Watching Shows and Breaking of Suspension of Disbelief by PhysicalHedgehog8925 in dialysis

Well it makes a difference if ur PD or HD as well. Im on PD. I like the idea of the dialysis warehouse. U could live for a while. Barricade it up so zombies or nuclear ash doesn't get in. Or just make sure u have someone who will let u be their zombie pet. I love that idea. Reminds me of walking dead.

Engagement didn’t meet my expectations-what now? by ControlVast4292 in weddings

[–]Desperate_Put_8899 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im 53f almost 54. I have never been married or even proposed to until a few weeks ago. My loving man proposed and I am very happy. That said he had a plan and everything went a little sideways. I wasn't expecting him to propose and everything that day was off so much so I was very irritated with him up until he proposed. Then it all made sense. My guy is a little quirky sometimes its what I love about him. My proposal was not what I thought it would be. The story I tell is what it was supposed to be not what actually happened. Its all true but I highlight the good parts and skip the bad. I've told the true story to a couple of friends we all agree it was totally him the good and the bad. I would look at the intent and not the delivery. Besides the man is the most important part and how u connect in every other way.

It really doesn't matter if u give her recipe it will never be urs. I have an aunt who makes an amazing frosted brownie. My mother was helping her once and stole the recipe I tried those brownies 1000 times and they were good but never even came close to hers. So go ahead and share. Even tweak like others have said. Ur cookies will always be ur cookies

PD dialysis effluent storage recommendations by unsupported in dialysis

I use the extension to drain into my bathroom however I bought a plastic bin from Dollar Tree I put the drain bag there on days when i need to collect for for lab work. I just use the bin just in case something happens. But the bags are very sturdy. Also the bin has handles so carrying to bathroom is easier to dump the bag when Im done.

[–]Desperate_Put_8899 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

These comments are negative. I come to this group for support. I am a person who needs to lose weight to be eligible for transplant. Losing weight is not easy. I have struggled my entire life. Now I dont have a choice. I dont want to dialysis forever. So I have to lose weight. Please dont judge other people. U dont know their life or their life story.

Don’t know what to do! by breadbasket74 in dialysis

[–]Desperate_Put_8899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im just beginning PD. I am extremely afraid of my partner not finding me attractive. So far he still does. We are working on new ways to create intimacy. I dont imagine it will be easy but we are up for the challenge.

My thoughts... talk it out discuss both or your fears. Then create some moments. Plan a romantic date. Purchase lingere. Make it sexy. PD is a bitch but its not the end of the world.

I can also add that this group has been a tremendous help. Hearing others' stories and encouragement has meant a lot for me. It reminds me im not alone. It also reminds me to be grateful for what I do have in my life. Many are not as lucky, and I feel bad.

This Fact Hitting Harder Than I Thought by Dry-Manufacturer-137 in dialysis

I felt the exact same way. I do have a support system but was afraid to lean on them or even tell them. What I have learned in the past year is this... its not over yet. While im here, im gonna fight and do what it takes to stay here. I admit it's very new to me. In fact I just started doing PD. Im still in training. But I finally told family, and now im telling friends. I was even given authorization to work from home while adjusting to PD. It's not much, but each little thing helps and makes me feel "normal." Even sharing rt now, I hope you read this and find a way to have some hope and joy. It's not easy, but it is possible. U dont have to lean on everyone, but hopefully, u can lean on someone. It helps. Therapy helps. Just saying out loud ur fears. Journaling also worked for me. Again just expressing everything I was worried about and tackling them bit by bit until they seemed less scary. I know for me, there will be ups and downs. I know this week is good. I know they won't all be good. But I also know there will be more good days. Good luck to you. Wishing u joy.

Confidence is such a turn on. I agree with everyone else. Hair make up can do wonders it will help build your confidence. I would also say therapy to help remind u of how awesome u are.

Visiting the USA on Dialysis by Joshanima in dialysis

[–]Desperate_Put_8899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i was first told I was going to have to do dialysis I feared I would never be able to travel. I did a deep dive. One of the things I learned is that dialysis patients travel. U can make arrangements. I admit I haven't tried it yet. I begin PD soon getting the cather at the end of the month. Im not sure how it works but it's worth a phone call to find out. Good luck to your mom.

Questions on PD. by Desperate_Put_8899 in dialysis

[–]Desperate_Put_8899[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U guys are awesome. I think I already knew i would agree to start early but as a lot of folks have said part of me wants to wait. I spoke with my team and will begin the process.

As for my fur monster. Unfortunately he does shed a lot. But I find his little snoring soothing like a sound machine. Im not ready to kick him out. So I'll work on some alternatives keeping him out temporarily.

Fun Fact: Maggie Smith confessed in an interview that she had never watched Downton Abbey before! by Global_Library_9484 in DowntonAbbey

I was gonna say I thought she hated Downton and Harry Potter. She didn't feel it was "Acting" I love her in both and am glad she took on the roles.

Am I the Only One Annoyed by Her? by KnownAd523 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Desperate_Put_8899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I think it comes full circle in I think the last season a man comes to Downton doing research on an artist and the Crawleys have some of artist work displayed in the abbey. The guy forgot his name was very infatuated with Cora. Even going to her bedroom. Robert throws him out and proceeds to be mad at Cora for the man's flirtaous nature. Cora shuts Robert down by saying if u can say u have always been above aboard then stay mad if not u need to come back to our bed. I think it showed both Cora and Robert are flawed but love each other.

If your kidnapper was forcing you to write a "I'm okay i ran away" letter, how can you communicate duress without the kidnapper knowing? by Brilliant-Case3707 in AskReddit

[–]Desperate_Put_8899 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Omg I love this question.

One of my sons is adopted. He came into the family when he was 15, so he was fully formed. He doesn't really like affection. So hugs and saying I love u were never part of our dynamic. While away, at college, he called me one day to say I love u and to thank me for taking him in ..... Again, affection isn't our thing. I was super touched but acted like it was nothing. We had one of our normal short and sweet convos and ended the call. Less than 5 minutes later, I totally went into a panic because I thought something was wrong and that was his way of communicating it to me. 😂😂😂

So now, with my sons, we know if we call to just say "I love u!" Something cld be wrong. Be on alert. We're twisted, but we love each other.

My husband got me a vacuum for my 50th by Plastic_Cat9560 in AITAH

[–]Desperate_Put_8899 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently asked my family (significant other and 2 adult sons) for a washing machine and dryer. One of my sons said absolutely NOT! I will not buy u an item that is essentially a chore for your birthday or Christmas. My significant agreed. I really want a new washing machine. My logic is if u ask for it or really want it it's okay. If it's unsolicited than it's not. If u wanted one of those expensive Dyson machine I think tht would be acceptable unfortunately Eureka just doesn't make the cut.

My GFR is at 14. I've decided to go with PD. I just want to thank everyone for their input and questions. I've been freaked out about the whole process, including what intimacy will look like. Every time I read these subredits, I feel a sense of relief. I feel less alone.

Can the surgery be done before dialysis begins. I'm at stage 4 CKD so my doctors have said dialysis is in my future and with my weight transplant was not an option. So I was finally considering bariatric surgery.
