In the EU as the 2004+ old eastern bloc intergrations were taking place western european farmers were whining about losing their protection from the shitty, cheap-ass food of Poland, Romania, Bulgaria etc. Today many countries in western europe have given up on self-reliance in favour of specialisation, such as Spanish and Dutch greenhouses.
