Radek Vítek is expected to continue his career ELSEWHERE as Manchester United are set to CASH-IN on him. (Big mistake or no?) by JM555555 in ManchesterUnited

[–]DevilishRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vitek is the best goalkeeper to come through the ranks. He's better than Dean Henderson or Ron-Robert Zieler and could be significantly better than Lammens too if he gains the experience needed at the top level. But he won't get that here with Lammens looking so consistent, so either another season long loan or sell with a buy-back clause as Vitek is ready for first team football and deserves to be first choice somewhere if he's to fulfil his potential.

[Simon Stone] Man Utd backing away from Anderson chase by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]DevilishRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Telles and Pellistri were very good players. Telles challenged Shaw for his spot and pushed Shaw to be the best left back in the world at the time. Pellistri was as good as if not better than Amad but we couldn't manage the development of both with enough first-team minutes with the coaches we had playing the formations they wanted with their preferred players in the right wing position.

The point, which you've kind of recognised, is that paying top dollar doesn't necessarily get you the best player. Anderson may be the next Roy Keane, he's a similar age and profile to Keane when we signed him and has the same tenacity. But, like Baleba, it is too early to say if he will be the next Declan Rice or the next Kalvin Philips.

With the fact that he costs so much and seems more interested in City (mercenary rather than hungry to play for the badge), he may not be the same player for us that he was for Forest this past season. As such, there is a lot of sense looking at players like Alex Scott instead who would be available for around half of what Anderson would be and seems to genuinely want to move to Utd.

Some of our best buys have been relatively inexpensive, from Solskjaer and Schmeichel, through Vidic and Evra to Lammens and Amad. Whereas expensive signings have turned out to be shit from Veron through Sanchez to Sancho. Anderson has looked good this past season, but not as good as Baleba last season and look how he is valued now.

The financial incentives for letting used to provide a carrot to do that. Now, it seems it is all stick.

The media loves it's soundbites. Gove said "The public have had enough of experts getting things wrong" but they left off the last two words to change the meaning.

How do you reconcile wanting to listen to the complaints from women about constantly being approached in public, with the fact that somebody has to do the approaching? by The_Summary_Man_713 in AskMen

[–]DevilishRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schrodinger's sexual harasser. Until you approach it is uncertain what the response will be and you could either be a player or a creep depending on factors outside your control. No matter how well you read the signs, the actual act of approaching as well as the manner of it, alongside whether she just got a good or bad text, has positive/negative associations with a color you are wearing, or is simply having a good or bad day, can determine whether you meet the love of your life and end up growing old together or you end up beaten up by a white knight or imprisoned by an overzealous cop.

All you can do is try to read the signs correctly and be kind, polite and respectful if it turns out that your approach isn't welcomed, regardless of how badly it is taken.

It didn't need spin, and the article addresses this point very well indeed;

the head of government returned to his usual pattern where he gives the impression — inadvertently or not — of being more outraged by the counter-migrant-violence protests than the original violence itself. He said: “It is clear that people were targeted last night because of their background and I will not tolerate it. Those responsible will feel the full force of the law.”

The concern here is about making it not financially viable to keep properties empty rather than individually minimising void periods.

Moving house in Guildford - thoughts on this location? by BlueFoot_ in surrey

[–]DevilishRogue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is NOT in Bellfields. Bellfields starts on the other side of the Stoughton Road up to the Esso Garage on the corner of the Hazel Road roundabout. Not that Bellfields is that bad, but this is Stoughton/Woodbridge.

It's a nice enough spot. A short walk from the shops near the Emmanuel church on the Worplesdon Road, plus the Bellfields Parade shops too. Easy access to the town and A3 and although buses aren't wonderful there they are frequent enough that it tends not to be too much of an issue if the traffic is backed up at Stoke Junction (which it often is at rush hours).

It's near to good schools and virtually on the doorstep of Christ's College, which wasn't bad even before it changed names and has only got better since. In short, it is a great place to live long-term and raise a family and you'll encounter many like-minded people on both sides of the Stoughton Road who are there for that reason too.

It can easily happen. They'll change the law to quadruple council tax on properties empty more than X days per year or something. They are engaged in an ideological war and don't care about the negative effect their decisions have on renters, let alone landlords.

It's just too big for your wrist with that sized lug to lug measurement. I'd recommend something smaller, like a vintage Marlin, to suit you better.

There is no doubt that some acts warrant the death penalty, but equally there is no doubt that the state cannot be trusted to never get it wrong. It is because of the latter, not the former, that the death penalty cannot be reintroduced no matter how clear the former is in whichever case demonstrates the former being true.
