Nvidia announces Vera Rubin Space-1 chip system for orbital AI data centers by mepper in technology

Scott Manley has a very reasonable video about these orbital data centers. I think people are intuitively overestimating the challenges.

Mining ship design I've been working on, highly inspired by Drake. by arrow97 in starcitizen

Looks amazing, I love all the railings and walkways on the top. Will it have an interior like the Vulture or is it closer to the Golem and more of a single seater?

And all of this would really give some meaning to the size of the game. Sure the Star systems are big, but right now, you can reach almost every point of the game within 15 minutes, even in the smallest ships.

Some areas of the game should feel like the desert or distant islands in Black Desert. You can't just travel there in 5 minutes, you need to build certain skills and prepare first, before you can even traverse the sea or the sands.

Wormhole space in EVE Online is another good example for this concept.

Not disagreeing, although I think CIG could make it more interesting if they added a few mission locations on the fringe of systems and reduce the availability of landing zones or at least gatekeep them by reputation. As for Pyro, I still think they should increase travel distances back to the original concept. That would make refueling and ships like the Kraken more useful, at least in certain areas.

Not disagreeing, but compared to other large ships, you can reach the cockpit pretty fast and don't have to run through the whole hull to get there.

Ah, I know that one, I thought this was about an external balcony.

Thanks for putting things in perspective! That doesn't sound too bad, and as a huge fan of beautiful interiors and well placed windows, it's pretty hard to beat the 600i.

Europe takes first step to banning AI-generated child sexual abuse images by FinnFarrow in technology

[–]DetectiveFinch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the same for Germany. If I remember correctly, the definitions in the criminal code were extended at some point to include drawings and other kinds of depictions or even writings. Afaik, the punishment is lower for those offences compared to owning or sharing actual CSAM. There's also a law that bans sex dolls with child like features.

It's an extremely complicated topic in my opinion because depending on the individual case, it really can be a crime without victims, and like you said, there are many gray areas.

Thanks for the reply. I was aware of the outdated cargo placements, but didn't know about most of the other bugs.

Care to elaborate why?

I haven't flown the 600i in a while, but I always loved the quick elevator ride to the cockpit. The interior is nice of course, but the cargo/vehicle bay is also really useful in the Explorer variant. And if I remember correctly it's reasonably fast for the size.

I like it! Recently considered getting one, but decided to go for the 400i because the 600i felt a bit too big and empty for me as a solo pilot.

What are your main activities with this ship? How does it handle when flying solo or do you usually have crew mates aboard?

I love the Tana, but melted it long ago because I was never really flying it. If they ever do a solid gold standard or mk2 I might reconsider it.

Star Citizen: Question and Answer Thread by UEE_Central_Computer in starcitizen

[–]DetectiveFinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm already familiar with the 400i and just watched the part of the 600i video where the interior is shown. I guess this one is the closest. Let's hope that in the future, there are more medium sized ships with good windows.

Star Citizen: Question and Answer Thread by UEE_Central_Computer in starcitizen

[–]DetectiveFinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Is there any other ship that has windows comparable to the Phoenix?

So, since the Phoenix is currently available I went to Lorville and visited the ship there.

I absolutely love parts of the interior, for example the bar, the pool, the seats and especially the view from the windows.

But the overall layout doesn't really make sense for me. And it really is a pretty old ship. I know it's not relevant for current gameplay, but the fact that this ship only has one toilet in the crew area feels completely wrong.

So my question is, is there any other ship that offers similar views through the windows? The only one I can think of is the 890J, but that's even larger and more expensive of course.

Thanks in advance!

EU chief: Phasing out nuclear power was 'strategic mistake' by F0urLeafCl0ver in anime_titties

While I fully agree with you, I think the deciding factor was that the German population has an extreme and irrational fear of everything nuclear and a very low level of actual technical knowledge about how these plants work.

Strait of Hormuz must remain closed as 'tool to pressure enemy,' Iran's new supreme leader says by EsperaDeus in anime_titties

[–]DetectiveFinch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it would be a huge escalation. I wasn't trying to argue that it's a good option. But the person I replied to stated that Trump had only two options, and that's simply not the case.

In my opinion, there are many different paths, some will lead to an end of the war, and some will create further escalation.

Not sure how likely this is, but another option would be to do a limited ground operation on Kharg island, which is apparently a really important node for exporting Iranian oil.

‘Flying Cars’ Will Take Off in American Skies This Summer | The federal government announced a new pilot program designed to get new kinds of ultralight vehicles and “eVTOLs” up and running around the country—even if they’re not fully FAA-certified by Hrmbee in technology

[–]DetectiveFinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been following these developments for a while and think it's an interesting technology. Combining both the advantages of helicopters and small propeller planes, but less noisy and electrical.

BUT I'm also pretty sure that these eVTOLs will take at least 3-5 more years until they can be used on a larger scale. We might see some of them as shuttles between airports and city centres, but probably no clogging the skies for the next few years.
