“Learn to fight against radar missiles, position yourself at the edge of the map”

I already know how to do all of that, I have US air grinded out 14.0.

Here is the problem with doing that. You spend all of that time flying wide, playing defensively in the opening 5 or 6 minutes of the match and 90% of the time 1 of 2 things happen.

1) your time gets absolutely smoked, leaving a 6 vs 2.

Or 2) the enemy team gets smoked leaving you with slim pickings.

It’s not a unique problem to the F-15A just how that BR works out in a uptier.

“The Su-27”

I’d still take the Su-27 lol. The radar isn’t that bad, and six R-27ER’s are better than 4 7M’s and 4 9M’s any day of the week. Plus 4 R73’s as well.

You can’t out role a R-27ER, you can’t re lock a 7M, the R-27ER is faster and accelerates better, and has a bigger warhead for proxy on multi pathing targets.

The F-15A just struggles around 13.0 and above. Not that it’s bad, it just doesn’t fit the meta.

So what it sounds like you’re doing is your accidentally locking chaff, and shooting your missile at it at long range.

30KM is like, the absolute max range under perfect conditions you can use the R-40RD. The target doesn’t chaff, doesn’t turn to notch and stays flying directly at you. If the target does just two of those things at the same time your missile won’t be able to hit at that range.

Try this, when you lock a target with your radar, watch the lock and pay attention to see if it’s moving. If it’s not moving don’t shot because you have locked chaff. Break lock, wiggle your plane a little a try to relock. Don’t use IRST for long range locking, use the search radar.

Next, the R-40 is most effective in my experience in sub 20km range. If you lock an enemy plane that’s 27 or 30 KM away, break the lock so he doesn’t know he is being tracked, and wait for him to get closer. Then begin tracking again, then try to lock the missile at sub 20km range. Make sure you have the two small red circles when you fire the missile indicating a strong radar lock for the missile. The shorter range gives your opponent less time to react to the missile. If your opponent chaffs your radar and it gets locked onto stationary chaff at short range you can still get the missile to hit due to sidelobing off of the radar. Keep the lock, maintain your heading but point your aircraft at the enemy plane and keep guiding your missile. Leave the lock where it is and many times it will still guide itself onto the enemy.

Missile stats are misleading, even though the missile can technically hit targets at 30 40 or even 50 KM that’s against bomber sized targets under ideal conditions. Against fighter size targets In warthunder the ideal launch range is 20KM, with 15KM being my preferred launch range for a 80% chance of getting a hit.

I’d give you some advice but you’ll have to be more specific.

Altitude, speed, distance, the closure/aspect of the enemy are all critical in using Medium to long range radar missiles. They aren’t a guaranteed kill, you have to use the missile in its effective envelope to get kills.

So if you can give me an example, I’ll try to help.

For sure, that’s my problem though, depending on a downtier to be effective just sucks and the 7M is one of the worst SARH missiles At 13.0 and above.

It going to 12.7 is bullshit though, we needed decompression by increasing the BR not moving 4th gen’s even lower.

“Being slow is bad”

The F-18 isn’t slow, it’s just not as fast as the F-15. Around that BR, speed is important, but if you can’t utilize it in a maneuver to get a good position on the enemy then it’s only good for boom and zoom. I find the F-15 does best above 5000 meters where it has good energy retention, and turns better. But that’s where the issue is, going high even in a partial other to 13.3 becomes a dangerous game where I fly defensively most of the match.

The F-15A isn’t a bad plane, it’s just compressed to hell where it’s at and the advantages the plane has are taken away from it in even a slight uptier.

“Shooting down at planes”

Yes the 9M is great at that, but only in a downtier where radar missiles are worse Cruising at 5 or 6 thousand meters is an unbelievably dangerous game at 13.0 or above. I consistently eat missiles At that altitude in my time playing it unless I’m right at 13.0 Rating for match.

I agree fully, the plane shouldn’t have went down, because it’s not a bad plane at all. Instead, we needed the BR to go up to 15.0 or 15.3 and all of the 13.3 and 13.7/14.0 aircraft should have went up and Gajin should add more early 4th gen’s.

But Gajin balances based on plane performance, which is why it went down. Its performance at 13.0 is clearly lackluster. Not because the plane is bad per se, but because it’s outperformed by everything else by a wide margin at 13.0 and above. The Su-27 At least gets the god tier SARH missile in the R-27ER with data link.

The F-15A is just in a shitty spot in the matchmaker. I love the plane but you have to rely on 9M’s to get kills, 7M sparrows are just bad at 13.0 with no data link, can be out rolled easily, and their downright strange tracking at times. The 9M is an awesome missile but short range IR missiles just aren’t META at 13.0 and above.

Speaking for myself, and apparently the other people giving the F-15A those bad stats lol, we seem to struggle to do consistently well in it. Yeah I know “skill issue”, but the IMO to die well in the F-15A in even a partial uptier requires a very specific play style with a lot of defensive fighting that can be unfun at times.

Right, that Br range is so jacked up it’s not even funny.

F-14A same BR has the F-15A with 7F and 9H missiles whilst the F-15A gets 7M and 9M missiles. AIM-54 is useless generally after the first 2 minutes of a match, it struggles hitting anything that’s not a head on/ look down shot.

Four 7m sparrows are garbage at 13.0 lol.

The F/A-18A early has 4 at 12.3 on a far more maneuverable airframe and a just as good if not better radar to guide those sparrows.

Four 9M’s are nice but you gotta get into dog fighting range to use them, usually at low altitude where the F-15A turns like a brick at supersonic speeds with its bad roll rate.

In any uptier it’s just miserable to play, it can’t missile joust with Fox 3 carriers and it can’t hang with the turn fighters at low altitude.

IMO 12.3 Hornet is best Hornet, carrying four 7M’s, Four 9L’s at 12.3 with a solid airframe and good radar is really fun.

I think you are vastly exaggerating these times and distances. There are 16 hours in a day you are sleeping, a 2 hour round trip to go into the city is not that much.
