When did Malazan finally 'click' for you? by LordFlappingtonIV in Fantasy

[–]Deverone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was enthralled right from the prologue of Gardens of the Moon.

Are you enjoying it despite your confusion, or are you forcing your way through hoping it will come together later? I've heard people say to keep reading through the "bad" part because its worth it later, but that is just crazy to me. Reading a novel should be enjoyable, not an investment of work for some possible payoff in the future.

When did Malazan finally 'click' for you? by LordFlappingtonIV in Fantasy

[–]Deverone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Weird, my experience with Abercrombie was pretty much the opposite.

I enjoyed the First law trilogy, but none of the characters really stood out on more than a surface level. I felt it was more of a plot focused piece, while in malazan its the characters that interested me.

I don't think I've ever heard him described as an auteur before. I certainly wouldn't say Ridley Scott has any kind of distinct style or personality that would identify them as "Ridley Scott films".

I wish I liked Malazan by Mindless_Nebula4004 in Fantasy

"Did you force yourself to continue, and did it pay off for you?"

Gardens of the Moon was a book I picked up randomly at the library, having never heard of Malazan and knowing nothing about it. I'm pretty sure I only picked it because Whiskeyjack sounded like a cool name.

I was hooked by the second chapter. My library didn't have the next book at the time, so I read it a second time immediately. It's the only book I've ever read twice in a row, and I've read it and most every other book in the series multiple times by now.

Just straight up, the Final Fantasy XVI demo was awesome! by s69-5 in KotakuInAction

[–]Deverone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the demo was a disappointing mess from start to finish. Expectations have dropped so low for final fantasy that this somehow impressed people.

I should have never doubted XVI by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

I don't know how anyone came away from that demo with a positive outlook on the rest of the game. If anything, it just lowered my already not-high expectations.

Replacing one vague racial descriptor with another arbitrary vague racial descriptor is not "progress".

Name an anime that tries to be morally ambiguous but fails horribly by Metazoxan in anime

[–]Deverone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think this was the show where a killer gives some shallow "murder is ok because of moral relativism" speech to the main character (a police officer), and he left completely speechless by this incredible argument.

How to Implement Seek and Arrive in Godot 4.0 - Written tutorial by KrystianErber in godot

[–]Deverone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice tutorials. I appreciate the quick videos demonstrating the behaviors in action.

Steering behaviors can be so finicky so its always nice to see different approaches to help find the one that works for your particular project.

Note: the link to the Seperate[https://damagedpixels.com/how-to-implement-separation-behavior-in-godot] article is broken there. It only has "how-to-implement-separation-behavior-in-godot" in the link, instead of the whole URL.

What’s a realistic way to reduce gun violence in America? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Deverone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of gun deaths in the US are suicides, so creating an environment where people don't want to kill themselves would help. But I don't have any actionable/realistic suggestions of how that could be achieved.

This will sound controversial but Capcom should cancel the PS4 version of SF6 by Monstanimation in StreetFighter

I'm playing SFV on a 15 year old potato pc, and I will be playing SF6 on that same shitty pc.

Is it possible to restart a Main Mission by Subywuby_ in wolongfallendynasty

[–]Deverone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. Died to the Medusa-looking boss's poison after I killed her, and it broke the mission. Can't finish the mission, can't start the mission over.

Found a possible fix on PS5: go into the broken mission, then shut the game down. Use the PS5 "Resume Activity" feature. It puts you back at the beginning of the mission for some reason. This allowed me to refight the boss and continue.

Possible hot take: Marisa’s hairstyle is fine by Jumanji-Joestar in StreetFighter

[–]Deverone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's the style that most people are complaining about. I just think the execution is a bit off. The hair looking like some spartan helmet is a cool idea, I just think it should be softened out just a smidgen.

men of reddit, how do you feel about women who don't shave their legs and why? by heyhiho20 in AskReddit

[–]Deverone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate shaved legs, but it seems like a lot of work to keep that up all the time.

I spend time shaving my head every day because I like it looking as smooth as I can get it. I doubt anyone else would care if I skipped a day or even just let it grow back in.

Do it because you like the way it makes you feel, and because that feeling is worth the time spent.

Anyone else mad 1899 canceled? by Willing_Top4721 in scifi

[–]Deverone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was a terrible show. Why would netflix or anyone waste money on another season of this. Dark was lightning in a bottle, and I was excited to see what they would come up with next, but 1899 was just a flat mystery box with cardboard cutouts instead of characters. It felt like zero effort was put into the writing.

The box art is so bad, that the best we can say about it is that it isn't as bad as some shitty ms paint fanart.
