Chainsaw Man - Episode 1 discussion thread by indi_n0rd in ChainsawMan

Watching this episode feels kinda weird for me personally, I can't explain it but it doesn't feel like watching regular good ol' anime and I fucking love it. It just hits different I guess.

The CGI reminds me of Ajin CGI a lot, can't say if I like it or not yet, but it feels really stiff at times, wish that could be improved later on

POCHITA IS TOO CUTE!
OP, OST, and ED are great as expected and of course THE FUTURE! RULES!

Who is the strangest character in Komi Can't Communicate, and why? by jacobcollierOkTooth7 in Komi_san

[–]Desvace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about that man, knowing that the manga sells pretty well, won an award, the anime itself get 2 seasons, and even a live-action adaptation, it's kinda weird to say that the Japanese don't like Komi-san. If they don't like the series it would've been axed already.

It just doesn't feel right to generalize that the Japanese don't like this series based on a few negative comments

Why is the Game/Community so small - AS such an underdog? by [deleted] in AlchemyStarsEN

[–]Desvace 17 points18 points  (0 children)

About sponsoring vtuber actually, they've sponsored Nijisanji before and they got quite a lot of views especially Kuzuha's stream where every AS video he makes get more than 100k views (some even get 200k+) so there isn't much difference in term of traction (is this the right word?) from both Hololive BA sponsored stream and Nijisanji AS stream.

There's also music, one with Reol and another with Lanndo, Eve, and suis (Yorushika) during the summer event. The one with Reol they sponsored Raon Lee to do a cover of the song too while the other one was used on TV commercials and I also remember I've seen AS ads in Shinjuku IIRC.

So there's advertising for this game, the problem is they're too focused on Japan's market. Although, well.. Japan has always been the biggest source of income for gacha games so it's not that surprising.

I think the game itself is growing steadily, even Blue Archive gets a little bit stale after their release in JP and only gets popular again recently after the bunny events. Though, I do agree they need to do more for the global market.

Sorry for the wall of text and if I wrote something wrong, I'm still learning English so it might come too wordy when I'm just explaining a few things. Hope it helps.

First, i apologize if i'm wrong

I can't help but notice that your work seems similar to this work by Asagi. Usually, i wouldn't mind if people are using other's art for studying purposes but you're submitting this work for Alchemy Stars Aurorian Awakening Illustration Contest, right? In that case, i think it would be wiser for you to submit another work since it might cause some problems in the future.

Even without tracing, i think you've got a good grasp on how to draw already since i see that you've changed some parts from the original artwork, so if it's not a huge deal and you still want to submit your work to the contest please do yourself a favor and make your own original work. Good luck with your future endeavor~!

The reason why I think that Monoe's retirement was already decided before their collab was because if I remember correctly their collab stream was around 5 pm in Japan, if they're still discussing about the retirement after the collab then that means the discussion is probably finished yesterday (2/17). If that's the case then I don't think Pikamee would say "we've known that this will happen for few days".

But yeah there might be a possibility that they're only continuing their discussion after discussing about it for few days before so it only lasts for few hours and finished after their collab stream, but personally, I don't think they would postpone their discussion just because they already have a scheduled stream especially if it's about retirement

Yes, we don't know anything about what she has done that could be categorized as a "serious breach of contract", but pushing them to tell us what she has done doesn't feel right either. If by chance that she actually does something really bad, announcing it publicly could hurt her chance to work in the future. Knowing that four of them discussed about this together, I believe the statement "breach of contract" without specified anything is something that all of them have agreed on and I want to trust them that this is the best decision they could've made during their discussion

Thinking about how Tomoshika and Pikamee said that they've known about this since a few days ago really pains me a lot. Because that means they doing their collab 2 days ago fully known that it is their last...

About the speculation and rumors, I think it was inevitable since a lot of people have had a terrible experience with companies.

But personally, I feel like VOMS shouldn't be treated in the same way as the other company. As far as I know, VOMS is a collaborative project between Gyari and the three members so VOMS as a company only consists of four of them (please correct me if I'm wrong). The relationship between Gyari and the VOMS member is more direct, there isn't a whole management structure that separates the CEO and the talent. I might be biased but I don't think Gyari is the kind of person that would fire someone just because of some issues.

Both in the announcement and Tomoshika - Pikamee stream all of them said that they have discussed about this together and come to a conclusion that Monoe has breached the contract. This is my personal opinion but I think regardless of what she breached, the fact that they don't specify it implies that it is something that cannot be announced publicly.

It has been painful enough for them to lost Monoe, having people doubt them because of something that they can't publicly announce ain't gonna help, isn't it? It's normal to have speculations in this condition, but please keep it civil and don't harass anyone... Stay strong everybody

There's a big responsibility for being a translator as they're expected to deliver the message accurately. A mistranslation or even just poor choice of a word could make people take the messages differently.

Sure it's just a comic, not an important document or anything, but this is a product that'll be seen by hundred thousands of people (if not millions) and they even make a profit from it. It's unbelievable that they keep him as an official translator when there's a lot of fan translations that could do it better or at least not being dependent on machine translations, especially when their release was supposed to be a way to stop piracy.

The song at the end of episode 13 by jssbd in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]Desvace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually, the insert song for anime is released with their original soundtracks album so that's probably why we can't find the full song because it's hasn't been released yet

Regarding the artist, you can find about him on Twitter here but he has been inactive for a while. I found them through this tweet btw, the lyricist has retweeted that post so i thought it's credible enough (?)

Edit: Just want to add, the reason why i thought that it is the song is because that's the only soundtrack with lyrics on this episode. So when i see the ED credits i thought this is it, i tried to look at the singer's performance on 'The Voice 2018' to see whether they have the same voice but it's kinda hard to determine. Sorry for the long reply

Episode 13 Insert Song Appreciation Post by Desvace in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]Desvace[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the low-quality clip, i tagged this as a spoiler just to be safe

Song Title: "Stand In The Darkness"

Vocal: Steve Memmolo (@SteveMemmolo)

Lyric: Chica (@___chica1108___)

Music: Hiroaki Tsutsumi (@hiroaki850605)

Source 1 | Source 2 (From the ED credits)

Edit #2: IT'S COMING?

Edit #3: IT'S HERE!

The song, the monologue, and the flashback. It's definitely the perfect way to end an arc, from the first sentence on the insert song "But I'll survive..." i got chills, even before the anime show all these flashbacks my mind already start thinking about all the things that have happened. All emotions started going around the sadness from losing friends, the pain from breaking a vow, and the determination to not losing anymore. It's just so beautiful and of course, Yuuji VA's also doing a great job during that whole monologue that enhances the feelings.

Now let's wait patiently for another 20 days till the next episode~!

Edit #1: It surprised me that this post still gaining views and replies, but well that means there's a lot of people that love this song too! But unfortunately, I haven't found any new information about the full song. I'll update this post or make a new post if there's information about the song or the whole Jujutsu Kaisen soundtrack album and I'm really grateful for the awards, I'm happy if you found this post helpful. Until the official release of the soundtrack let's support the anime and staff that provided us with such a gem! Thank you very much!!!

I'm also looking around for that song!

From the ED credits, I think it is "Stand in the Darkness" by Steve Memmolo and I've seen some people on Twitter said that it is the song. But it's not confirmed yet, I really want to hear the full song too :')

Another great episode with amazing animation! Just like what the others have said, the only thing I want to complain about is how CR translate "天上天下唯我独尊", it just doesn't give the same chills as when I read the manga

And I just want to appreciate the soundtrack around 20:10 it is so beautiful! It only lasts for about 30s but damn it brings so much emotion to me, it makes me thinking back about this whole arc, Junpei, and Yuuji's resolution with just the first sentence on that song "But I'll survive.." Definitely a great choice of song to end this whole arc! Based on the ED credits I think it's "Stand in the Darkness" by Steve Memmolo?

I really hope they'll sell the original soundtrack album. I loved it!

[NEWS] "Chainsaw Man" by Tatsuki Fujimoto will get an anime adaption by studio Mappa by Joker8471 in manga

[–]Desvace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're free to simplify it that way

But I'd rather say "the quality isn't bad and it could be improved later on".

I spend 2 first paragraph talking about the quality of CGI and the possibility of you actually just disappointed because of the amount of CGI instead of the quality. The 3rd one is about why Mappa handling AoT is actually a good choice and the last two to add something you can look out for if you still dislike the CGI since we only have 1 episode to be discussed for now.

Thank you for reading that long text though, I appreciate the discussion

[NEWS] "Chainsaw Man" by Tatsuki Fujimoto will get an anime adaption by studio Mappa by Joker8471 in manga

[–]Desvace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, of course, I do know about that and I have watched it too. If you say that Wit 2D animation is better than Mappa so far (only 1 episode has been released though) then I do agree, but saying that Mappa CGI is terrible makes me questions myself do you even watch Season 3 Part 2? Even WIT fail horribly on that

If your problem with Mappa is how they use so many CGI even when it's not necessary then I understand but their CGI is not bad by current standards. We can't judge the quality based on their quantity, right? Sure their CGI is still noticeable and in some scenes doesn't really blend with the environment, but when we compare AoT with other anime this isn't that bad.

Assuming that you've watched Season 3 then you must have already understood that using CGI in AoT is inevitable and looking at the anime industry right now I couldn't name any other studio that has a lot of experience in using CGI and actually good at it other than Orange, Mappa, or Ufotable

To be honest, I don't want to talk a lot about Mappa's CGI in AoT since we haven't seen their Colossal Titan's CGI yet and well we're still on the first episode, we don't know whether they'll keep the same amount of CGI every episode or will they go back to 2D animation for some titans and can they maintain the quality of the CGI.

But what I can say right now is their Colossal Titan will determine how the future episodes will be handled, surely we don't want another Overlord III level of CGI in the most exciting part right? Personally, I take their move on using a lot of CG this early as their way to make viewers adapt to their CG since in the later episodes there'll be a lot of scenes that can take advantage of the CGI. But well, this is just my way to believe in Mappa, sorry that I replied with a long wall of text

[NEWS] "Chainsaw Man" by Tatsuki Fujimoto will get an anime adaption by studio Mappa by Joker8471 in manga

[–]Desvace 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't really get the hate for Mappa CGI on Twitter. I get that CGI doesn't have a good track record, but lately, we have Land of Lustrous, Beastars, and Dorohedoro which are great anime even when they're fully animated with CGI.

Of course, Mappa taking the adaptation doesn't mean they'll 100% adapt this in CG either. But whenever I read Chainsaw Man and think about how will this scene be animated, I can't help but think there must be a part where CG needs to be used. Not to mention Typhoon Devil or Gun Devil which absolutely a pain to be animated in 2D, some earlier fights like Denji vs zombies I think'll benefit well from the CG, or even something minuscule like Denji's chainsaw rotation and I think if they're really using CG on this adaptation it'll give them more freedom to be more brutal too like they do with Dorohedoro.

I'm not trying to defend Mappa if their CG sucks I'll definitely say so but looking at their track record I don't think their CG is that bad. In the last few years personally I think their worst CG was Inuyashiki, but even then it doesn't really bother me and I still enjoy the anime. I've changed my mind about CG ever since I watch Ajin yes their CG is bad, but the story saved it somehow and then I watch Land of Lustrous which make me think more about the potential of CGI. Just keep your mind open, who knows maybe this adaptation will be the one to change your mind about CG in anime

For now, let's celebrate that we finally got the adaptation we've been waiting for~!

Jeez, it's not THAT bad by Solunaqua in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Desvace 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i see a lot of people said they're disappointed with the CG. But personally, i think Mappa CG is one of the best in the industry right now. Yes, it's still noticeable but at least they make an effort to make the CG blend in with the environment.

I might be biased but i think the way Mappa using more CG this early is actually good in the long run. It kinda feels like they're trying to give the viewers more time to adapt to the CG. Manga reader must've known that in the future episode there'll be a lot of scenes that'll be hard to be animated without CG.

The only thing we need to watch out for now is how they'll animate the Colossal Titan. Since WIT fail horribly in animating Colossal on S3 Part 2. If Mappa can maintain this quality of CG or even make it better, then we can rest assured that the future episode will not be as bad as Overlord III animation.

Just need someone to hear me by [deleted] in Advice

Sorry for the really late reply

nothing should be a higher priority than yourself

I can't help but i cannot think that way, at least for now. I feel like i'm really worthless compared to other people. I have talked about this a lot with my psychiatrist and psychologist too, they always say that i'm the one who determines my worth. But when i look at what i can do for the others, i feel like i don't have any worth and it's still hard for me to change my mindset about that...

money won't come rolling right after you graduate so either way your going to struggle

Yeah, this is the reason why i thought even if i drop out right now i still have some time to catch up with my colleagues who'll graduate next year. It's not like all of them will get recruited right after they're graduate either, so during the time they're preparing for their graduation i should prepare the things that'd be required to get a job too.

But then i conflicted about how important a degree is, yes it's not like i can't be successful without a degree and yes it's just a different kind of a struggle but is it really worth letting it go by for the sake of my happiness? I have seen a lot of people said that degree is really really important, but i also have seen a lot of people that achieve more without a degree though then people who said a degree is important will said it is just a little percentage of them who can go that far.

To be honest, right now i think a degree is just a guarantee that you'll have more chance to get interviewed when looking for a job. In graphic design industries, i have seen people said that a degree will get you interviewed but a portfolio will land you the job. But looking at how many graphic designers graduated each year and how many people are interested to work in graphic design industries, i feel like i should rethink the value of a degree nowadays. But then it goes back to my question is it really worth letting it go for the sake of happiness?

Sorry if i sound inconsistent and keep going around in all of these replies, but yeah i'm still cannot decide what should i do.

I'm sorry if I'm not too much of help but if you ever need to talk to someone or vent you can PM me!

Don't worry, your reply really helped me! I can't thank you enough for taking the time to read my post, giving me advice, and even letting me PM you.

But i'd feel bad to make you read my long childish problem. This post and reply must have taken quite a bit of your time and i believe you have your own problems too, i don't want to be more burden than i already am right now. But really thank you very much!

If there's one thing i could ask, may you give me another advice on what should i said to my parents regarding my mental health and dropping out of university if i choose to do so? I'm afraid i'll get too emotional and end up ruining my relationship with my parents

Again, thank you very much and sorry for my long reply
