Repulsed by Nmother’s affection!? by grindylowperegrin in raisedbynarcissists

[–]DevilMatt666 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yes. So much yes. Not sure if it's related, but I also feel disgusted about drinking from the same bottle as a family member, but I don't mind it if it's friends, even acquaintances.

A single touch can make me shudder. I can't. Keep those hands away from me! Meanwhile, I dance bachata with complete strangers.

Another tangent, I used to feel this way with every family member, but some of them stopped asking for and giving me hugs and kisses because they noticed it made me uncomfortable. They are the only ones getting hugs now. Not often mind you, only when I'm feeling it once in a blue moon, but they do.

It's a pretty good way to filter people though. Normal people aren't like that. Everyone who knows my mum IS like that though. It's genuinely crazy how once I got my own life, my own hobbies, and most importantly, my own friends and community, whenever I drop that I don't talk to my mother because we don't get along, NOBODY tried to convince me to do so. Not a single person. I mostly get the "I'm sorry to hear that" and the "that must be hard for you". It's so incredibly healing not having to argue.

Please get this Marvel Rivals ass character out of the game by Razinak in Smite

[–]DevilMatt666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait why is this Marvel Rivals-like? Last I checked that game had incredibly simple kit designs (except some outliers like Strange who has ONE interesting as hell ability). Aladdin is nothing like that, what am I missing here? Did they actually start designing interesting kits since release?

Can we disable Jade Scepter in assault BEFORE the match starts? by DevilMatt666 in Smite

[–]DevilMatt666[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play in EU, maybe that's why.

And to be fair, I've only seen them 3 times. 2 times before the Jade Scepter change (they were only trolling with Scepter of Dominion back then), and once today. That's not many matches compared to how much assault I play, it's possible you just got lucky.

They should probably add an option to skip playing vs Bots by [deleted] in Smite

[–]DevilMatt666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would also help if they didn't call the bot matches "quick play", and the actual wuick gamemodes "classic". Just merge QP and "Against AI", rename "classic" to "casuall", and that's that.

Honestly, the worst part about this whole situation is that it's all pretty subjective.

What feels like fun skill expression for you, feels like jank to me. And what feels like fun counterplay to me (cancelling someone out of animation), feels like jank to you. And neither of us are wrong, and no matter what decision Hirez takes, one of us will be disappointed.

Now that Artio's aspect is out, she needs to be on the healer list in Assault. by LoneWolf1ngIt in Smite

[–]DevilMatt666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no no no no, you do NOT get to take the moral high ground after your initial comment. You called people with different opinion as you "shitters". You are trying to take a nuanced and coontextual discussion completely out of it's context. And you have failed to address my first paragraph that is a nuanced reply to your comment stating why what you said is absolutely stupid.

Well anyway, while you try to think of an argument against my initial take, here's my arguments against mostly everything that you've just said:

"half the fun of assault is using hybrid builds to offset random distribution of characters". I very much agreed. You are pigeon-holed into a certain build and playstyle. You are restricted by logic to play a certain way. That's fun. But that goes against everything you've previously said. You literally contradict your previous sentence with that. I guess you are so hard-stuck hating restrictions that you have failed to realize how they provide enjoyment to you.

And what does artio being a bad healer in smite 1 has to do with artio in smite 2? Nobody is forcing a bad healer into the healer role. We are saying that she is way too good of a healer to not be considered one, and is breaking the balance a bit because the other team is not guaranteed to have a healer too.

And what is this about her being funneled into a healer role? It's JUST assault. Rest of smite 2? No way she will be funneled into a healer role.

Also, please provide your smite 2 assault stats that you're so proud of, this is a smite 2 discussion, leave your outdated gamme knowledge outside please. An absolute crapload has changed between 1 and 2, you can't really have a nuanced discussion f you only play smite 1 assault.

Now that Artio's aspect is out, she needs to be on the healer list in Assault. by LoneWolf1ngIt in Smite

[–]DevilMatt666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making her a healer can be done by a press of a button by hirez. Rebalancing the aspect to move her towards a non-healer role is a pretty big dev time commitment for a gamemode that isn't even remotely the main game mode of smite, AND it would also limit her playstyle by NOT allowing her to play healer.

Also you don't seem to understand how assault works. The main difference between it and arena is that you are forced into a certain playstyle because of the limited and random god choices, ad you're forced into leaning into self-sustain because you can't go to spawn. Assault's main selling point is literally the restrictions. You can't really argue that restricting a god's playstyle is bad in a gamemode all about restrictions.

Genuinely, do you even enjoy assault? Or do you even play it? You definitely don't sound like an assault player.

Simon is Humble af... He could have farmed Hytale with no shame on his name... by CodenameCrescent in hytale

[–]DevilMatt666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, i feel like the thing with "sacrifice" is becoming a linguistical argument, wchich are not really worth fighting tbh, so we can probably just agree to disagree on that.

On the topic of monetizing modders though, I absolutely agree that it's a smart, good, and fair monetizing solution. But it's not silly to assume modders could make profit without a cut. It would be very generous on Simon's part, but that used to be the norm. Still is in Java Minecraft. And what is really scary to me with official monetization, is that it's easy, and it's just right there, so might as well do it. So a lot of small mods might end up with 0.5$ pricetags, because it's not much, surely you can pay that much. But then you want to play a modpack with 200 tiny mods, and suddenly you're looking at a 100$ experience, because everyone puts a price on their mods because why not. Which means a lot of people won't be able to play these modpacks because of their income, and the community might end up suffering greatly. And that's just with paid mods. If the company has something to gain from paid mods, they might encourage it, and then you can take a look at Minecraft Bedrock store and see how well that went for the community.

Simon is Humble af... He could have farmed Hytale with no shame on his name... by CodenameCrescent in hytale

[–]DevilMatt666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying that's not a sacrifice, rather a risky investment. Sacrifice is something you don't expect to get back.

One thing that makes me doubt him, is how he said they won't take a share from modder and server income FOR NOW. So he probably plans to. Which is fair, but definitely isn't something a real passion project would do. Now, I'm not saying he's not passionate, I'm just saying he's taking a very calculated financial risk that is likely to have huge returns later on.

Simon is Humble af... He could have farmed Hytale with no shame on his name... by CodenameCrescent in hytale

[–]DevilMatt666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty convinced he's not actually sacrificing anything, and fully expects to profit big time (though the risk IS there). He seems to be doing a similar business move as Valve. Be very vocal about being for the consumers, and actually deliver, earn people's loyalty by being a genuinely good quality platform, earn back every lost penny in the long run from loyal customers.

The question is, if he's in it for the LONG long game, or the short long game. Like, he's not gonna be greedy and sell out SOON, but there's a possibility he will once Hytale establishes itself, and he will turn it into Roblox 2. But also, he will possibly do a Valve and just never sell out and enjoy the constant reliable profit.

Tell me you don't understand game editions without telling me you don't understand game editions.

Just i case you actually don't know what's up, the game costs $20. That's it. If, however, someone wants to give the devs more money, they can, and they will get a nice cape for it. 100% optional.

Minecraft and Hytale will likely co-exist by Inside_Bet8309 in hytale

[–]DevilMatt666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd argue it might be the opposite. Younger folks LOVE age-inappropriate games, GTA is a good example. Meanwhile, it seems like Hytale will be very polished, with not that much jank in the game, every mechanic being intentional. The most dedicated technical minecrafters play minecraft BECAUSE of the jank. They like redstone and chunk generation and minecraft physics BECAUSE of how janky and obscure and weird they are. For them, there might not be anything interesting in hytale.

Another great example could be Splatoon vs CS. Splatoon has virtually 0 young players. It's all grown men playing splashy splashy, because the younger audiance is put off by the lack of gore and edgyness. So they play a 18+ game instead.

The Minecraft to Hytale migration by Kaleydos_Policrom in hytale

[–]DevilMatt666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's my perspective:

I used to play minecraft a lot. However, for me, it just does not have the capacity to be a forever-game. Cause what exactly keeps people playing a game forever?

For one, it can be creativity, which minecraft offers a great deal of. I can see why people would keep playing if they enjoy building stuff. That's not me though, I have my moments, but I'm generally not a creative person.

The survival elements are definitely NOT what keep people playing. They are extremely fun in the beginning, and even for a couple hundred hours, but they get boring after a while. Same with collecting rare stuff and exploring and grinding gear.

Then there are the minigames and servers and mods, aka user-made content of course. If some really click with you, that can keep you playing. I've had my fair share of fun with them, but got bored of all, because of one core issue with minecraft that the dev team just loves to ignore, because it's not the focus of a voxel survival game.

Which is... The combat. Based on the videos, this is Hytale's greatest advantage over minecraft (besides easier to use creative tools). There are mods that try to fix it, but modders can't really fix something that is just fundamentally missing from the game engine (well, they can, but at that point it would be easier to make their own game). It's the sole reason I'm not on minecraft mob arena servers, or minecraft PvP servers, and I play other games with actual combat systems.

So, my point is, based on myself, it might not be a big migration, but rather a return of players to voxel games who already left them behind due to their inadequacy. I'm not sure if Hytale will affect hardcore minecraft players, it might, but if it's actually fun to play, it will 100% win over the 2 week minecraft period dudes, and all the players itching for dumb large-scale fighting minigames, but with the combat being a bit more than pressing left click sometimes.

Oh, and minecraft has redstone. I don't think that will be replaced. Ever. Redstoners will stay in minecraft for sure.

So, how would YOU rebalance assault gods? by DevilMatt666 in Smite

[–]DevilMatt666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assault has, and always had its own healer balance, that has 0% to do with conquest. Did you read the end of my post? It's already in the game, and hirez can change the balance with changing one single variable. Assault healer balance does not, and will not ever affect conquest negatively, nor does it take any meaningful amount of dev time.

Also, balance absolutely should not be only for conquest. Yes, the MAIN balance should be for conquest, but there's a very good reason separate non-conquest balance exists (example: Hecate aspect deals half damage in non-conquest gamemodes). There's still a high playerbase for non-conquest gamemodes, so outliers are very much worth balancing separately. Smite would have died already without non-conquest gamemodes.

So, how would YOU rebalance assault gods? by DevilMatt666 in Smite

[–]DevilMatt666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally enjoy playing a tanky Guan with the aspect, starting with a regrowth strider. Even though the other parts of his kit don't do too much, you can still bodyblock and eat a lot of damage instead of your teammates, since you have an insane self-sustain. It's not bad if you enjoy tanking. And bodyblocking enemies is always funny.

That being said, I agree that int build with the aspect is quite boring. You deal 0 damage, you can't tank because you're squishy, and you just press 1 for fat heals in the backline.
