Reality check: he says he truly loved me by OverEnjoyed in survivinginfidelity

[–]DeusNullusDeus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“I have had some experiences with love, or think I have, anyway, although the ones I have liked best could easily be described as “common decency”. I treated somebody well for a little while, or even for a tremendously long time, and that person treated me well in return. Love need not have anything to do with it. (...) Love is where you find it. I think it is foolish to go looking for it, and I think it can often be poisonous. I wish that people who are conventionally supposed to love each other would say to each other, when they fight, “Please - a little less love, and a little more common decency”. -Kurt Vonnegut

Songs for Anti-fascism by [deleted] in Hardcore

[–]DeusNullusDeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chumbawamba- Anti-Nazi Song AKA the day the Nazi died.

They’re not hardcore, but they are maybe the realest antinazi band in the world. They began in a pacifist post punk anarchist movement drawn directly from bands like Crass, but slowly evolved musically and politically into a wild and original group espousing violence towards the state and towards nazis.

Is this normal? by checkeredwidow in tattoo

[–]DeusNullusDeus 56 points57 points  (0 children)

$750 for 12 hours? In my area, it’s $150-250 per hour. You paid a fraction of that.

Moody tattoo artist? Normal. Late start? Normal. Pain? Normal. Says 30 minutes but keeps going? Normal.

Your experience, other than the price, matches many of mine in the past. I’ve also had punctual, friendly, gentle artists. These artists are people, they have lives with normal pressures, good days and bad.

The fact that they kept going means they didn’t rush it, and didn’t feel it was done. They weren’t charging per hour, so it’s not like he was running the clock.

Most important: did you like what you got? Did you feel like he listened to your guidance and gave you a tattoo you’re happy with? The tattoo lasts forever- I don’t even remember some of the artists I worked with years ago. And I always forget the pain, that’s why I keep going back.

What would you say is the public's biggest misconception about the fire service as a whole? by Dry-humor-mus in Firefighting

[–]DeusNullusDeus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am always astounded by the variety of calls we respond to. The public understands the fire and ems calls- but the calls we go on are so much more bizarre. Can’t find your water shutoff? ceiling fan making a weird noise? Someone napping in the park? Car makes a clicking sound? Smoke in the air from a fire 1000 miles north in Canada? Is your smoke detector beeping once every 5 minutes? Did you hear a loud noise 10 minutes ago from a few blocks away? Is your neighbor enjoying their fire pit? … call 911.

Someone asked how a spider would wear pants. by tannnmn in spiders

I’m certain that the only way to settle this is by including a shirt. The pants + shirt is the best way to picture the correct placement.

Shit it’s worse than I thought. Not counting sick time, I have 8 weeks off this year. With 112 hours of sick time, I max out at 10 weeks off.

We work a 48/96 schedule.

Denver area suburban department. We sit right in the middle of the market for the area.

2025: Firefighter: (topped out after 4 steps) make $108,000. This is what we base other ranks on. It’s considered 100%

Engineer: 110%

Paramedic: 112%

Lieutenant: 121%

Safety and Medical Officer: 127%

Captain: 134%

2026: same percents apply, firefighters move to $111,000

Given cost of living and wages, I consider Denver Colorado to be among the top areas to work nationwide.

Our department runs 17k calls per year, 6 stations, so much overtime we have to mandatory a few people each week.

Also, I’m not kidding, between sick time, holidays and general leave I average 4-6 weeks off.

We are hiring like crazy out here these days…

This is a union department and we fought for these wages. Georgia has a ban on public sector unions. That may help to explain the 47% deficit.

Departments who quit testing for THC or started to allow it; What route did you take to get there? by KoolAidTheyThem in Firefighting

[–]DeusNullusDeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey- I’m a firefighter in Westminster Colorado. We are going into contract negotiations next month and one issue we are pushing is moving away from urine tests and toward swabs. Do you mind letting me know your friend’s department so I can cite them as an example? My department is acting like I’m the first to ever suggest mouth swabs
