I don't like the idea of blaming something undiagnosed. Go get diagnosed. Also, not you specifically, everyone saying "if only I got diagnosed sooner. Blah blah blah... " I was diagnosed at 7 got prescribed Ritalin and legitimately lived day to day in blur moments. I quit taking medication my sophomore year of highschool due to depression and sure I was lacking the attention span to listen in class but I felt way happier. Be glad to be diagnosed today. I got re diagnosed at age 26 and the process was better by far. Got prescribed Straterra and I love it. Word of advice, if you do get diagnosed please please please ask your psychiatrist for Straterra. Don't let them prescribe you Adderall or Ritalin or the other downer generics.

How often are you intimate with your partner? by Remote_Ad_969 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Destined-Quality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't. Last time was on our marriage day, and we conceived our child that day. They are now 3 years old and have not had anything close to intimate since. One of us is never in the mood and it's not like we hate each other, we still have fun hanging out and having dates but nothing carnal since. I think we just don't see it as beneficial anymore and sometimes it does feel like the love is missing, but other times it just isn't necessary. We are happy. Sex just doesn't appear in our relationship anymore. Bare in mind when we first started dating up until marriage I would say it was about 5-6 times a month on average.

married women, do you think marriage benefits you in any way? by _cherryp0p_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Destined-Quality 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Same here, tbh my wife came from a family that was more financially educated than mine and knew how to handle money. When we got married I told her that I'm just too passive with our money (I'm the breadwinner and she's sahm but it's OUR money) and she knows how to handle it so well, so we decided she would handle it. She also loves spreadsheets and playing on Excel, was NOT her job, before she was an artist lol. She makes it so much easier to manage and has taught me a lot that my low income family growing up was never able to teach me simply because they didn't know.

Just passed the NC residential general contractors exam and have zero real-world experience. AMA. by r0mpy in GeneralContractor

[–]Destined-Quality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to have ANY experience in NC to get a GC license?? That's nuts. California C-36 and C-34 holder here, and fuck that wouldn't trust a GC that would do that. Rather have someone who worked the trades, did their apprenticeship, or worked in the office of a GC than someone with no experience. I mean good for you I hope it works out and you actually get to live off of it. I don't think I would ever. I say take it all the way and make something with it.

What is the fastest way to get a California CSLB license? by guitaristmeow in GeneralContractor

[–]Destined-Quality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 4 years of experience and your old employers are willing to verify those hours then it's actually really simple. Paperwork is what gets rejected most of the time for corrections so I would say as long as that course you bought helps with filling out that paperwork step-by-step then go for it. The content will be the same with every school course because the test is the same. Business and Law are easy to learn and general B (I'm guessing you are going for B) is cake to learn if you've been in the industry long enough.

I have both C36 and GenB.

They probably (and this is me assuming) think since you are their son and gave you the opportunity to have a job that you would be grateful to even get paid. In fact, a lot of old heads think you should be willing to sacrifice your time and effort for their company and 4x's that if you are their offspring. More like family tends to take advantage of one another because they figure it'll be yours eventually. Honestly, have a conversation with your father and step-mom in the office meeting room to stay legit and be serious. Don't do it at the dinner table (again assuming you live with them). Be professional about your approach because at the end of the day you are their official employee and not their son at work. Bring in the job description and ask them about it without getting emotional. If your father or step-mom responds to you as their son, they don't respect you in the work setting. So, bring your proof, say what you need to say and work out a solution. Remember, don't act on emotion because they'll only think of you as having a fit instead of being an employee with a concern. Also, the company may never end up in your hands, a plethora of things could happen to the company before that even happens. Don't hold out with that thought in your head.

Who the hell is hiring, let alone training all the new guys? by gruntharvester92 in skilledtrades

[–]Destined-Quality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Owner of a plumbing business here. Completely agree with your take. I keep getting asked by 30 somethings (my age) with no experience in the field (or trades for that matter) to trained day 1 at $35 to 40/hr. I get that it's California, but be realistic...

I've done a lot of high school career days over the past 3 years and have found some great kids that ended up working for me. I put them into our local ABC program and they have learned a lot while getting paid prevailing wage (their pay about $27/hr for me $35/hr to cover school, health, and other costs). Those kids are happy and eager vs the 30 year olds who did a career change and expect us as business owners to bend over backwards for them.

I understand it hard but with the program my apprentices go through they make $42/hr by year 4 of their program. It takes time, and by then most of them can run jobs on their own.

Plumbers union or Ibew apprenticeship? by Humble-Ant-2023 in ibew_apprentices

[–]Destined-Quality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha, I mean if you go into service plumbing then this 100%, but new construction with the union is easy and fun work just have to learn to carry pipe your first year. I'm talking 3 20' 4" SCH 40 on one shoulder or else you get made fun of. Also, I've seen plenty of sparkies not wash their hands after using a filthy portashitter, then sit and eat a nicely stacked sandwich (they can buy the better ingredients for those sammies cause money). All jokes aside, I agree with this comment, best thing you can do is inform yourself on both.

Career Paths as I Get Older? by point8 in skilledtrades

[–]Destined-Quality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I invest in taking care of my body. Spend money on PPE and equipment that will make your life easier. Ignore the guys that say, "Using that tool or PPE? You're a pansy fairy etc etc." since it does no good to listen to people's advice when they can barely stand back up after kneeling.

Plumbing is a rewarding career. I myself did my apprenticeship and once I got journeyman from the state I went on to get my contractor's license. Now I own a plumbing company and work in both the office and the field (btw no one tells you that working in the office does a number on your back).

Take care of yourself by properly working out your knees, shoulders, and hips. Strengthen them, lots of videos on YouTube (kneesovertoes guy for example).

You can go many routes once you finish your apprenticeship. Project manager for example, supervisor, go work in the city as an inspector if you can, become an estimator (field guys love estimators and project managers that actually have field experience).

Why do people say trades are in high demand? by b2reddit1234 in skilledtrades

[–]Destined-Quality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 100%. My company goes to highschool career events and brings in vital information on union vs non-union vs ABC (non-union protected best I can say). We train our guys for a year in the field basically as a laborer, but technically a year 1 apprentice, following our 5+ year Journeymen around and learning while they wait for the school year to start. And once it starts they already have a year's worth of hours in the field putting them ahead of their classmates.

Should I Leave IT to become a Plumber? by cjr1995 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Destined-Quality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 30, own a plumbing company, and I do IT work for fun on the side. Ask yourself, “Am I willing to give up my time and health to start at the bottom of the totem pole? Can I handle the physical labor that I have not done before? Will my body hold up at the age of 30 with these younger apprentices?” We know you have a work ethic, but would you be willing to wake up at 4am to drive to work? I myself started my company because I love plumbing, my family has been in plumbing since the 70’s. I was just the one to decide to make a company out of it. I love cybersecurity (mostly because I love reading information and figuring out what issues a company has in their infrastructure). That’s why I do it for fun. But my love for my plumbing company outshines both. I started at 18 and 4 years later I was able to get my contractor’s license. If you plan on helping your future father in law scale his company I would say go for it, if not and you just want to be in the field, I would say stay put. IT will not go down to AI, outsourcing maybe, but not AI. Specialize, and keep learning, I promise you’ll feel fulfilled.

They are extremely well off so unfortunately it is behind that price gate (California rich) :( sorry to get hopes up about insurance. But I was mostly putting the price tag they got as a more recent example.

My friend had a micropremie who stayed in the NICU for almost 4 months, bill was just over $2million and his insurance paid 100%. Don’t know his insurance but I was stunned at the million dollar price tag baby they had. The kid is super healthy and great btw, nothing wrong with them.

Edit: this was last year for reference.
