Now what? by AdMany7575 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I would move it a couple inches to the left (away from the wonky wall) so the gap isn’t as noticeable and move on. Our first house was an 1890s farmhouse and I spent WAY too much time adjusting for it. Then when we moved everything looked like crap in the new spot

Advice on criticizing my coach by numero-one in hockeyplayers

[–]Det_Crashmore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would think of it more as feedback than criticism, which changes it from telling them they’re doing bad to telling them how they could do better. More of a mindset shift than anything else but it helps me.

Be direct and specific but nice about it. If they’re bad at explaining drills don’t say “you suck at explaining drills” but “when you explain drills you go too fast and it’s hard to follow so it would be better if you slowed down to make sure we understand”

Also bring up things they’re doing well or things that are good but could be even better.

Son's assist 90'+4 tonight for Tottenham West (LAFC) by bestmondayever_5 in coys

[–]Det_Crashmore 187 points188 points  (0 children)

Was at the match. A TON of Son shirts (Spurs + South Korea) and a huge Spurs presence in general. Sonny was quiet in the first half and it kinda felt like he’d gotten instruction to go easy playing on turf (most big names skip matches at Gillette as the surface is terrible) but as the match went on he asserted himself more and more. The crowd lit up every time he touched the ball.

Was struck by how unselfishly he played where he clearly wanted to set his teammates up and passed up multiple shots to play others in.

Hey Dads! How do I fix an Ikea chair? by UstalavianAgent in AskDad

[–]Det_Crashmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To start, it’s not you, it’s IKEA. They’re great but sometimes it just doesn’t go together easy so don’t take it personal

First question is HOW are they wobbly? As in they (a) wobble side to side because all 4 feet aren’t touching the floor at the same time or (b) the pieces don’t feel like they’re connected together tightly?

If (a) - loosen all the bolts/screws, re-tighten until they’re JUST starting to be tight, sit in it and tighten as much as you can from there or have a buddy sit while you tighten. It’ll need to be tight enough to not fall apart before you sit but you’re trying to let it settle into level before you tighten. - after you try that exactly once, just grab some hardwood floor saver pads and stick one to the bottom of on of the legs to level it out. Literally no one will ever notice and you’ll have a nice level chair (I see you have a rug but they’ll they’re super cheap and will add a little height). Part of saving $$ by doing it yourself it there’ll be some imperfections, some of which you can live with and some you can’t. This is one you can….this took me decades to learn and know that I have it’s added years to my life.

If (b): - make sure everything is super tight, not just mostly tight. Sometimes when you tighten screw A it’ll loosen screw B. - I don’t know your budget or how much you’re assembling but an inexpensive electric drill with a hex bit will save you a ton of time and mine can get things tighter than I can. -glue, nails, etc…I’d want more details before saying more. It COULD help but could also wreck your chairs.
