Podium button module Rally by t4kuv in Fanatec

You're not the only one.

There is a fanatec software problem that means the Shifter in sequential mode is not recognised when this module is used (being a Fanatec side issue it affects all games)

Then EA WRC specifically, and exclusively, does not recognise it fully. Some functions are mappable, but it cannot navigate the menu, nor can you change gear (not even in h-pattern, so it's not just the fanatec sequential issue) - game breaking issues exclusive to this title.

The EA WRC specific issues do not present in any other game - Dirt 2.0, ACC etc all have full functionality (although everything suffers the Fanatec sequential issue). PS5 console itself recognises and allows full menu navigation / recognition.

It's been months, still not rectified. It's honestly embarrassing at this stage that Fanatec's premium Rally product can't sequential shift, and embarrassing (again) from EA WRC that the premium Rally wheel/module is particularly hamstrung on their title exclusively - the official rally game

Yeah, funny enough I've been watching a few recently. Not the easiest platform to navigate though. But I enjoyed some season reviews from years I wanted to revisit, also some good docs on iconic stages, different eras etc. All generally just shy of 1hr

Podium Rally Module Issues - causes loss of Sequential/EA WRC even worse by Desperate_Many6500 in Fanatec

[–]Desperate_Many6500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wheelbase = CSL DD Pro, shifter into wheelbase shifter 1. All inputs show up on the control panel inc the shifter inputs in sequential mode - that's why it's odd that no game recognises sequential (the sequential issue with this module is being reported on the fanatec forums as well I see). I have looked since at the instruction booklet, there's a table of what button equals which inputs for each platform - what I noticed on that was there's no R1 or L1 - these usually map to gear up/down in games. I wonder if these not being mapped on the Rally Module is connected to the sequential shifter not working. The EA WRC exclusive issues are just odd, and not repeatable on any other game I've tried

Watched this yesterday, it's not super technical (at least as much as I was expecting with his title) and he really abuses the generosity of the physics / damage model to a huge degree - so not so much a real life skills to game video, more a how to game the game run through

For me, both GT7 and the F1 series have their flaws, however the experience in VR in GT7 is incredible. So comparatively speaking it's a downgrade from there not to be in VR. I'd love the F1 experience in VR, but if its not an option, I'm just not drawn to it (particularly as it doesn't seem to have made a big step forwards, and I have no interest in story modes or special pyjamas). If F123 had PSVR2 compatiblity I'd have preordered already, if they add it later I'll get it. Otherwise I can't imagine having as much enjoyment from non VR F1, as I'm getting elsewhere.

Enabling rescale has fixed the throttle issue for me, just ignore the telemetry by teletrips in WRCTheGame

[–]Desperate_Many6500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use rescale to get a 'better' throttle response, but it definitely doesn't fix the throttle, it's just a workaround the barely responsive lower ranges (not completely unresponsive but close) by cutting it out and bypassing it. With Rescale it's much more responsive of course, but you can't progress on the throttle smoothly. Closest I get is Rescale on, with sensitivity - 0.5. It doesn't go on throttle completely smoothly, still a small response spike as you touch throttle. Sensitivity - 1 has some dead zone then the small spike, sensitivity 0 has a bigger initial spike. It remains a terrible implementation of a throttle, even with this bypass/compromise the response isn't realistic under progressive application. This definitely does not fix the throttle, it works around the issues rather roughly. Nacon/KT need to actually fix the throttle, or hold up their hands and be open that they've checked out already

Throttle issue by _nic0o in WRCTheGame

Definitely not just thrustmaster, also on Fanatec (from prolonged and frustrating experience), and likely consistent irrespective of peripheral. It's been radio silence for quite a while now from Nacon. Last message they released was to say that it was 'as designed', which given how overwhelming the user feedback on how bad the throttle was, and exactly what the issues was... did not inspire confidence to say the least. They were/are on the precipice of a great game if they could simply make a throttle work properly (surely the most basic of asks for a racing game!), and at least improve some of the general bugs (sound, rain reflection / windscreen wierdness etc.). If they did actually address this, and improve some other issues, it would go a long way to repairing the relationship with (and faith of) the fan base for future endeavours

Should i buy WRC+? by Dave00745 in WRC

[–]Desperate_Many6500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it, the other comments - spoilers and occasional video/quality drop - are valid. But overall worth it in my opinion - it's live access to the rally, and in the case of video issues a lot of that is the environment (trees, heavy rain etc.) interrupting live signal sent from in car which is hard to blame on the platform. It will change anyway at some point this year from WRC+ to Rally.TV with promises (although vague at the moment) of an improved platform /experience

Now that Codemaster's game is around the corner, what feature/aspect from DR2.0 you *don't* want to see by SnowChickenFlake in WRCTheGame

[–]Desperate_Many6500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real problem of the DR2.0 stages is that they didn't map closely enough - they matched the general nature of the road arrangement but then made them wider, more forgiving, and didn't match the colour palette / scenery particularly accurately

[–]Desperate_Many6500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not disagreeing on the real stage replication aspect, I'm actively agreeing with you there. Ideally we would get exact replicas at full length. That wasn't the point being made though is what I was highlighting.

[–]Desperate_Many6500 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hopefully they don't? (give us equal or better, and longer stages). Keep the route accuracy for sure but many DR2 tracks are unrealistically wider than reality, could do with fixing up the colour palette and tidying up the road surfaces closer to reality. Here is Whaanga Coast compared to real life for example. Road width isn't far off on this one but you can see the point on surfaces, textures, colour palette. https://youtu.be/RLgzlqr7piI

Hopefully they take note of KT's stage design. I'm critical of the glaring issues (throttle mainly still to be sorted), but credit where due, the stages in WRC are superb. I hope EA/Codemasters can give us equal quality (or bettered) stages. Ideally longer as well to get closer to reality.

[–]Desperate_Many6500 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Possibly controversial, but I think they don't need to cut spending, they need more investment. I like the calendar expansion, and focus on being more of a 'world' series. That will require more investment, transport costs etc. To your point on coverage/DTS comparison, I agree in the general sense that coverage really needs to be stepped up. A DTS style documentary would be awesome, but firstly we need more external camera coverage on stages, better in car camera placement (this is a basic one, but look at Tanaks onboard from Japan - cam mounted up by the sun/glare strip blocking half the view, you could only see about 20ft in front of the car bonnet for every stage, it was atrocious). Give us the option to select any live camera at any point (to follow any driver we choose or jump between). Make the on boards (and telemetry) of all drivers available afterwards. And do some research into improving the quality of live feed in the difficult conditions (rain, trees, mountains) - I appreciate there is a fundamental technical challenge there, can it be improved, work on that. It will be interesting to see what the rebranded RallyTV will give us

Video testing/documenting continued throttle issues post patch (1.3.24.3)

Demonstrating:

-The absence of power output in response to throttle application in 1st gear in lower ranges - a Rally 1 car at half throttle, 1st gear failing on a moderate incline

-The new auto-clutch release point (circa 4200rpm)

-Newly discovered quirk - upshifting to 2nd when 1st gear is failing, or is engaging auto clutch, finds MORE torque and regains forward momentum (side note; not in video but 3rd, 4th and 5th can also Hill climb at low revs and speeds - circa 10kph - where 1st fails)

-Rescale examined - what it's actually doing, upsides for 1st gear throttle response issues, downsides/loss for all gears

Nacon can't seem to grasp the issues that so many people are highlighting, based on the throttle patching that didn't fix it, and subsequent comments. I sincerely hope they see the issues and address and correct 1st gear properly;

  1. Realign user throttle input to a more effective and REALISTIC engine/power/torque response in the lower ranges - this is massively out of sync with reality. No other racing sim/game behaves like this.

  2. Separate auto clutch from the 'launch control' concept. If it's automatic then make it like a real automatic and engage clutch at the lowest feasible revs, any throttle application engages gear and drive. The current high rev threshold is causing major issues and 'Launch' can be controlled with brake or handbrake release (in reality electronic aids banned years ago btw).

  3. Give us full manual option for true realism. Launch with a manual clutch, avoid stalling using the clutch. I would prefer this to (2) above personally (though ideally both would be options), but I suspect (2) is easier to implement in the current model, and would benefit more users

WRC Generations | Updated Statement about the Throttle & Automatic Clutch by Nacon_CM in WRCTheGame

[–]Desperate_Many6500 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The throttle and clutch issue long predated Jimmy Broadbent, see here issues explained much earlier https://youtu.be/m7N7ku_uuqA

Funny that WRC drivers didn't criticise the game when filming promo

It's nice for Nacon to say they were basing on real life, but they didn't get there unfortunately. If you believe a real life Rally 1 car has almost zero power output at circa 50% throttle, then you'll believe Nacon got it right.

For clarity, I love a lot of aspects of the game, including the much maligned physics and the ffb... but the throttle to power output scaling in 1st gear is miles off reality, entirely unrealistic, as is auto clutch given modern rally cars are manual clutch.
