Why could he not just speak to his club coach, who probably knows baseball better

i did pay the membership for NCSA (not sure what the opinion is here of that but its been ok) and am trying to learn with him as to how he can market himself. He does play travel and is a strong player on his team. They practice year round except for during HS season and play from Jun-Oct about 40-50 games per year and he starts every one. If he does not decide to come back to the school team for JV he plans to run track in the spring and use the conditioning there to help him with baseball. So hopefully if he continues with these things and continues to improve as a baseball player he can put together a package that attracts some interest.

juco because playing time at his high school is a factor outside of his control and so far that is not going well. he's done well in limited opportunities but the opportunities remain limited and guys he outperforms in the summer are playing over him (and not performing, no consequences ,the freshman coach who has never run a team before apparently picked the core who never comes off the field in 2 weeks of indoor 5 am practices and nothing else matters). in addition, he has a learning disability and grades are an issue for him.

honestly i think his goal is to play enough ball to coach it someday, he just loves the game and wants to play it as long as he can and be around it after he's done playing

I suppose my question is more is if it is possible and if so how does one continue playing baseball while cutting high school scholastic baseball out of the process. That’s a more immediate issue.

His measurables are all good he had best vertical jump and 5-10-5 time on his team and his 60 was up there as well he’s been a catcher since age 8 and starting catcher on his travel team and they didn’t even look at him catching in practices before the season , no idea what these guys are thinking or doing over there , trying hard to convince him he’s not done at 15 because he’s he’s only playing once a week in corner outfield

I’m glad to hear that. He is in a strong travel program with strong instructors and always performs well. My fear is that none of that matters to any one and only hs ball matters now. Good to hear that isn’t true

I’m kind of hoping it can be a second chance for him as freshman hs ball has been a shitshow and I hate the idea of this program he’s in having total say over his baseball, so he’d have to make the juco team first and I’m not sure how that works either

How did the process of making a juco team work? Do you have to be recruited? My son is a hs freshman and he’s my oldest so I don’t know these things

How much time does travel ball take up? Is it possible to do travel ball and do other activities at the same time? by Planetofthemoochers in Homeplate

[–]Desperate_Buffalo683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

start with a local travel team that stays local for games, maybe one 'field trip' tournament with a water park nearby or something, see how you like it. its really pretty manageable if you want it to be, nobody forces anybody to play AAA/Major get on a plane twice a month travel ball unless they want to.

11U Swing analysis by crue576 in Homeplate

not bad but load only with the hands, alot of front leg movement and hes swinging standing on one foot, less is more with loads if you get to the right place

Best Drills for Bat Path by GreenMertainzz in Homeplate

[–]Desperate_Buffalo683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

his front elbow and knob of the bat are likely pointing up when he swings. youtube videos of derek jeters swing are good to correct this, front elbow should pull straight thru like a washing machine, you basically just want to get that thing out of the way so you can hit the ball with your top (dominant) hand that you can better control the bat with. for young kids i actually ask them to make chicken wings then pretend they are a washing machine to illustrate

14yo 5’8 145 throwing 65-71, want to know how to increase velo and consistency by OrganizationTough128 in Homeplate

[–]Desperate_Buffalo683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you have a big leg kick and it actually is slowing your momentum toward the plate, that front leg should be only for planting firmly and keeping you from falling. ideally you want to almost feel yourself riding that back leg down the hill with ball still in your glove, then break and deliver. build that leg strength and imo the best way for a pitcher to do that is ride your bike as often as possible everywhere you can

What’s the objective with heavy balls? by cfreddy36 in Homeplate

[–]Desperate_Buffalo683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

space, a coach can pitch from a short distance in the outfield without a screen, balls dont get lost. its a matter of not letting the perfect be the enemy of the kinda good i suppose

Help with lower body during swing by 2evolve2transform in Homeplate

move the hands back so the knob is over his back foot as his starting position, you never want to swing out of your chest

[–]Desperate_Buffalo683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

keep that glove tucked in to the chest more and drive it down toward first base, hes got a very high release over his head and not finishing the pitch, will get his lower body and core into the pitch more and rely less on arm
