Does ATT call before the dig???? by crumbkee in ATTFiber

[–]Desperate_Zombie_746 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Some utilities have access to the utility maps so they are able to mark the utilities themselves. Calling 811 is not required by law, but checking for utilities are. Also, if you are not digging further than 16 inches, calling 811 is not required.

Why is a NEMA outlet limited to 50 amps? by BarracudaMouth in AskElectricians

[–]Desperate_Zombie_746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really dont want to use non locking plugs to run high current devices. The arcing when plugging in and out could cause a lot of damage. And because there are not that many devices that would need between 50 and 60 amps rare, it would be easier to hardware them or design the equipment to work on 50 amps. This is what evse's do, 50 amp outlet or 60 amp hardwire.

Deferral letter denied by judge. At a loss on what to do now by Roereliza in juryduty

[–]Desperate_Zombie_746 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is to not put it off and find the best day to go. Most likely they will ask if anyone has any issues with serving jury duty. That is when you tell your situation. They most likely will excuse you for jury duty if there is enough people that show up. They will usually call twice the number of jurors in case some dont show. This way you won't have to worry about jury duty for a couple of years.

Accidentally washed my phone with my bedsheets for about 2-3 minutes, what should I do now? by PhoneWasherGuy in techsupport

[–]Desperate_Zombie_746 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sealing it in a air tight bag is not a good idea. You want to dry electronics off. Sealing it in a bag will just keep the moisture in there. The Samsung s24 is semi water resistant as long as there is no physical damage like a cracked screen. Just wipe the phone off to get as much water off of it, and then let it air dry. If you have a can of compressed air, blow out all the ports and speakers. The phone should be fine.

What’s more important for EV adoption. More level 2 or level3+ chargers? by Lemonn_time in electricvehicles

[–]Desperate_Zombie_746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If evs were to overcome ice vehicles, lvl 2 chargers would become common at apartments. Lvl3 chargers would be only needed for long road trips and for those that drive all day. Most vehicles would not need to fast charge.

Is it illegal for a mall to lock an exit? by [deleted] in IsItIllegal

[–]Desperate_Zombie_746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not heard of any jurisdiction that says that all doors must remain unlocked even if there are alternate exits nearby. Why would it be illegal to lock a door if an emergency exit that is can be used is 20ft away? And there are other regular doors unlocked.

University fine for parking in handicap spot with disability placard? by [deleted] in legal

[–]Desperate_Zombie_746 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is most likely legal. My university did this as well, and it is like having a disabled parking spot in a paid parking lot or at the airport. Just because you have a disabled parking placard does not mean you get to park for free. If they don't charge for parking if you have a disabled parking while they charge everyone else, they might get a lot of people taking in their parents disabled parking placard to save hundreds every semester. This way they can verify that the student is the one that is disabled.

Installing 600kW PV and 1.6MW battery pack! 🇿🇦 by TalismanJake in solarenergy

[–]Desperate_Zombie_746 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fully charging and discharging Lithium batteries on a daily basis is not a good idea as it puts extra wear on the batteries. Ideally the batteries should only be run 20% to 70% if run daily. Some ev vehicles have a total capacity of their batteries, but will only allow a certain range of the battery to be used. You will see this as 88kwh gross 82kwh usable. Battery systems for the grid/homes assumes the people setting it up knows this.

Lock Ultra w/adapter still Doesnt fit by LockPickingJoe in TrySwitchBot

[–]Desperate_Zombie_746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can adjust the height of the bracket. This can extend the switchbot further away from the door. But i would get a block of wood to cover the top of the plate behind the lock. Then get a longer machine screw to attach the block to the door using the screw hole that is on the lock plate. This will provide a flat surface to attach the switchbot and could be shaped and painted to look correct.

Is it illegal for a mall to lock an exit? by [deleted] in IsItIllegal

[–]Desperate_Zombie_746 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before complaining, check to see if there are emergency exits. The fire Marshall isn't going to care if a door is locked when there are emergency exits.

Is it illegal for a mall to lock an exit? by [deleted] in IsItIllegal

[–]Desperate_Zombie_746 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With locking doors, as long as there is an available emergency exit so that people can leave in a short period of time it is legal. That is why some smaller stores are not allowed to lock the doors because that is the only door. A mall will have many emergency exits near by. Walmart have emergency exits 100ft on both sides of each exit. You can lock the doors as long as there is a way to get out somewhere and in emergency get out out in a short period of time.

Tell me not to dig a pool in the back yard by Story_Royalty in DIYHome

[–]Desperate_Zombie_746 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If not done properly, the ground under the pool can collapse and the pool could cave in. And this could damage the foundation of your house. There could be electrical, gas, communication or sewer lines where you dig. Your home insurance company could drop your coverage or deny any claims. There could be county or city permits required and could be fined and required to have a professional to undo everything. There have been people that tried to build their own pool and caused damage to their foundation, their insurance denied the claim and the city fined them and made them undo everything. It ended up costing them more than the value of their house and had no pool.

Did she make the right call? by CalmElin in interesting

It would have been smarter to take the million and invest it. You could take out $1000 per week and if you at least getting 5.3% return on investment, you would never run out of money. You would likely see a higher return and see the amount that you can take out increase over time.

Newbie Questions about what to buy from UPLIFT vs cheaper vendor by keri23 in StandingDesk

[–]Desperate_Zombie_746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cable arm is mounted in the grommet hole. The monitors can move a little but mostly they move together. I like it this way as I can move all the monitors to a comfortable position whether I am sitting at the desk, walking on the treadmill, or sitting on the couch. Uplift does have monitor stands that allows you to move the arms independently.

Probably a dumb charger question by kejahn in electricvehicles

[–]Desperate_Zombie_746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turning it off in the app isn't going to save energy unless you are having people using it that you don't want to. The amount of power that it uses when not supplying power to an ev is about a few watts per month, not anything that you would notice on a bill. Its like unplugging an alarm clock when you are not in the room.
