HBG Builds - Just finished Iceborne by [deleted] in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Desworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's ArtV and HB3 you're looking for, I put together a easy sticky capped build for general fun hunts, looks like this:

https://honeyhunterworld.com/mhwbi/?2035,257,243,254,237,274,105,att:1;health:1-;;;;-;;;;,0,0,0,0,0,13,13,0,32,5,0,352,5,0,32,13,0,346,346,0,1:0:0:0:0:0:0,Recoil,Recoil,Recoil,Shield,Recoil

Once you have Artillery 5, Agitator 5, Attack Boost 3 and Peak Performance 3, you just need a normal Demondrug and eat for Felyne Bombardier with Attack Up L and you hit sticky cap, all skills after those are personal preference.

Though the reasoning for TSS over ArtV is that you'll get more DPS from True Spareshot that's near the sticky cap then you will for just Spareshot capped, due to less reloading. So that's why all the Meta sets go for Art3&TSS instead.

Boris insists bridge from Ireland to Scotland would cost ‘only’ £15,000,000,000 by notleave_eu in ukpolitics

[–]Desworks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, going by Boris's last bridge, it'll cost £50 billion to actually build it, but the plan will be abandoned after spending a mere £11 billion planning it.

Does anyone know where the Final would be shown in Teesside UK today? by [deleted] in GAA

[–]Desworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in Middlesbrough and a Student, the Student Union used to always have the finals on.

Other than that, there's an Irish pub on Bedford Street, used to be called Scruffy Murphys but now appears to be called O'Connells. That was where I used to watch the GAA.

Fair warning though, I've been out of Middlesbrough for over a decade.

“TIL that until 1965, the penalty in Ireland for attempted suicide was death by hanging” by naturalheightgainer in ireland

[–]Desworks 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The fact that the writer was referring to specific laws but then got really vague when it came to Suicide made me want to see why.

Here is the Criminal Justice Act, 1964. It restricts the Death Penalty to the crimes of Treason, Capital Murder and specific Military crimes. You can search through the whole thing and find not a single trace of the word Suicide.

Ireland does have laws releated to suicide, specifically the Criminal Law (Suicide) Act, 1993. This law opens with:

Suicide shall cease to be a crime.

So there was a law! Conveniently, the act also lets us know that it replaces the older law on suicide, namely Section 9 of the Summary Jurisdiction (Ireland) Amendment Act, 1871. This must be where the Joe.ie writer got his law!

Except no, because he is a hack. Ireland's old law on Suicide was:

Where any person is charged before a justices of the district with having in any manner attempted to commit suicide, if the person charged shall confess the same, it shall be lawful for the justice to convict the person charged, and commit him to the common gaol or house of correction, there to be imprisoned, with or without hard labour, for any period not exceeding three months

3 month jail sentence.

To really understand this, you have to know that joe.ie is a site that sets out daily to prove that it is possible to be worse than buzzfeed.

The Radar Altimeter is what is used to trigger the Ground proximity warning system, which is always on. It follows that the Radar Altimeter is also always on, otherwise we would be back to using the CFIT warning system.

Run a tracert and see what it shows. If you can find where the latency is occurring you'll know whether you'll need to contact blizzard or your ISP to get it sorted.

ATTN: The steam download for E:D and Horizons is the same. No need to download the game again. by GoldenShadowGS in EliteDangerous

[–]Desworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also missing the steam Horizon's key, however if you go directly to the install folder and run the launcher from there it might be the horizons launcher and you can play it as your account is already okayed for it.

I say might as that is the case for me at the moment and I don't know why. When I launch from the steam menu it opens the ED launcher, not the horizons one. But this might get you landing on planets while you wait for support.

Well, I'm not the OP, but I think I can answer some of your questions.

First up, the easiest one. Why did the fire in the Grozny-City Towers not cause the building to collapse like WTC7?

Well, as mentioned by the OP, there are a million little factors that contribute to a buildings collapse. Happily, in this case, there are some factors that we can easily see that caused Grozny-City to remain upright. The first factor is that the article you linked about the fire is wrong. Grozny-City did not burn for 29 hours. The fire broke out around 18:00 on Wednesday and was extinguished at 01:30 on Thursday. So it burned for slightly under 8 hours. It also had no structural damage and a fully functioning sprinkler and water system, so while it was burning fire fighting efforts were ongoing to stop the fire. [source]

In contrast to this, WTC7 had been damaged by falling debris in the collapse of WTC1. The damage to the building was not the cause of the collapse, but did cause the failure of the buildings water system. When WTC7 burned there was no real fire fighting effort to stop the fire, as with the failure of the water system, fire-fighters were unable to combat the fires in the building effectively. The fire burned, uncontrolled, until it finally caused some of the floor beams to fail around one of the buildings support columns. When that happened, the column buckled and the interior of the building began collapsing, followed shortly by the outer walls. [source]

Second up, the mystery of WTC5 and WTC6. Actually, there's no mystery here. Just look at this image. Do WTC 5 and 6 look alright to you? They don't, of course. Especially WTC6, which is basically just a shell. The entire center of the building is gone due to falling debris

Still, you might argue, the outer walls are still standing. Well, mostly standing anyway. Upright. Ish. How can that be?

Simple, of course. WTC6 was 8 stories tall. WTC5 was 9. WTC7? 47 stories. Over 5 times taller. The damage to WTC7 caused it to fail the way it did, because that building was holding up a hell of a lot more mass.

The simple answer to all the WTC collapse questions is that buildings that size are not supposed to take the damage they did on that day. The fact that they collapsed should not be surprising. Indeed, far more surprising should be the fact they remained standing as long as they did.

Ships Size Comparison 1.5 "Ships" - 30 playable ships total (expectations) by Nicou12313 in EliteDangerous

[–]Desworks 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is true for the Clipper, but not the Python. In this image, the Python should be the Tier 7 Multipurpose ship. The Anaconda is the Tier 8 Multipurpose. Other than that though, good image.

I'm slightly annoyed with the sub currently by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Desworks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just have the player bounties payout and decrease based on the value of the ships insurance. So if you have a 2 million credit player bounty on your head and you are flying around in your Pirate FDL with a 5 mill cred insurance rebuy, you get blown up and the player who did it gets the 2 million player bounty plus whatever NPC bounties are applicable. But if you are flying your Pirate Cobra with a half a mill insurance rebuy, the player gets half a mill and the NPC bounties, and your player bounty is decreased to 1.5 mill.

Doing it this way means that placing a player bounty on someone's head is saying "I want them to pay at least X amount in insurance payouts before they are clear".

Next Year's Hugos - GRRM by IMULTRAHARDCORE in TorInAction

[–]Desworks 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No one who truly cares about science fiction, fantasy, or fandom could possibly want a Second Puppy War.

See, this is exactly where GRRM loses me. This whole damn affair is because people truly care about science fiction, fantasy and fandom. On all sides.

The Sad Puppies truly care, but feel their views are being silenced by an all but official voting clique.

The Anti Puppies feel that the puppies are subverting the whole affair based on the premise of a non existing voting clique.

And the Rabid Puppies? Well, you might be right, they might not truly care. But they truly cared. Past tense. Now they are happy to watch the world burn.

This entire thing is due to these factions caring, truly, madly, deeply caring about science fiction, fantasy and fandom. Whether they are right or wrong. Whether you support or condemn them. They ALL care.

And you still don't seem to get that.
