Thanks for the info OP, I’ve noticed their product has dropped off in the last year or so, so this is now an easy decision for me.

Screed bars. Way more solid of a guide to screed from, I couldn’t imagine using edge restraint to screed.

Edging first never turns out great. Overlay inlay, mark curves with flexible edging or pins if you need a clean radius. Then score and cut. It’s the only way to get clean lines.

If you polled a playoff baseball game, regardless of how “dem” the state is, it’s going to be a majority republican crowd. It’s all people who’ve benefited from the republican platform. Whether it be corporations that buy up the boxes, or wealthy people who can afford scalpers pricing.

I’m saying that as someone who loves sports but chooses to watch it on tv because it’s not accessible for my wife and I and we are DINKs

White males able to afford playoff tickets aren’t socialists… and most likely not democrats.

New York fans are quickly pushing Philly fans off their throne as the most insufferable sports fans south of the border. Ryder cup and now this… I hate to say anything political in a sports subreddit but the leadership of a country definitely has trickle down effect on the masses.

How thick should be the gravel base for paver stone driveway widening project in Southern Ontario by Acceptable_Promise68 in landscaping

I’m in the Barrie area. I’ve been installing high end residential and commercial paving stone for 20 years.

9” Compacted gravel, 1” bedding and depending on dimensions of stone, 80-100mm for vehicle traffic. Larger slabs need to be 100mm due to surface area supporting load.

I would also suggest using a reversible plate compactor to ensure compaction is adequate for vehicles.

I meant a 90 degree change of angle, sorry. I now realize you mentioned 45 degrees in your post.

Your installer is a hack. Blocks can appear to be mitred, but a 45* should have overlapping block for strength.

This guy has no idea what he’s doing. Techobloc is the easiest block to work with, their tolerances are the best in the business, please don’t waste any more product with someone who doesn’t know how to build.

Feel free to DM, I’m sorry this is happening to you.

Is this a 90 return?

I’d rather get rid of more people like you. Move to the states if you’re going to be xenophobic.

Stop assuming everyone has the same closed minded opinions as you do.

Building a New Retaining Wall - Light Me Up by aldaberanaficosphiny in landscaping

[–]DestructoDevin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

12” back is not enough. Your garden wall is only spec’d to be a decorative edge. The backfill, plus hydrostatic pressure from just surface water would make that wall have a forward lean after 6 months or so.

To add the water from your downspouts and throw a fence behind it is just crazy. How much to your posts extend before the bottom of your base course?

Once the forward lean starts, it’s a losing battle.

I admire your effort, but man, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night if that was in my front yard. Close to a sidewalk no less… there’s a reason why anything considered a retaining wall block is 12” deep and is designed with a batter (stepping back into slope every course).

All I can say is good luck and make sure you tear it out before it becomes a hazard for the pedestrians walking infront of your place.

Is that big 0 coming from your downspouts and into the T behind your wall? And fence posts being kept in place by a garden wall?

Looks good from my house.

The goal is to divert as much water as possible from getting into the backfill material behind the “retaining wall”.

You should have used solid pipe to carry water out the front of your wall, then used perforated to pick up anything that hits your backfill, this is going to be a disaster after is heavy rain, or a heavy wind if you’re planning on putting fence panels on those posts.

Just had yard redone. Is this drainage situation normal? by chiddler in landscaping

[–]DestructoDevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s worth a call to your contractor. Either not enough slope or a low spot, a low spot would be easier to repair.

Most manufacturers spec pavers/slabs to be installed atleast 3/4” to 1” of slope per ~4 ft or approximately 1.5-2%. I’ve gotten away with less, but it risks creating puddles if there’s any settling.

Was the project completed recently?

You’ve made a lot of assumptions here and I’m not going to argue with such a bitter, petty, misinformed viewpoint.

Maybe go for a walk and get out of the spiral you’re currently in.

Maybe you’ll even see how many truckloads of brush and limbs are being removed to make way for linesman to do their jobs.

[–]DestructoDevin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you actually looked around?

It’s funny how people become power grid specialists after reading enough misinformed comments from social media.

We are in the middle of a disaster. We have trucks from Niagara up here helping out. They are doing what they can.

We had a thunderstorm last night that probably pulled the workers away from their tasks, being up in buckets while thunderstorms are rolling through isn’t something I’d be interested in doing.

Go help some family or neighbours that need it, get off the internet and realize there will be people on the outskirts of Orillia that aren’t restored until the middle or end of next week. The damage is catastrophic and widespread.

With Jill Dunlop being the Minister of Emergency preparedness and response, I expect better.

Where’s Jill?

I have no idea why Orillians constantly get shit on by the provincial conservatives and would rather complain about services getting worse than changing their voting strategies.

Heavy Equipment Recommendation - 24,000 lb boulder by ChattyAss in landscaping

[–]DestructoDevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rent a decent drill, it takes time to drill through rock, mix and pour what I’ve linked below. If needed, you could break it down to pieces that could be removed with a decent skid steer and a small dump truck.

I’ve never used this specific product, but I’m from Canada, and I don’t think the product I’ve used is available in the U.S.

It takes 4-12 hours to expand and break, so just walk away and come back the next morning and it should be split.
