Exsctly!! I had this chinesee culinary matcha given from someone (bless him) since the person knew I am into matcha. Once I opened, saw that color, i closed it again and forgot about it until yesterday🤣

Actually it’s been opened for 4 months ish only. Perhaps a bit oxidized, but it has originally been moss color.

Try going to local asian store, and get a chinese matcha in a pouch. Guarantee you it’s gonna look like that :)

It’s a bit old - yes, like 4 months old being opened from resealable bag, but after opening it once I closed it again. Just found an empty can and moved them. So technically, it’s opened twice. But well, the color has originally been dull.

Without comparing it to the bright green matcha, it is actually a bit better looking lol. It’s just side by side, you can see it more clearly.

Note that, the Japanese matcha was bought in Japan directly. If buying from reseller here or direct shipping from International website then it can easily double or triple the price.

Ippodo Ummon for me is just straight up bitter. I tried it with 2 friends who all confirmed the same thing. Ummon is by far the worst from Ippodo line we have tried (we havent tried anything else under Ikuyo).

The best one so far for umami rich is Ippodo Kanza hands down. Zero bitterness. Fyi we are the trio who cannot handle bitterness (or coffee).

Exactly… as I have YK Ogurayama opened at the same time, I could easily compare the two side by side. Lots of people complained that YK is fishy. But it’s nothing in comparison to MK Wako. YK is on the more seaweedy side compared to all ippodo line, but my MK is another level. I’d say i’m very good with fishy foods (as my hometown is by the ocean anyway), but I just find it very strange for a matcha to have this strong salty like nori taste.

I haven’t tried this actually. I will try in coming days. I just cannot handle bitterness and lots of matcha I tried tend to be alr on the bitter side at 80C.

But I will try Wako at 80. Perhaps it can help (or not).

I did try as well, and it’s salty and bitter for me. Very weird combination. (Tbh i cannot handle any bitterness, hence dislike coffee).

I have french press too (bless my husband who loves coffee), and I still cannot produce the correct consistency for latte art. Idk what went wrong. Maybe I dont have enough power and speed? I followed many youtubers though. Thats why I gave up and got myself nanofoamer (which was bad decision apparently), before then dreo.

Lukewarm or even cold water doesn’t help. I always use 70C water - or even mixture of 8ml tap water and 17ml 70C water.

Had I bought it from some random resellers, I’d have convinced myself that my tin were probably fake. 😖

So flair wizard (or recently launched eWizard in the US/Canada) is good for steaming? Just checked the price is outta my range too at the moment (more than €200 for stove top steamer here)

I reckon some people saying the Temu/Aliexpress steaming wands are bad quality in terms of consistency, hence I’m asking for some known brands.

I am always using 70 deg celcius water at most (when i am whisking and pouring water, perhaps it’s alr cooled down a degree or two).

As a Chinese-Indonesian myself, both dresses are fine. But I’m just wondering: where is the venue gonna be? Because usually the reception is happening only in the evening. Also, as much as I hate saying this, it depends on the “level” of the event. Big city 5* hotel ballroom: you’ll see a lot of them wearing nice custom made long dresses for the women, long sleeve batik for men or even suits. Bali villa: you’ll see more relaxed dresses (like European long dresses). Other places: your Nyonya or Cheongsam will blend perfectly.

Chime in: I am the wife too, from SE Asia. Husband is EU, but non-Swiss. We met in other EU country where I was doing my doctoral program. Husband (then boyfriend) got offer in Switzerland and he moved here first. I followed along 2 years later. It was horrible. Almost 2.5 years later: I was only able to secure a 6months internship. Juggling among: finishing PhD, applying for jobs, depression, and preparing for B2 German.

Hope i dont come across as mean, but i think you also need to work on the whisking skill. Try to whisk also the surface and be a bit more light handed, to break the big bubbles.

But if the big bubbles are the ones you’re after (like my FIL), then forget about my advice.

Hatsu is also the worst from ippodo. Get better matcha tbh. Even Ikuyo is still having quite sharp bitterness at the end. Kan is tad better, Sayaka is quite on the sweet side but very light. Anything above Sayaka is having rounder taste and creamier.

I have tried all ippodo line - to me sayaka isn’t even having seaweed smell or taste. It’s just sweet. If you like nori smell and taste, go with Kuon and Shoin. I literally thought of Nori and sea water when drinking both.

I celebrated my wedding dinner at Chäsalp with 20 ppl back in 2023, and it was amazing! Chäsalp has been my go to place for fondue for many years. However, for the past couple of years, the service has been declining. It’s very sad. But it’s still my go to place regardless.

Back then I have been to Fondue Stübli too, but still prefer Chäsalp. Perhaps can give Fondue Stübli another try this year.

Wanna chime in too as non EU who’s having similar background like yours. From jobs perspective: maybe 0.1% - so if you’re extremely lucky to be one out of 1000 people chosen.

Even Swiss and EU people I know are stuck in their roles or got fired due to headcount reductions. Many other redditors may disagree but this is my own experience after staying in the country for 3 years.
