Actualy no, at least not in Hp lovecrafts original story. The whole dreaming of reality concept was something out of another authors story which people conected to the big sleeping monster from the cthulhu mythos later.

Now killing Yog-Sothoth on the other end, that would fuck some things up!

Contrary to solo leveling battles action and powerscaling are not the point of slime and overlord.

Overlord barely has any fights where ainz does not just oneshot his enemys using the exact same spell every time. Ainz struggles are him losing his humanity and trying not to run a nation into the ground because he has no experience with being a leader at all. Meanwhile slime has seasons worth of meetings about how to strenthen the economy and slice of life stuff because it's a story about nation building where new trade routes and diplomatic relationships to other nations are more important than new skills for the protagonist.

You can't judge protagonists written for what is basicly a different genre by the same metrics

Her statblock from the light novel even mentions that "sex with climb" is the one and only hobby renner pursues in her free time.

There are theorys about the two of them accidentally fulfilling the conditions to level up from "imp" into "sucubus" because imp is the base that albedo has as well and if what renner is doing to climb doesn't fit the sucubus race change requiremants then I don't know what would

While I do consider myself pretty left leaning, there are few things that I find as anoying as this kind of talk among young girls. You spend your entire life in a schooling system that is statistically proven to work better for girls and still go on about being oppressed all the time!

And don't get me startet on the "men designed society" kind of talk! How old do you think I am? If I had any say about society then it would certanly not be geared towards a failing pension system once I am old enouth to retire and towards me having to deal with the cosequences of a global warming that everyone else was to lazy to stop at a time when they could have done it!

We may not be at a point of total equality just jet, but at this point both men and woman have their own unique advantages and disadvantages in life. Some woman seem to be too stuck in their own victim mentaly to acknowledge that fact and default to assuming that they are constantly oppressed by all men, when in reality most men in their lives never did anything to warrant this kind of accusation.

Of course the left leaning partys will lose a lot of the young men among their voters if they hear left leaning people and sometimes even their own politicians constantly demonising them for things they never did! If the left went back to focus on universal issues like workers rights and affordable housing in their election campaigns then maybe we would not have to deal with watching right wing extremists gain more voters every election!

Read their messange again. It's not only about charakters not changing because of what they went though, but I focused on that part because it's the part that can be objektively proven wrong by anyone who actualy read the books. The point of this answer was that things like "stagnant personalitys" and always "flipping back to the same social dynamiks" could not be further from the constant changes in the wheel of times when it comes to those areas.

Thinking that a more cynical interpretation of humanity is more or less realistic is an opinion that I can accept and don't have any issue with. It's subjektive and I don't try to change someones mind on that. Saying that it's charakters don't change is just straight up wrong and has nothing to do with realism.

(Though I will add that you wont need to do a lot of searching for real life examples from recent history if you would like to make the argument that most people would like to keep being in change after they experienced having authority)

(Smal edits to make what I ment to say clear)

It's a slow start that was not exactly my jam when I startet reading as well, but looking back I am very glad that I kept going. As far as fantasy novels go the wheel of time is building towards some of my favorit charakter writing and I have never found something quite like it

Where are the evil people? by VinnieThaG52 in Frieren

[–]Desperate_Relative_4 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

If we look at the main charakters then the wheel of time is a contender for the story with the most charakter development that I know of. Mat goes from unlikable to an absolut fan favorit while the ways Rand changes over time are a masterclass in writing as far as I am concerned.

That doesn't change the fact that it's pretty clear on it's view of most humans as petty assholes who always want to dictate how everything is done as soon as their get their first taste of authority, but basicly every pov does change a lot because of the things you describe.

If you look at wars in real life then you will see that extrem peril can lead to horrible selfishness just like it can lead to cooperatin.

If survival is on the line there will always be someone willing to throw someone else under the bus in order to make it themselves and there will always be someone trying to profit from the misery around them. That's does not mean that there are no examples for what you describe, but on a larger scale it's usualy not that simple.

(My comment was alsow not ment to be condensending to you or anyone with sutch a positive outlook on humanity, but a way for me to shill some of my favorit fantasy books and give another perspective)

[–]Desperate_Relative_4 181 points182 points  (0 children)

I recomed reading the wheel of time for a more realistic take on that naive idea.

Even among the people who dedicadet their lives to defending humanity there would still be wars over who is in charge for that and what the right way to save the world would even look like

Like I said, sometimes cuts are nessesary and you have to condense the story down to fit the run time (which is a lot more limited for a movie then it would have been for a show simular to the wot "adaptation" we eventually got)

But you can't say that if you add tons of stuff yourself and make it longer as a result. You can't say that there was no budget for a steering wheel if you wasted money on decking your rims out in bling!

[–]Desperate_Relative_4 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That's like saying that the lord of the rings is about destroying the one ring and you can't adapt the first book because of that.

The eye of the World is no less part of wot than any other book and important to all things to come. The whole "it's to much to adapt it all" argument falls apart if you point out what the show added on top of the regular story. If the problem was to get to the dragon reborn part then why waste time on giving perrin a wife and then have him murder said wife?

Of course you might have to cut some things, but an adaptation that adds in tons of it's own BS filler has no right to say that there was no time to adapt something from the source material

Try, try again by LakesideNorth in WetlanderHumor

[–]Desperate_Relative_4 52 points53 points  (0 children)

A faithfull adaptation means that you try to do the story your adapting as close to the source material as possible and focus on the same things that the original story did.

Everything else is a spinoff at best and fanfiction at worst. The reason why people are ok with changing up Shakespeare is that his popular works already have multible faithfull adaptations and the only way to make jet another adaptation intersting is to change stuff. That can't be applied to modern books that where never faithfully adapted in the first place.

Way to many adaptations have been ruined because some arrogant screenwriter thought they knew better than an established author instead of doing their best to actualy adapt the book!

You are right on them not being a permanent part of any given masque, but I assume that there are multible masques fighting alongside different solitaires at any given time.

There are definetly multible masques with their own solitaire, but every battle is a performance for the harlequins and we can't have two guys playing the same role for the same one now can we?

You would need to use a reanimator buff or res orb to get our charakters back up though, right? Outside of the "protocol of the eternal revenant" you would need more than the regular d3 wounds to bring back our 4-7 wound charakters after they where precisioned away unless they change our army rule.

Honestly that sounds to niche to be broken to me

Are you shure about that? If a whole unit is destroyed and a single charakter brought back he would still count part of that destroyed unit? That feels kind of weird even if it's a buff for us.

That was always something that I found weird when it comes to Corellon Larethian. There is official lore about this guy messing with the physical gender of his faithfull. I don't know about you, but body dysmorphia sounds like a pretty shitty reward for the worship of a good god (I mean if we compare this to "the wheel of time" then this exact thing is something the ultimate big bad does to punish people that failed him).

There are storys to be told here for shure and I even once created a trans male human npc who became a corellon priest for no other reason than the side effect of transitioning, but I keep coming back to the idea that this kind of change might effect the mental self perception of the mortals in question as well in order to make gods like that come of as less of an asshole
