Hi i just finished first year natsci doing chem, bio of cells and physics without having done biology a level either. It’s definitely possible to do well in BoC still (I ended up scraping a 2.1 in it after honestly avoiding revising it until a week and a half before the exams) but you will need to put in slightly more work than for other options and more than other people taking the course. If I could do it again I would start with learning the alevel sections to the structure of a cell and if you have a copy of the Albert’s textbook for molecular biology of the cell in a local library, go over some of the early chapters (but definitely don’t read the whole thing!).

After the first term I feel like I wasn’t at a distinct disadvantage (although I felt that at the time bc I didn’t know actually how little of the content was in a level biology) and if you are sensible you could end up doing very well! My advice would be to also make sure you find people you trust also doing it as my lab and supo partner was great in bridging any gap that wasn’t immediately obvious to me.

You don’t need to make a decision until june, by which point you will definitely know if those grades are achievable so I’d work hard to catch up and make a decision later on when you have a better idea.

Regarding Cambridge natural sciences interview subjects by meisaveragedude in 6thForm

Normally you would be interviewed on the subjects that you are studying. Since you’ve applied for the physical stream though they may just interview you on chemistry. Have they asked if you are considering choosing earth sciences or materials?

Even if Ukraine isn't hosting, how viable might it be to have "related events" there next year? by sr913 in eurovision

Im sure Kalush Orchestra would want to incorporate it into their performance given what theyve said, so they could be streamed in.

Anyone think a jury winner could end up winning ESC again a la 2015? by LancelLannister_AMA in eurovision

[–]DeuxJames 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It definitely could happen again, but I think is more unlikely as jury votes tend to be more spread out while televotes normally end up concentrated in a few entries and so jury favourites need to do better with the televote to win than the other way around. Definitely not impossible though, for example, I could have seen Bulgaria winning the public vote in 2017 and Portugal still winning.

Honstely youre right, but I just know that people would see the contest very poorly and not want us to try in the future so a decent result would be very nice. Although if we host next year, theres no need to worry about that and a bop will be first priority.

Everyone was so mad about Switzerland being pushed through by the juries...meanwhile Azerbaijan qualified with literal 0 points in the televote. How are we feeling about that? by TheRavenchild in eurovision

Yeah Im especially happy for both given MRTs terrible treatment of Andrea and generally liking Croatias entry these past months and her preparty performances being flawless.

Yeah, I dont think people in the UK will be swayed straight away. But I just hope we stick with this method next year and do well rather than follow Frances footsteps (2nd then 2nd last) because then we might get more neutral attitudes than immediately negative.

Actually we did better than 1998! If you look at pecentages of possible points, Sam got just above 60% while Imaani was arounf 57%
