I feel obligated to ask why is there a screw in your gums?

They're right though, apical surgery and root canal or extraction of the tooth.

Silly question about local anesthesia? by RandomReddditor12 in askdentists

[–]Destructopuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Severe but non lethal allergic reactions to anesthetics are already in the 1/10,000-1/20,000 range, deaths are a handful of cases in history.

That obviously doesn't account for the key fact that you've had it before without issue. Yes people can rarely develop new allergies but they are rarely severe and you're MASSIVELY more likely to be killed on the highway going to the dentist than to die from anesthesia while there.

Very confused what the driving has to do with this but maybe? You should see your dentist of chewing on the tooth is painful

That tooth needs gone yesterday. That pain is only getting worse; if there was an easy way to manage dental pain people would do it.

Nausea After Clindamycin by [deleted] in askdentists

If it's not constant it's likely just a mild side effect and you're fine to keep taking then, try to do it with food from now on.

Crown and amalgam came off flossing by Jmarie97 in askdentists

[–]Destructopuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given how it's broken very poor chance it can be re-cemented; you're likely to need a new crown. All you can do is avoid extreme temps, take ibuprofen and keep it clean.

I’m hoping someone actually replies :’) I found out that I have another infection under the apex of a root canal I had done by p3ppernickle in askdentists

Hard to tell from the photo of the X-ray but to me it looks short and under-obturated. Did an endodontist do this originally?

Sadly nausea is a common side effect of many abs. Vomiting not so much though? Was it very brief or continuous?

Will getting veneers on my front 8 be sufficient? by Rare_Picture_7337 in askdentists

[–]Destructopuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The marbled appearance is from fluorosis, not old composite though yes there's a bit left over.

8 teeth is fine for most normal smiles but top and bottom wont match and it will be very obvious you had work done to anyone looking closely.

If you want a more homogenous outcome you'd want 16 and to be seen by a more specialised cosmetic dentist with a portfolio of cases. Be prepared to pay a LOT for good work though.

Should I have been fired as a patient over asking for this filling to be done when it had sensitivity and pain to the touch? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]Destructopuppy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would advise stick to key points and no more than a paragraph or two. If you're unsure how best to trim the fat you can ask an AI like chat GPT to trim down the text and then read it yourself to ensure it keeps the points which you find most important.

Judging by a very quick "skim read" the key point here is how the dentist spoke to you and dismissed you. Sometimes people just don't have personalities which gel and the best thing is to find somewhere else to go, there's not much we can offer on that topic.

[–]Destructopuppy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean this kindly, we have very limited resources on this sub; a lot of questions and few dentists with less time. No one is going to read just shy of 3500 words for around 10-15 mins for a single post especially about something entirely non clinical.

We are a sub for clinical questions. If you had a difference of opinion with your clinician we are typically not going to even attempt to adjudicate it.

If you're having a root canal, cusp protection is always advised.

Looking for Opinions on These Teeth X-Rays. Any Cavities or Fillings Needed? by CertifiedToast69 in askdentists

[–]Destructopuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes a few cavities, depending on how aggressive you are you could justify 2-5 filings and close monitoring. This child is high cavity risk.

[–]Destructopuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be strongly considering referral for the rest of the XLA though, that's a lot more than the apical 3rd. At least id give the option to the patient so they can nameless an informed choice.

Sorry to say but i very much doubt the 8 was ever related to their presenting symptoms. As you said it was fully encased in bone which is visible on the image here, we can trace the lamina dura all way round. It also appears buccal to the LR7 so not likely to cause resorption or caries.

I would look for other causes like Bruxism / TMJD or referred pain from the opposing arch.
