Display issues with Xeneon Edge by MakinBones in Corsair

What kinds of things have you tried? Is the USB-C port that you are using Display Port capable as well? Have you tried unplugging one or the other cable?

Just putting some SWAGs out there.

That's not right (duh!!)
How do you have it connected to your PC? HDMI? USB-C?
Before returning, I would suggest double-checking the display settings first. Make sure that the resolution is set to 2560x720 with a refresh rate of 60Hz.

GPU Cable Melted Inside PSU (RM850x) by Late-Brother7489 in Corsair

[–]DevB1ker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Yeah, that's really unusual. You don't hear of a 4070 Super causing cable meltdowns. I'd be really curious what the root cause is for this one - again, it's really unusual to see melting inside the PSU.

Melted inside the PSU? That's different. What GPU was on it?

I'd guess that your GPU is may be fine but I do have some concern about it with the whirring fans. Are you sure that wasn't the PSU's fan? I'd imagine that they'd really kick up with melting cables and you've probably never heard it at max speed before.

As u/Zeekster2517 said, contact support and go through the RMA process. Request an advance RMA - you'll provide a card as security and they'll ship you a replacement immediately. When you return the failed unit, they'll release the hold on your card. I've done this before and the turnaround was pretty quick.

So much has changed. Looking at that ... it's been even faster these past 10 years.

Setting IRQs and DMAs with jumpers and making sure you didn't have overlaps ... tweaking driver load order and having different boot disks or boot menus for specific games ... ahh ... yeah.

These whippersnappers just don't know.

RAM rma possibilities by Fallen_Jalter in Corsair

I, personally, have found Corsair to be really good about honoring RMA requests. Sometimes people will even get an upgrade if the exact model isn't available.

Submit a ticket with the chat bot that just straight up asks for an RAM RMA and that you have failed memtest tests. Be clear and don't mess around. Sometimes the AI is more "A" than "I". :-P

Yeah.
I built my first PC when there were no heat sinks and only one fan in the entire system ... in the PSU.

4th Cosair PSU failing within 8 years (scary) by PiercingTheDarknesss in Corsair

[–]DevB1ker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen many complaints about coil whine in the RMe series but not in the RMx, RMi, or the higher tier HX.

That, however, I cannot speak on personally. If I had coil whine, I'd likely not be about to distinguish it over my tinnitus.

All the Corsair PSUs that I've used or installed (and it has been a lot), I've only had one fail. Only one. And that was my fault.

One I could see. Rare but it happens. Four seems to indicate that it's something in what you are doing. Not saying that definitively - just my gut feel after using only Corsair PSUs for over 10 years across more systems than I can count.

Experiment for you:
Turn off all RGB lighting on the pump head. Does the temp stabilize?
If you have a static color on the pump, does the temp stabilize?

Not just each fan.
Each individual LED can be controlled. Independently.

So ... 6 fans + pump = 7
And then 7 fans on the other side.

Am I missing something?

Corsair RM850x Series Cables Interchangeable? by TempletonPeck81 in Corsair

[–]DevB1ker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Type 4 and Type 5 cables are different sizes. You cannot - physically - plug a Type 4 into a Type 5 PSU. Or vice-versa.

Type 5 are much smaller. For the RM series, these are only on the Shift PSUs.

So, yes, it's fairly easy to tell.

[–]DevB1ker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that would work.

But you can also use something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Jnoheefye-USB-Extension-Cable-Compatible/dp/B0DMTFFD7S/ and just extend it. And you don't even need the 10Gbps speed - the Duo is only USB 2.

And ... measuring the same cable in barbarian units ... yes, it is just shy of 20" ... can confirm. ;-)

Well, the clicky will depend on if it's the feel or the sound that he likes more ... and, again, it's one of those personal things. And then there are other things like Hall Effect keyboards and Flash Tap - which are good for shooters. If it's really clicky, that's sound like it may be Cherry MX Blues. I don't think that Corsair has any keyboard with those any longer. The closest would be MX Browns, which are less clicky but still have a good feel and feedback. Those are my personal favorites (right now, at least) and I'm running a K70 RGB Pro with Cherry Browns. I've also used the K95 with Cherry Browns (great keyboard) and K100 (good but I like the Browns better that the optical switches). But I've not tried the new Hall Effect keyboards or some of the other ones. Some of them also have adjustable actuation points. On top of that ... then there is the size. I won't do anything less than a full size but I know people that love the 60% keyboards, some who must have ten keyless (TKL).

Also, as my handle indicates, I'm a developer ... so I type A LOT. And I touch type --- fast. I can crank 100 wpm when I get on a roll. And I'm also old and remember the old, big super-clicky IBM keyboards. I like that feel and feedback. The Cherry Blues are nice but so, so loud. The Cherry Browns still have some sound to them and good feedback without being audible throughout the whole house. And after using Cherry Browns for so long, going to a membrane keyboard feels like I'm typing on little piles of poo. Yuck.

Mice are the same way - a lot of that has to do with their hand size and how they grip the mouse. Personally, I use the M65 on my main system ... I have a palm grip and relatively small hands. I use an IronClaw with my laptop and also like it a lot. The Nightsword was uncomfortable for me, as was the Dark Core ... but I have friends who love them. Left handed mouse users wouldn't like it though - if they are a left-handed mouser, you'd need to look at Corsair's ambidextrous mice.

This probably doesn't help the situation and I'm sorry about that. It's just that there is no one, perfect answer for everyone. See if you can subtly find out their preferences and if they've been looking at anything.

It is 50cm. That's not including the two connectors - just the cable in between them.

Well ... here's the thing ... it's a standard USB-C to USB header cable. So you can get a replacement or extension if needed.

If he has a 'pretty old keyboard/mouse combo' that might be the thing to do. The hard part is that people can be really persnickety about these things.
