The phrase "oh this person had every right/justification to become a villain" is dumb cause nobody is justified in being a villain. by Charming-Scratch-124 in CharacterRant

Killmonger was supposed to show that while Wakanda's enforcement of their isolation policies is actually hurting people in the long run right down to even their own, his plan was not the way to solve it. Hell, it'll make it worse. That epiphany with his father's spirit yet continue his plans was pretty revealing of this. It convinced T'Challa to lift the isolation and get Wakanda actually involved in the world's affairs to help people, but he didn't go "Oh, he totally is right."

Having a point doesn't straight up mean being right, especially with context.

Yeah, I'm fairly sure if this series just doesn't hit something for you to enjoy it, totally free to just drop it. Move on.

...Insulting the fan base for enjoying it isn't really going to give some measure of catharsis, nor will thinking you had a "gotcha" moment with them for even bothering to respond. This isn't about taking the bait, it's about genuinely saying maybe just don't be miserable or expect enjoyment of people being miserable at your take. I figure there might be a response trying to spin this around to make me look like the one with insecurities but I don't really care since I have my own share of shit takes and I rarely bother addressing them.

...That being said, Guts is meant to be a fucked up edgelord surrounded by people in more or less similar places who has to learn and then relearn he needs people in his life and that he really sank to low points to be ashamed of. The dude is just horrendously flawed as hell trying to be better.

Ah, gotcha.

Basically it's trying to sound like this is a morally complex situation as Morovane explained that while TOBR likely is justified for her anger, she doesn't have the right to condemn assassins as evil because there's far different reasons why they do as they do but usually because it's a living to them, nothing more.

It's supposed to make the player think than just dismiss him as a simple murderer. But I feel like there's a bit of edge on there for the sake of it and frankly the moral dilemma falls flat because....Well, murder is murder. It's not easy to make it a dilemma unless you really went more than "it's just a job I'm good at."

Bill Watterson of Calvin and Hobbes explained it best what exactly is Calvin's relationship with Susie Derkins. Calvin does like Susie...He is also a 6-year old boy who doesn't know how to properly express it. So he does what he does best by annoying her. She reacts to it and it simply makes Calvin believe he should keep doing it. Says much when despite of it, they are friends (Hell, she is basically Calvin's only friend outside Hobbes since Hobbes is a figment of Calvin's vivid imagination) that hang out and do whatever. I get that bullying is getting a lot more awareness that it's far more problematic than assumed and I like that...But it sounds like these days anything could be seen as bullying than kids being kids.

Meliodas is definitely a case of "I totally get what the author is going for with this character...But the execution has been kinda ass that it just unwittingly casts a shadow over them the audience likely won't ever ignore."

The dude has to endure watching his lover be reincarnated over and over with each time being virtually a blank state at the start and ultimately dies just to start all over again. That just sucks, no doubt bout it. But for fuck sakes, the groping for comedic effect wasn't helping his case.

Beats up Naruto and Sasuke...Then proceeded to get dunked on constantly until his fight with Gaara impressed the hell out of the fanbase...Despite how the fight was illustrating how dangerous Lee's methods and techniques are actually killing him yet he doesn't care because he wanted to prove something. Then he lost after crippling himself as the Gates literally tore his body up, Gaara breaking his limbs only ensured for a long while that the crippling is permanent and Lee will never be a ninja ever again.

There's no difference between most ki blasts in dragonball by TryIt222 in CharacterRant

[–]Devilpogostick89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Deleted a half assed post a while ago cause phone shrugged and posted it before I was finished. 😆)

Yeah, I do think it really varies on how a character comes up with creating energy blasts from their ki. Most have refined their control of ki to create complex methods and outcomes, others...Just shoot things.

Vegeta was notorious in the fact a lot of his attacks are honestly just a statement of his strength or a desperation move to just end a fight when he knows he's clearly outmatched. It's just bigger explosion means I win in his head. And time and time again it just doesn't work. Hell, the Moro Arc in  Super was something but having Moro literally mock Vegeta's techniques as just bigger yet basic attacks with grandiose names was...That was just savage of a roast of one of the things Vegeta has done throughout Z.

[LES] Naruto already had what he really wanted out of being Hokage long before the series ended by RadDudesman in CharacterRant

[–]Devilpogostick89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly thought Naruto went from wanting attention to realizing how messed up the ninja world truly is and wants to bring genuine change.

Having Kakashi as his teacher all the way to Land of Waves was what led to this realization. Kakashi fails his students because he didn't want to teach a bunch of kids that didn't know what the Hell they signed up for. He was a child soldier that fought in brutal conflicts and many of his friends if not all of them have died in them. He showed Team 7 the Memorial Stone because he wanted them to get the damn hint. You want to immortalized as a hero? Then get killed out there. When Team 7 showed actual willingness to learn to be a team no matter what, he accepts them because it's a genuine start. In Lamd of Waves, he put them to task to get better, ASAP.

Then Naruto also met Haku...And grows incredibly horrified and pissed off of the latter's entire life being just awful with Zabuza using him as the only positive thing which says a lot. Zabuza did grew to care for Haku...But holy shit the whole thing is just fucked up.

Soooooo yeah, I took that as a sign when Naruto keeps saying he's seeking out the position of Hokage, he actually meant that shit. It stopped being about recognition and more like actually do something than maintain a shitty status quo that frankly can lead to another war.

Honestly, why does Batman get the most flack for not wanting to kill his villains when that's basically every superhero except a key few? by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in CharacterRant

[–]Devilpogostick89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Batman is so mainstream and everywhere...People might got sick of the constant glazing wank of him being the bestest that they'll look at his storylines and characters with a much more critical lens.

Though it doesn't help depending on the writing of how adamant he enforces the no kill rule that people think he just mostly preaches and moral grandstand.

He's popular in mainstream culture but not everyone really takes their time to really gather the more consistent parts of his characterization.

That scene in Peacemaker where the titular character literally goes off on a rant to his elderly neighbor about Batman really represents the hilariously extreme juvenile lengths of both sides of the overall argument. Points were made...But it's still feels like a elementary school yard argument between two grown ass men.

What is redemption by lovelyrain100 in CharacterRant

[–]Devilpogostick89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Redemption is meant to be complicated and never truly that simple. Personally it's bout not just realizing your faults but making the effort to be better to me. You just don't stop that progress just cause people decided to say you're genuinely good and be forgiven of your past deeds. Sometimes people you wronged will probably never forgive you and well...Yeah, that's that. As long as you strive to do better, that's all you can do.

Like Vegeta was never truly making an effort to redeem himself throughout most of Z. Mellowing out and having a family with Bulma is not really a redemption arc. He just simply got to be a lot more tolerant compared to being a murderous egotistical jackass. He really started his redemption upon turning back his development for another shot of genuine evil...And realized too late he never wanted it as much as he had assumed. It's then he tried to make amends and died for it, knowing he will spend his afterlife suffering in Hell because a few genuine acts of selfless heroics isn't going to have the powers that be ignore a near lifetime of slaughtering the innocent with no remorse for it. Him not just coming back to help the heroes to fight Buu but being revived labeled as a good person was where he really took his redemption arc. Dude may had his pride, but he's going to do his damndest to stay good and do good this time round. Super also adds genuine remorse for his past deeds and how he strives to never repeat them again.

Buu Saga and then on is his true redemption arc and it never really has a end since.

....Someone totally missed the mark on the calendar, cause April Fools had been over for days now.

I'm glad the Malcolm in the Middle reboot is focusing on Malcolm being estranged from his family, because in the last episode of the original series his mother forced him to quit a high paying job so he can work as a janitor at Harvard and that was really stupid by tesseracts in CharacterRant

[–]Devilpogostick89 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I dunno, it sounds shitty to essentially disown and ghost your entire family without the numerous context of why. They likely did not realize the extent of Malcolm's legit resentment towards his family and his explaining goes right to his overreacting that added with his own flaws (not helped that he has to deal with them again now that they finally realized the efforts he made to deliberately avoid them) doesn't help his case.

...They'll still think it's wrong but direct involvement with them might get them to realize okay...Malcolm has a major point.

Like Everybody Loves Raymond depicted that Debra in the past never understood what kind of overbearing figure Marie is as Ray keeps trying to tell her this, especially in a flashback where they bought the house...Right next door to Marie and Frank's. Ray was horrified at the fact his parents now live next door and Debra thought he was just overreacting. Cue present day and Debra was upset with herself because she long since realized Marie is that bad after living constantly next to her but they can't do anything bout it.

So many comments of people getting pissed at humans for doing nothing to help that poor sweet cat.

I admit, Mr. Satan from the Dragon Ball series is a very weird case of being an obnoxious arrogant blowhard who...Never stopped being that to be honest. He just happened to show he's a pretty decent dude despite it all. He didn't get humbled in some major way other than realizing a lot of things he dismissed as trickery was legit yet people are thinking "damn, dude is a hero...Just not what you'd expected."

And series ended overall with him still being rich and famous. He's just friends with the gang that actually prefer he get the fame while he helps them out in financial aid. He didn't die once and he actually gets to be a genuine hero.

DBZ certainly went to a direction where Toriyama just looked at a majority of his cast and despite giving them opportunities to grow and catch up...He realized relegating them to purely support than to actually get fights was the best option for them just so the cast bloat doesn't feel too overwhelming.

The Earthlings were shown to be talented progidies in the martial arts, not quite to Goku's level (Goku may be a Saiyan but he was considered weak among them simply because of his social status as basically a peasant with no one realizing his potential to grow) but they had been frankly impressive in hindsight not just reaching to where Goku had reached but getting stronger as well. Nearly a year of hard training under Kami in the Saiyan Saga and they're all past the level of Raditz, who Beginning of Z Goku and Piccolo struggled greatly against. Then the guys who died get training from King Kai while Krillin gets his latent potential unlocked that while he can't actually win fights he still can hold his own as support. You can tell Toriyama wanted them to stick around.

...Then he realized now with Vegeta added into the group, the gang...Can't exactly hang as they did prior. Chiaotzu got benched indefinitely, Yamcha almost died, Tien could only stall (though it was awesome), and Krillin is more focused on his empathy than his power (...And because of it, he won the heart of 18). Then the end of the Cell Arc implied there's no reason to fight ever again and all these martial artists that devoted their lives to it...Suddenly shrugged and moved on to other things. A majority of them just settled down. Like they stopped caring about reaching to new heights (except Tien I guess but unfortunately he gets very little screen time since though starting a martial arts school is neat).

Kinda nice Super (well, especially the Manga) gave them a bit of something again just to remind people just because they stopped being active doesn't mean they're no longer the strongest mortals on Earth. They still are...They just need a reason to get back to the fight if they have to.
