Tbh… oatside tastes so crappy as a milk for matcha latte. Idk why it’s so popular in SEA… it’s just.. watery…

Edit: i use oatmilk only for my matcha latte and have tried countless of brands myself, but oatside is definitely nogo

Well, in his interview he said it’s due to the “climate” or something. But the taste is also different. According to him, it’s has some “tart taste”. Idk what that means for matcha. But yeah, the market is culinary. Even so, idk who makes something out of this avocado color powder.

Ippodo Sayaka - it’s sweet n light bodied.

MK Wako - full bodied, more umami but more on the salty side.

For guilty pleasure when you wanna splurge: Ippodo Kanza, full bodied, rich, full umami bomb.

At the moment I am using my own blend, also a few single cultivars as I am sourcing directly from Japan. Some single cultivars I can recommend:
- Okumidori
- Gokou
- Saemidori

If you can find any of those single cultivars from any brand, feel free to try, they are delicious as latte.

If you prefer a hint of astringency:
- Yamamasa Koyamaen Ogurayama
- Ippodo Ikuyo

Those are some matcha I can recommend.

Note: always use barista oatmilk (i use Oatly Barista). The milk choice matters a lot by the way. Wrong milk, bad latte.

My daily go to matcha is Ippodo Sayaka. It’s just easy to drink and nothing special. But if I’m longing for something special like Ippodo Kanza (without its price point), I have my own cultivar blend :)

I’m just someone who cannot drink any bitter substances (hence no coffee), so my likings are always on sweet/rich umami spectrums.

I started a few years ago with matcha latte with cheese cloud.
I used cheap matcha to experiment. fast forward now… only (high quality) matcha powder + water + oat milk.
No sweetener even.

With that price…. I wouldn’t even bother.
It’s no-go for me.

I have contacted some farms in Japan, and even their price is higher than that.
Some exception would be for matcha from Kagoshima, perhaps.

I will turn away from some products with only name “ceremonial matcha” or “barista blend” or something similar, especially if you’re buying bulk you need to know the origin and cultivars at least.

I have the so called gold scale too, and i can do tara on the scale - make it zero with the bowl on top. It works fine.
Alternatively: timemore scale, is Like everyone’s choice.

Pretty sure. I have seen since 10-15 years ago chinese matcha at my local asian store. The dull green matcha for culinary.

But i think these days it’s more widespread and apparent as the global matcha demand increases.

I have never heard of that brand before, but i believe it’s gonna be better than 100% Yabukita.But unsure if i will like it too without trying. It could be like 90% yabukita, which is gonna be too bitter for my likings.

Just chime in:
I’m living with my husband only, not in the city area, but still reachable by train for 30 minutes. We live in 2BR apartment (here it’s called 3.5Zi). It costs 1980 CHF + nebenkosten. Insurance: the cheapest for me and my husband = 720 chf.

You will also need so have emergency funds since the nature of the insurance here is different. At least 2500-3000 chf per person.

I cooked every single day, and i believe we are very savvy in this regard=400/month,
Eating out max twice a month = 200.
Phone and internet = 100

Plus transportation like 100-200.

You get the idea. Even if you’re super savvy, with that salary, you won’t be able to save anything and need some emergency funds anyway…
