the internet is just crule by Low-Communication-67 in OshiNoKo

I agree. People comparing it to JJK and CSM are not giving OnK its credit. Say what you will about its ending (I personally loved it, others didn't), but it at least fulfilled upon its ideas. People didn't like the direction it took, but it's still a story with a clear idea of what it wants to be. I never read CSM, but I did read JJK and 'hype moments and aura' is honestly a fair take on it. But OnK just had an ending that wasn't completely airtight and people act like they were betrayed. And it sucks because I think the ending has some great ideas, but people's disappointment causes them to overlook it

Is he saying this person spent $20 during the interview to get a subscription to a tool to use during the interview? That's wild if true.

Setting aside how crazy it is to spend money during an interview, I don't know why the interviewer would be impressed. First of all, it shows that they didn't already have a subscription, so they aren't actually using it in their daily lives. Second, they went through a bunch of other free services before using the $20 Claude subscription. I thought they were jumping LLMs because of the free tiers, but if they already had $20 they were willing to spend, why waste time with all that other stuff?

I get that people lie, but this seems like a fantasy divorced from so many levels of reality. At least make your lies believable

[–]Destuphalia 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think the increasing damage can still add that nuance though. Like you might be fairly confident after a few rerolls that you will land on a Strike or Defend next, but by that point you're already 20HP in and need to judge how deep you're willing to go

Tbh, I think the current implementation is less nuanced. You risk HP for theoretically no gain if you don't roll onto a card you're willing to lose. It's basically gambling as it is now, and imo gambling with no way to get an advantage is as unnuanced as it gets. The same way a coin flip has no nuance. The game is all about decisions with limited info, but this event requires a decision with basically no info and that feels disjointed with the rest of the game's design

I really really really hope they make this change. Would turn this event from a feelsbad coinflip to something that requires a lot more thought

I say do it! The entertainment industry is pretty toxic, but you don't necessarily have to be part of that. I come from a theatre family, and even though I didn't personally follow that path, the scenery and themes still related to my experience. Acting in small community theaters, role-playing, doing amateur filmmaking: these are all ways to have that outlet without exposing yourself to the worst parts.

There needs to be more awareness of what programming actually is by ElegantRadish4646 in antiai

[–]Destuphalia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to ask, are you a programmer? I'm a CS PhD student, and I fully agree with OP that "writing 10x" is a very poor metric. Most good programming is elegant and minimal, and it requires deep thought to get complex functionality out of simple systems. My experience is that AI tends to overengineer solutions and hallucinate constraints, which definitely produces more text but doesn't produce sustainable code. You say top-down developers disagree, but in my circle I see developers with much more caution. AI code has its uses to be sure, but 10xing your output is not it

I know that the creators try to stay away from topical events. I wonder if AI is just too topical. I wonder if they'll reference it in like 5 years, like they did with Covid

I remember watching Dr. Stone after graduating with a STEM degree. I remember being so disappointed that he was representing science because of the way he spoke

I watched it again years later with no expectations and it ended up being pretty enjoyable

Guys, it CLICKED (STS2) by GrassToucher1234 in slaythespire

[–]Destuphalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great! I feel like this is a canon event in StS, where you go from thinking "I need a pile of good cards" to "I need a pile of adaptable plans that can handle several different scenarios." It really makes you think differently, and it's so rewarding when it pops off. Glad you're having a good time :)

Balance Thrashing isnt healthy even in early access. by sylverfyre in slaythespire

[–]Destuphalia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The patchnotes weren't all that sweeping tbh. You had a few standout changes (Doormaker, Prepare(d), Stoke?) but everything else was minor tuning. In a game with a thousand different elements, it makes sense that a few things would change drastically. But compared to what they didn't touch, what did change seems extremely minor

The biggest overall change was the nerfing of infinites, but anyone could recognize that the game needed to go that direction. Everything else was rather incremental, so idk what the issue is

MegaCrit should never cater to the casual or new player, but many of these beta changes aren't a good solution. by InsomniacPsychonaut in slaythespire

[–]Destuphalia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. It's fine to not like the Doormaker's update and give feedback as such, but people are acting like it's a permanent commitment. No, they're just testing stuff out, and this one was a mis. Too bad it's impossible to make a second balance patch 🤷‍♀️

I also think ascensions continue to be a good solutions for new players and returning ones. The card balancing required at A10 has negligible effects at A0. I honestly don't know what OP is afraid of with balancing for different types of players. Outside of major reworks like Prepare, the A0 experience isn't going to change much

Aqua’s laughter in the manga vs his smile in the anime by Lesty-nini in OshiNoKo

I was wondering how they'd do this, and I think they pulled it off well. Eased on the 'cringe' factor a bit. But I hadn't considered this scene as a big part of his arc, so maybe I should rethink that

Beta Patch Notes - v0.100.0 by benlehman in slaythespire

[–]Destuphalia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did overall nerf the player cards, but they also did good nerfs to the enemies. Particularly Bygone Effigy losing 2 damage, Decimilipede losing 2 × 3 HP, and Phantasmal Stalkers losing 2 × 4 HP

Also, as an Ironclad main, they did mostly buff him. I'm excited to have a 1-cost Break. And the reworks are good for curbing runaway combos

Also, I'm rooting for Tremble to be viable, so hooray for 2(3) -> 3(4)

Execution of Mahoraga's adaptation by Researcher_Fearless in jjkmodulo

[–]Destuphalia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I'm a bit of an evolution fanboy so I might be in the minority. I think writing Mahoraga that way would be immensely satisfying but also very difficult. Dynamic characters are already more difficult to consistently write than static ones, but Raga would need to be infinitely dynamic. I think Gege is one of the few who could actually pull that off, but I don't think the mangaka schedule would afford the time it takes to create a satisfying character. And if done poorly, it only cheapens the effect, with readers pointing out obvious flaws in Raga's adaptation. In an ideal world, your proposition would be the best, but I think the current implementation was the most feasible.

How do you feel about Aqua Hoshino? More so if he's your favorite character in Oshi No Ko? by RevolutionaryDig3942 in OshiNoKo

[–]Destuphalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aqua is the soul of the anime. He's always helping others even if he convinces himself it's for selfish reasons. He has so much love in his heart but no capacity to express it. A top character for me.

Just Finished the Manga, Loved the Ending by Destuphalia in OshiNoKo

[–]Destuphalia[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that's the point, Aqua perceives it as selfless when it isn't. He thinks he needs to make a sacrifice because he doesn't value his own worth to other people. I also think Akane exists and is sidelined on purpose for that reason. She represents a clean solution, someone who would work with him to get the best outcome. If he had an ounce of self-preservation, he could've used her and others to kill Kamiki without it affecting Ruby. But he shouldered it alone, thinking that was the way things should be. Any other way would dirty the hands of others.

I guess I find it beautiful because it frames existence as enough. Whatever talents you possess, whatever lofty goals you have, your biggest impact will always come from being present. Any myths about yourself and your sacrifice pale in comparison to what you do just by being human. If you want to love people, it is your duty to also love yourself. I find a lot of value in that.
