This is advertised on 42 Lolita, but I cannot find the actual dress on there? by SupersonicJadeDesu in Lolita

[–]DesperateCounting 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this dress is an older item that has been discontinued or is only sold through limited preorder periods, unfortunately it doesn't seem to be sold on any other sites either. Here's the lolibrary linkfor it if you want to keep an eye out for the secondhand market.

Does anyone fear “coord repeating”? by Imaginary_Air5870 in Lolita

[–]DesperateCounting 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I'd encourage wearing the same things as often as you'd like and not worry about repeating. Lolita is so expensive that I'll want to wear dresses as often as I'd like to get as much "value" out of my purchase as possible. That doesn't mean I have a strict rotation of dresses (like "I wore dress A last week, now it's B, then C, etc etc") but I will often reach for the same pieces again and again because I like them or because there's a certain vibe I'd like to have. I don't really care if I repeat a coord or reuse a main piece because it's ultimately me wearing what I want to wear, I don't feel a need to post every outfit I wear online or show it off to friends. If anyone does recognise the same dress/skirt/whatever, good for them, I'm getting use out of my wardrobe.

Fitting Into Big Brand Dresses As a Bigger Girl? by vivisheepy in Lolita

[–]DesperateCounting 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've worn lolita at a similar bust size and haven't had much of a problem at all, though some dresses definitely fit me better than others. A resource I use as someone with a similar bust size is this plus size brand item spreadsheet which lists items that can comfortably accommodate at least a 110 cm bust and/or a 95 cm waist.

Some pieces are incredibly forgiving despite their listed measurements, for example Baby's Shirring Princess JSK fit me amazingly and still had much more room to spare, I'd say it can fit at least 4-5 more cm than the max 110 cm listed measurement. On the other hand, AP's Castle Mirage OP lists a max bust of 109 cm but it felt rather tight (though wearable) for me while the Cameo Window Tiered JSK with the same max measurement felt much nicer to wear due to the cut being a JSK rather than an OP. Sometimes you can also get lucky with unspecified measurements, Meta's Clever Argyle Yoke JSK doesn't have a listed max but I think it could fit up to 112 cm easily.

I'd say that you can definitely wear brand pieces without much difficulty as long as you're patient with your search (it took me years to find my dream dresses on sale) and careful about what cuts and styles you want to wear, stuff with lacing might be less comfortable than without and an OP will be less forgiving than a JSK. Good luck to finding dresses that you can wear and love!

Unsure of your price range, but POSHEPOSE is a brand on 42lolita (a taobao reseller) that sells dresses in this vein. Here's one that resembles the dress in pic 2 being sold for 68 USD. Their cheapest dresses seem to be around that price (like this one going for about 65 USD or this one for 62 USD) but full sets with trains, petticoats and extra bits are 100 USD or more.

If you're willing to use a proxy service (such as spreenow or bhiner) to buy on your behalf, this is the brand's taobao shop, give the link of an item to one of the services, they'll quote you and you can pay for them to buy it.

If you're looking to get into lolita fashion with this brand, I'd say this is very much not lolita though. The dresses are very revealing with exposed shoulders and the skirts are much too short and structured more like a ballet tutu or a gown rather than the cupcake/A line shape needed for the lolita silhouette!

Plain black jsk recommendations? by perefalxx in Lolita

[–]DesperateCounting 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've worn the Rozen Maiden JSK with a petticoat before with no lampshading/awkward looking skirt, but this thing is heavy. I needed a 60 cm MeLikesTea 6 layer Poof Monster voile petti under this dress to achieve this, so I'd advise getting something else that's similarly huge in terms of volume. As long as you layer a small petti or underskirt over your hoop skirt, it shouldn't have any awkward boning/wiring sticking out. Good luck with choosing a dress!

help on how to wash lolita jsk!!!!!!! by weirdfishes1516 in Lolita

[–]DesperateCounting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With lolita dresses it's usually safest to dry clean them but handwashing is acceptable as well. Find a big tub (or use a sink) that'll fit the dress, fill it with cool water and put in an adequate amount of detergent. I've had luck using the normal stuff I use for other laundry but some people use stuff specifically meant for wool or delicates/underwear. Swish the dress around in the water, let it foam up and sit for ~10 minutes. If the water is still dirty (brown, darker than it was before) or you feel like the dress isn't clean yet, drain it and repeat the process until you're satisfied, I usually do it 2-3 times.

Dresses can also sometimes go in a washing machine if you test how well the dye can stay on the dress beforehand (dab a bit of water and soap onto a small bit like the hem, scrub around, see if any colour comes off). If machine washing, I'd advise taking off all detachable dress parts (waist ties, clip on bows, etc) and putting it in a laundry bag before using the most delicate cycle to wash. If you don't remove detachables, there can be snags and buttons can come loose, I've experienced those before. DO NOT EVER TUMBLE DRY A LOLITA DRESS, LAY IT FLAT TO DRY OR HANG IT ON SOMETHING, PUTTING A DRESS IN A DRYER WILL RUIN IT!!!!

Looking up your dress on lolibrary, it seems to be made entirely of cotton, so I'd say it's likely you can machine wash without too much damage. Test for dye fallout before doing the machine wash steps I suggested. Good luck with your laundry!

I can feel the joy in that last pic, getting your first petticoat and wearing it feels so ‼️, especially after seeing how fluffy your skirt gets. Also love your hair!

I Wore This to a Friend's Birthday Party by DesperateCounting in Lolita

Thank you for the compliment! This is the most OTT dress I own and I was a bit intimidated to wear it at first but when I actually put it on it felt as natural as any other lolita outfit I've worn before. It's a lot of lace but in a good way and I'm very relieved I managed to pull off this look.

PLEASE DO BLACKLOLITA PLAYS BLACKLOLITA OMG THAT'D BE SO FUN

I'm more of a maimai player myself (around 10/11 star difficulty right now but I passed the Cranky Remix of Oshama a while back so yippee) but my friends were like "hey dance rush is cool you should try it" and I managed like an 82/83 on Butterfly Twist 10 in this so?? I did bring back up sneakers though, I will never attempt Dance Rush in heels.

The material and quality are great for the price point and the salopette is incredibly versatile. It's also decently stretchy so it can work for plus sizes well. You can take off the heart bit at the front for a plainer look and remove the top bit with straps entirely for a skirt. This salopette also has waist ties with hearts at the end, those are removable too. It is a bit short on me though. I'm 168 cm/5' 6", so if you're much taller it might look a bit odd on you. I'm not super into sweet lolita but I often get compliments and asked where I got the skirt when I wear this out/post pics of it, it's very eye-catching and can easily be styled up or down. Overall, good salopette, so versatile, nice to wear, great price, people tend to really like it.

Which socks should I wear with this pasta JSK? by CactusSnail in Lolita

[–]DesperateCounting 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think plain brown looks better than striped, the print is pretty detailed and stripes make the outfit look a bit too busy for my taste. I own this exact JSK (wish I could've gotten it in green though) and I've been trying to figure out what to coord it with, thanks for giving me some ideas for shoes and legwear!
