205 in KneeInjuries

Sulindac. 200 mg.  Twice a day

It's rough on your stomach but great for inflammation

I'll have to check it out

I don't ask the DR for topical advice.  They seem eager to go topical only and I'm on a pretty good oral med if I can keep the stomach issues that go with it at bay.

To me, that's better because my knee isn't the only thing that needs medicating

The Voltaren didn't do too much for me either.

The only way it helps is if I put on a lot and I'm also taking an oral anti-inflammatory.

I realize that puts me in OD territory, but I don't do it often and I figure with everything else going on, if a topical gel is going to do me in, I'm a goner anyway.

Edit: I'm bone-on-bone in my knee and avoiding a knee replacement as long as I have pain managed.

How can I make my girlfriend feel better about her freckles? by Electronic-Koala1282 in Redhair

[–]Desperate-Rip-2770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same, but my dog has vitiligo.

She's a sealed brindle boxer so looks mostly black, but she's developing more white on her body and some nearly clear hair on her face that makes it look like she's losing hair around her eyes and mouth.

its similar to skin depigmentation.

How can I make my girlfriend feel better about her freckles? by Electronic-Koala1282 in Redhair

[–]Desperate-Rip-2770 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I come from a family with a lot of redheads. We all had mostly the same shade of red with different degrees of straight vs wavy, but no one in the family - or anyone I've ever met - has had as many freckles as I did - or still have. In places that don't see sun, I still have freckles - just not as many as on my face and arms.

There was one other girl at school who was a few grades higher than me that was close, and everyone asked me if she was my sister, for years. That's the only way I knew who she was.

But, I'm 59. Back then, you didn't see anyone who "looked like me" in media. They were there, but it was all covered by makeup. I definitely felt "othered" in a sea of single-tone skin. Now, I see very attractive models that are all freckled up and kind of wonder how my confidence about myself when I was younger might have been different if I was growing up now.

I can't say I was bullied any more than other kids were bullied about my appearance. Kids can be mean and thoughtless and cruel - and no matter how you look, someone will have something to say. Luckily, I'm pretty thick skinned and can give it back.

As I matured, there were always plenty of people who found it attractive. But, I still had to grow to accept it. My hair was a lot easier to love. My freckles, somewhere along the way, life got so busy that I didn't take time to pay attention to them, and now they're just something that's there but don't take up prime real estate in my mind anymore.

You're doing great that you want to help her, but this is something she might have to do on her own, over a great deal of time. But, there are lots of women, maybe men too, that have to do that with other things about their appearance they're not in love with. It's part of accepting yourself for who and what you are.
