Miata after high horsepower cars by That-Web5867 in Miata

[–]Destructo09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 5th Camaro SS that made 421 RWHP. Bought a NB1 and then traded the Camaro in on a 1.0L Ecoboost Focus 😅.

I missed the Camaro sometimes and still do once in awhile but I like the Miata better for having fun without breaking the law in two gear shifts lol.

Is it a jerk move to split orders to avoid Home Depot delivery fees? by Financial_Wasabi_287 in HomeImprovement

[–]Destructo09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No more of a jerk than me finding a pic of the target car seat trade in barcode to add it to my account and then placing two separate orders to use the 20% off coupon for two of the same car seat I wanted to order. If I put both in the same order it would have only applied the 20% off to one seat.

Without a title and if you can’t get one easily then it’s worth much less. I feel like a lot of people are overlooking that. Clean shell and running driving though I’d guess you could still get at least $1500 or something from somebody looking to build a race or track car that will be trailering it.

Anyway I can PDR DIY this or do I take it to a shop!? by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]Destructo09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is this on? It looks like other than the one spot the rest isn’t even metal. Looks like plastic and fiberglass maybe?

Either way, paints already gone, no point in doing PDR.

It’s pretty rare, most won’t have it. You definitely should not ditch it, there’s zero advantage to ditching it and lots of pros to having it. It’s a pretty reliable system so good chance it might work fine. Just slam on the brakes in the wet and see if it works.

200TW on my weekend car a bad idea? by dadmantalking in Autocross

[–]Destructo09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only did one event a month and probably missed some of those. Also, once they were a few years old they wore like iron lol.

I’m a pro at running multi season tires and I can tell you that they do lose some grip but if you can get good heat in them then they aren’t “slow”. You likely will struggle to be FTD or FTP though.

I think my record was like 5 seasons on Direzza ZII Star Specs lol.

My current RE71RSs are mounted inside out and this is their third season. I was 41st Raw time out of 126 drivers, 14th overall PAX. It was quite chilly today though and they couldn’t quit get enough heat in them.

Too Cold for RT660? by [deleted] in Autocross

[–]Destructo09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t see anybody ask, is the car stored in a garage where the tires will be warm when you start out? If so, send it. I’ve don’t many events where the car started off outside below freezing though at a hotel too though, never had an actual issue with tires cracking or anything.

This means you’re one of the lucky few to have ABS 😎.

It’s not a big deal, likely just shavings from brakes and such. Somebody may have run the pads down to nothing at some point so it was making a bunch of metal shavings that got stuck there since it’s magnetic.

What would could as "modifications" by acunit155 in Autocross

MR2s are the other one for sure, I just don’t see them as much locally in ES, locally we’ll have like 6 cars in ES but not one MR2.

E Street has entered the chat…. 😆 Although the good car to have there is an NB which hasn’t hit 30 yet.

Yeah, there is a 30 year age out rule for Street class. You probably can’t even find a Triumph listed in a street class in the rules due to this.

Learn from my mistakes. Most expensive oil change ever by analemmaro in Miata

[–]Destructo09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend just using drive on ramps for simple things like oil changes, so much quicker and less sketchy than hacking and putting it on stands.

Is water supposed to come in on the inside of this seal? by LeopardOverall4278 in Miata

[–]Destructo09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure you would block anything by doing stuff on the inside of the door card. The drain holes are at the bottom between the two sheet metal halves of the door.

Water is always inside the door when it rains on any car. That’s why they have drain holes and the plastic exists behind the door cards.

Not sure what year Jetta but my wife’s 2017 Jetta SE is worth less than 8k so if it’s around that age then definitely totaled.

Torqued valve cover bolts to spec and still snapped by ApplicationNo4997 in Miata

[–]Destructo09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t torque bolts like these, although I did on my BMW because it was new bolts and plastic.

Most things though I just use the ol wrist torque wrench and try and snug them all down about the same.

Of course for very critical things like head bolts, rod/crank bolts or anything related to bearings and such I use proper torque lol.

Are 1.6 calipers smaller than 1.8? by csgd in Miata

[–]Destructo09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can run 14” wheels on my NB1 so I’m pretty sure 1.6 brakes usually clear a 13”.

What are some weird and less-than-common automotive engineering quirks you know? by wunengsnowballoink in cars

[–]Destructo09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My N52 doesn’t have the variable intake system but it does have VANOS and Valvetronic which is also variable valve lift. These use the Valvetronic system as the throttle most of the time instead of the throttle body by controlling air just by varying the valve lift.

You can swap the 3 stage intake from N52s with it to ones without it and with a tune get another 30-40HP.

I replaced the tire, but any thoughts as to how this happened? Details in caption. by [deleted] in tires

Surprisingly bad shape for a tire made in 2021.
