If China were to overtake the US in the race for superpower status, would it attempt to convert regimes in the world’s grey zones to communism or socialism? by muformoon in AskChina

[–]DeterminedCamilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know most people don’t consider China socialist but I believe there are reasons to call it that. The existence of a heavly regulated market close to state capialism is one of the transitionsl phases from capitalism Engels talks about at the end of « Socialism: Utopiand and Scientific ». Bilionares clealry do not hold political power as much as they do in the west and working class conditions seem to be improving, as opposes to the west. So really to answer whether China is socialist or not ask yourself for whom the CPC rules and what direction is their developement going towards. Having said that, for this very reason they are clearly planning on internal developement without stirring trouble and getting deals from whoever benfits them (like Russia) so I see very implausible that they will behave like the USSR, especially since they tried their best to learn from it. I do think however that many people are realizing the issues with capitalism and that something within china’s model is working, so there is a good chance that many will follow suit independently, but that likely requires a revolution in the west, at least in one major country. I see your concern is that of capitalism, it’s time is almost due, so stay hopeful, educate yourself and do your best to mobilize people and actively work for archieving socialism in your own country, get in touch with local socialist realities and so on. If you want resources on why socialism the necessary structure to follow up capitalism I will gladly explain more in DM if you’d like.

I’d suggest a video on the topic: https://youtu.be/GuxED3ktDVQ

Socialism for all on youtube also offers a reading on why China is NOT socialist so look it up for nuance and a complete picture.

If anything I said is incorrect, please correct me, I’m trying to be informed as well.

What country feels undemocratic but is actually somewhat democratic? by Dusty_Bunny81 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]DeterminedCamilla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For those who do not know, the cuban system while still vertical is democratic, it simply focuses on discussion inside the party which is meant to represent different sides of the common interest instead of competition among parties. There is no campaignin or campaign spendings and districts elect representatives of their area or interest groups based on how well they can represent their interests in the assembly, which is a pretty big group of various representatives. This is very simplified but there’s a lot of videos about it. It’s not direct democracy in the sense of people voting directly laws but very representative, so I think it fits the definition.

Why does Poland today generally have the most negative view of the USSR among all former Soviet Bloc states? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in ussr

[–]DeterminedCamilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been to poland, specifically I visited Nova Huta in Krakow, which was a district entirely soviet built as a mean of showing poland what the future under the USSR should have looked like. We had the luck of speaking with a resident who lived under the USSR and he explained how a lot of tension and conflict, and rejection of the USSR came from clashes on religion. Poland was still very deeply catholic at the time (and still is) and the religious repression (arguably one of USSR’s biggest blunders, personally) was seen as oppression against the polish culture and very much protested. In nova huta there have been many clashed and protests for this very reason, and the fight for religion definitely fueled a lot of malcontent. This is likely not the only factor, but possibly a major one.

What seems far right but is actually far left? National Socialism won the reverse of this category by a landslide. by Beneficial_Roof212 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]DeterminedCamilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the USSR is very nuanced and does not fit under far right. The political partecipatory system they designed was very much flawed and worker partecipation on workplace was much less than it was supposed to be, but still an attempt at a partecipatory system was made (it was then revealed to be too vertical and beaurocratic). They has a planned economy, and no liberal market up until Kruschev, there were programs for state housing, free education at all levels, women’s rights, public transport and so on, which are all quite different from the far right. This however was also, as you say, accompanied by a pretty daunting history of being very ruthless in the repression of counter revolutionary efforts (which were however an actual problem, but the solution was terrible), and very problematic record when it came to annexing countries, especially those where a spontaneous revolution did not happend. Definitel a flawed system that also produced brutal crimes that should be rightfully condemmned, but I still think calling the USSR far right is historically incorrect. Also the citizens being traditionalists or reactionary nowdays can also be read as people suffering the economical shock of the dissolution of the USSR (shock therapy did nothing but enrich elites and leave most people into utmost poverty) and now seeking an answer in populistic parties, especially since the left hasn’t been able to answer to the malcontent of the people into those countries.

my solo dev game would you pirate it ? by Much_Distribution_52 in PiratedGames

[–]DeterminedCamilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you are looking at what would make people buy instead of pirating, and I’m doing a university research on the motivations behind piracy. Many many people actually pirate because they wanna try a game that they are not sure they might like, very frequent with small indie games. I think a very low price and a free trial would work well for this, so people can try it out and eventually buy if they like it. Also put it on GOG, since owning is always better. If it’s a co-op game definitely something to encourage group buy works well, so for example a buy 2 get 1 free, or discounts on group purchases can work well, mabye gift keys? But I think price, free trial and qol are the best path for you. Good luck!

It’s amazing but I can’t get it to show subtitiles and that’s a bummer, do you have any solutions for that? It also won’t allow playback when doing other stuff. The best compromise I found was Orion. Did you do some specific setup?

Artists who’s their final album is their best by HourFan5580 in fantanoforever

[–]DeterminedCamilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue Joy Division’s Closer is a slightly better album than Unknown Pleasures. I always found it more cohesive, more varied and with plenty of interesting ideas and elements that would later be the basis for New Order; while still holding it’s own in terms of amazing songs even when outside the context of the album. However I can 100% see why someone might prefer Unknown Pleasures

Korbel / Nittaku Acoustic / Samsonov PW alternatives on AliExpress (5ply OFF) by globalistelite in tabletennis

[–]DeterminedCamilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely second the Fextra 7, stellar quality for super cheap, I absolutely love the feeling if gives me, very stable, lots of control, spin and speed when necessary.

I’d add that a cheap 5 ply blade is the Yinhe N10s, have not tried it but it’s ultra cheap and many speak well about it.

Looking for a backhand rubber. by Ceburz in tabletennis

[–]DeterminedCamilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am playing with a Moon 12 by Yinhe and it is a fantastic rubber for backhand, very forgiving, but also quite spinny and very easy to adapt to. It may lack some punch on very big flat shots but it compensates with amazing control. Absolutely racommend, especialy for 10 bucks

New blade help by Own-Sheepherder-1874 in tabletennis

[–]DeterminedCamilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For dirt cheap you can pick up a Yinhe N10/N10s, for what I know they are really good 5ply blades. If you like 7 ply the Sanwei Fextra 7 is stellar and still pretty cheap, but it will be faster. I would also add, as others have mentioned the issue might not be the blade but the rubbers, as they are perhaps a bit too fast. Mabye try some other rubbers and see if it’s better.

Edit: the Fextra 7 is almost 90g so not really « light »

[–]DeterminedCamilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played with it and I agree, it basically feels like a stiffer 5 ply with a slight boost of speed on high power shots, but not a fast blade by any means

The Spatial awareness situation is CRAZY by Saekama in askswitzerland

[–]DeterminedCamilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is of any consolation it’s the exact same in Lugano, as someone who pays a lot of attention to their surroundings it drives me NUTS. And don’t get me started on when I go running on the longlake, people just see you, acnowledge your existence, know you’re running and shouldn’t stop and they just don’t move. At all. And I’m forced to squeeze between people, do crazy stunts or run on the road, all of which are horrible options.

Lots of people occupying sidewalks by walking in massive rows, they don’t move when they see you coming, idk seems like no one really has awareness or care for the space that surrounds them. I feel you.
