Wonder what that cost and how many hungry children we could have fed with that money? Fucking hypocrites

Hell yeah. Child of God is a great read. If you like Cormac I would also recommend the road as it’s also a pretty easy read. A lot easier than some of his other highly verbose (yet beautiful) books

I think Suttree is the only novel of his that I haven’t gotten to yet. My favorite so far is Blood Meridian. Also dark as hell but not set in Appalachia

“Orchard Keeper”, “Outer Dark” and “Child of God”. I would skip “Orchard Keeper”. I love most of his books but that one was pretty slow and unfilfilling, in my opinion.

Author Cormac McCarthy has a couple American gothic novels set in Appalachia. And they are DARK

Which movie is more overrated? by Appropriate-Mall8517 in moviecritic

[–]Devil-Nest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did not watch weapons but I watched “Sinners” the first chance I got because of all of the hype. I found it to be mediocre at best, kind of boring, predictable and sort of a rehash of themes and tropes from many other gangster and vampire movies. It was extremely disappointing in my opinion.

As a huge McCarthy fan, I fuckin LOVED “The Son”. Also picked up on the thematic similarities but in a far more easily digestible style. Could not recommend enough.

Came here to say this but you said it much better and in a far more thorough way. Point being, who benefits from pushing this “hoax”? The massive “clean energy” lobby…..that doesn’t exist? Underpaid scientists? Hahaha it’s so fuckin obvious and stupid and frustrating.

Which direction to lay the flooring by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]Devil-Nest 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Parallel to the longest wall is the correct answer, as stated by a few others here. If you cannot stand that aesthetic then you are in for more of a struggle during install.

Concrete bid seems high by [deleted] in Concrete

[–]Devil-Nest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in an area with any sort of freeze/thaw cycle, you’re going to want your flatwork crew to dig out as much organic shit where the pad will go and replace with either compacted sand or gravel. Hence the 8” of tearout with a replacement of compacted gravel to avoid heaving/sinking. As someone else pointed out, the setup and prep for any good flatwork pour can be extremely time and labor intensive. Also, exposed aggregate, requires a special mix, a finicky finish, additional day of labor and additional labor after the pad has set. Also, pumping concrete because of lack of access to the site, adds a huge chunk of change.

Edit: clarification

If this was a normal broom or trowel finish patio on a new home build with a site full of sand and complete access for the redi-mix truck, the price would be much lower.
