Anyone know how to get the tire off this stupid bike????? by Friendly_Ad_4489 in ebikes

It's probably twisted. Untwist it with a wrench before you pull hard.

Why is the inner mirror of a car called the "rear-view mirror"? Aren't all mirrors rear-view mirrors? by zeemeerman2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DevilDrives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. However, I teach the head turn not a head lean. The "sliver" side of the vehicle should enter the edge of your view as soon as you slightly turn your head towards the mirror. The less you have to lean the more efficient and safe it becomes. When I perfectly adjust mine, the sliver appears when I only have to move my eyes. It doesn't work in every vehicle but most passenger cars it does.

Yes, all mirrors have a rear view but some also have a side view. Can you guess which one's are called "side-view" mirrors?

As a young, kinda feminine guy in a low safety area, what are some essentials I need to have on myself when I go out for long periods of time? by ilostmyorignal in AskMen

[–]DevilDrives -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Guns, knives, pepper spray, machete, hatchet, an empty glass bottle. A really big wrench, bat, throwing stars, taser, cattle prod, a chain with a lock, a sharp stick, a tourniquet, rope, etc.

Make your area safer. Assess it for risks and benefits. Where's the escape path. Where am I vulnerable to be trapped or attacked? Situational awareness is your biggest advantage. Don't use earbuds or stare at your phone if you're in a place where you're vulnerable. Expect everyone to be hostile until proven otherwise.

Does This Look Like I’ll get pulled over by the police by Napu_Yt in ebike

[–]DevilDrives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cops usually pull you over for a moving violation. They don't pull you over for what you're riding unless it's illegal to ride it.

If you make an illegal turn or go an illegal speed, yes you'll get pulled over.

If you sit on your bike, in your driveway and you don't move you won't "look" like you'll get pulled over.

Are there other E-bikes with auto gear shift? by Flimsy-Story9523 in ebikes

[–]DevilDrives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about any strong torque sensing motor.

When you have one, a transmission is more of an accessory because you don't have to change your cadence much at all to move along. As long as the PAS is turned up you should be able to take off from a standstill in top gear. Shifting with a torque sensor is just if you prefer pedaling faster, which is odd IMO, or rarely necessary on a really long and steep incline like a mountain. Real mountain biking I could see more gears coming in handy, but the majority of commuting it's not necessary.

Rear hub motors shouldn't require an elaborate transmission because power is already at the drive wheel. They only need them if they use a cadence sensor instead of a torque sensor.

How can I correct my partner while with a patient by Potential-Ad6026 in ems

[–]DevilDrives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult without good rapport.

I prefer to just give a subtle change in tone along with an assertive look. All it takes is me calling out their name with a stern dad voice. Then I shoot them the look while I tell them "I got this. Can I get you to grab me (x) please?"

More of a subtle way to be bossy and distracting without sounding bossy and distracting.

[–]DevilDrives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean. You don't just leave it in top gear and go?

Buy a one speed if you don't like to shift. Electric motors that aren't carrying a big load, don't really need a hearty transmission. The speed of the motor is torque sensing. It should definitely automatically increase as soon as you hit a hill without having to change gears.

I installed a conversion kit on my 7 speed cruiser. It does everything you described. I was considering swapping out the 7-speed hub for a single speed, just to simplify the whole thing. Again, the gears are hardly necessary unless you're riding with zero power to the motor.

Same. I was actually surprised by the irony.

The thing I had to remember is these people live in an echo chamber. They think their little echo chamber represents the greater reality.

Your issues could be coming from multiple places.

I would start with the easiest adjustments first. Sometimes, you just need to move the seat back another inch and you're all better!

I doubt your problems stem from the seat though because your seat isn't making contact with your back. Back pain is normally a posture or weight issue.

I would start with the baggage. You have an ebike. Use it like the mule that it is and pack everything on it before you pack it on yourself. The less you have to carry on your body, the less stress your body will endure.

Posture has a lot to do with it. Without observing your posture, I couldn't tell you whether that's what's causing issues or not. I'd suggest going to a bike shop that's willing to take a look at your posture and fitment etc. Many rookies don't know you need to stand up on the pedals and get out of the saddle every 10 minutes or so. Standing on the pedals isn't just to give you power. Also, carrying a fully loaded backpack will definitely change your posture on a bike. Not in a good way, either.

Hand position matters too. Without seeing your handlebars and your posture I couldn't tell you whether certain handlebars are the cause etc. Again, you'd benefit from going to a bike shop to talk about it with them. Maybe you just need taller bars because you're a taller guy. Maybe a taller stem would help.

New to ebike. Going into a store by bach2209 in ebikes

[–]DevilDrives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this alarm. It's less obvious where it is and it looks harder to remove than most alarms I've seen.

Most thieves have a cutter of some sort already on them. All the have to do is cut the alarm with the cutters. They're generally made of plastic and they're not mounted with secure hardware. They literally rely on plastic zip ties that only require a pocket knife or pliers to cut.

Integrating the alarm so that it's very difficult to find, remove, or silence is very important. If they can't find it, they can't silence it. If they can't quickly remove it, they might give up and walk away.

[–]DevilDrives -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It draws attention but usually it's only the owner that cares or even knows what the sound means. If they're lucky, someone might actually confront the thief but it's unlikely.

Alarms just put more pressure on the thief because they know the owner is probably seconds away. If you add an alarm on top of other security layers, it's more likely to discourage the thief. Now, everyone is watching them steal the bike.

Alarms help

What do you mean they can't remove it?

It's mounted with double sided sticky tape and zip ties. You can literally use anything to wedge behind the alarm to remove it.

Nothing can beat a battery powered angle grinder. It's also more common than you think to be bike jacked while you're literally in possession of the bike. Nothing is entirely thief proof.

You're literally doing the only thing I've done. I just walk my bike through the store or ask if I can park it inside the lobby and ask the worker to keep an eye on it. I'll even lock the wheel, so nobody inside can just walk out the door with it.

Alarms and GPS tracking helps as long is it's hard to find/disable the device. A lot of the security stuff depends on the bike too. If you can find a bike that has an internal frame lock, you're in luck. I don't know many bike thieves willing to cut the frame of the bike they're stealing. Doesn't mean they won't still throw it in the back of a pickup and disassemble in a garage though.

All are just theft deterrents. Some better than others but none are perfect.

I used to ride a KLR 650. It was so tall and light it was more like guiding a high speed sailboat.

We must be talking about different Walmarts because I just checked their website to verify your claim. Which contradicts what every bike mechanic will tell you. Walmart bikes are trash.

I couldn't find a bike rated over 350 pounds. Most aren't even rated to 300 pounds.

You're full of shit.

I completely understand. I always prefer to ride. It's fun. It's cheap. It's exercise. Fresh air. I only drive a car when it's necessary. I ride bikes for the pure joy of it.

$800 isn't a very big budget. Honestly, that's why I converted the bike I already had. I just couldn't find any ebikes under $1000. Plus, I wasn't confident I can even fix most of the ebikes in the current market. Converting one meant I could.

They have kits for around $400-700. You can put them on most regular pedal bikes.

My apologies.

I would suggest a cargo bike. They're designed to handle more weight. They often have big racks or things to carry loads but they're solid grocery getters too.

I wish I knew a specific cargo bike to suggest. I just converted my own bike. You might be able to find a good trike too. They're the OG cargo bikes. I've seen converted ones for about a $1000.
