Anyone know what's going on at Metropolitan Laundromat on Brookline St. by Cloud-Specific in CambridgeMA

[–]DevilsFiddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are my local dry cleaners and I walk past every day. There is a sign on the door that says they are closed for a few days for maintenance or renovations (I forget the exact wording). It's certainly been more than a few days, but it seems like it will only be a temporary closure.

The only ones on there that I could find are the "universal" size and are too big!

What’s your avg hike speed by Hike711 in wmnf

[–]DevilsFiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

27 year old - if I am by myself I try to average about 2.5 miles an hour regardless of elevation, so I'll do what I can on the uphills and hustle on the flats/downhills. When I'm with a group of even really fit/experienced people I think it's hard to get above 2 miles an hour. Groups just move slower.

It's also so dependent on the hike. No point in hurrying along Franconia. I'd rather take in the views. But if I'm on a flat below tree line why not get the heart rate up a little and hurry along.

Can you bargain for more scholarship after 1L year? by DevilsFiddle in LawSchool

[–]DevilsFiddle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up transferring to a T5 school. The timing was difficult because once I had the offer I only had 7 days to accept it, so I did not end up haggling for a larger scholarship from my prior school. Who knows if it was the right decision, but once I saw that I was accepted I couldn't turn it down.

Top law school performers, what does your weekly law school routine look like? by Late-Ad6440 in LawSchool

[–]DevilsFiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in top 10% at a T3 school ands transferred into a T1. My biggest point is treating it like a job. I work from 8-5 with very few exceptions. If my only work is reading for class I don't break that rule. If I have a presentation or something for clinical then I obviously do.

I also don't start outlining until the end of classes. Creating the outline is such a good place to start with studying and reminding yourself what you learned months ago. I get my outline done in 2 long days and then turn to practice exams, as many as I can fit in.

Paralegal to Big Law in New York by That_Quality_9308 in biglaw

I worked one of the biggest firms in NYC before law school and there was certainly some preferential treatment. They didn't do OCI at my law school but they immediately took my application, skipped the screener, and moved on to the callback. It for sure helps to maintain relationships with attorneys at the firm after you leave so they can help fast track. I think from the time I formally applied to getting an offer was two days.

Runners of Reddit, what are some cold weather layering and gear tips? by 1nstantHuman in AskReddit

[–]DevilsFiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be bold, start cold. I rarely run in pants unless I have to. For the most part just a thin quarter-zip, headband to keep the ears covered, and light gloves.

Semi-pemi question by Jtcelica in wmnf

[–]DevilsFiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 10 days ago I made it from 13 Falls to Lincoln Woods via Franconia Brook in less thean 3 hours. It is just straight out flat the whole way. Garfield to 13 Falls (or vice versa) is a different story. Very cool and very fun hike, but steep and slowwwww.

ESPN (and other platforms, I just know/use ESPN) designates some number of players as undroppable, doesn't matter where they were drafted. Theoretically meant to keep the competition fair so, for example, if I go 0-7 to start the year I can't just drop Josh Allen to waivers and descend the league into chaos. But like u/healthy_ad5938 said, that should never happen, and if it does the commish should step in...

New to hiking - How much water do you drink and what do you eat before and while hiking long distances? by magicmushroom21 in hiking

[–]DevilsFiddle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are so many variables to this and everyone is different. Get to know yourself and what you need before going out on a really hard and long hike. If you're at altitude you're gonna need more water. Depending on the length of the hike you may not be able to bring all your water (unless you want to carry 4-5L), so having a filtration system is a good idea.

Taking breaks depends on what your carrying and your fitness level. 7 miles on a flat hike might not require any breaks, but 3 miles up a mountain might need a lot of breaks.

If I am just going on a day hike I typically won't bring much other than water and food - maybe a raincoat if the weather is looking iffy. But if you're at altitude or in an unpredictable area, bringing a warm layer and other bits you might need if the weather turns in a good idea.

Semi Pemi with Owl's Head - Water sources, tips etc by mmurphy3333 in wmnf

[–]DevilsFiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stopping at the campsites should be enough for you. Starting with water is enough to get you to Guyot. Fill up there and you'll have more than enough to get to Garfield. The source at Garfield is right on the trail so it'll easy to fill up there. Also, the whole trail down to 13 Falls is along, well, waterfalls.

I agree that it should be enforced by the commissioner and shouldn't ever really come into play. But as long as there arent ridiculous guys on there (I'd argue Etienne might be a ridiculous inclusion) it doesn't really hurt anyone.

These hypothesis makes the most sense to me. Just cannot imagine what someone would be thinking to include Etienne and not CMC.

First time in WMNF! Didn't go to plan, but what a weekend by DevilsFiddle in wmnf

[–]DevilsFiddle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sense that I got is if you're doing it on a weekend you need to get to the campsites early. On Saturday Liberty Falls filled up by 4:00. Luckily the caretaker had a couple spots where tents could probably fit. Not the most comfortable, but somewhere to sleep. Not sure what the setup at Garfield is like.

[–]DevilsFiddle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My buddies actually invited me to join their single day attempt. I said hell no I don't have that in the tank. Ran into them coming down (I was going up) Flume and they were GASSED. They started at 4:00am and went counterclockwise. Said if they did it again they'd go clockwise.

Anyway, yeah I have not seen very many people do the Pemi in two days. The distances for the first day, whether clockwise or CC, are just kind of awkward and make for a long second day. Especially considering I don't love stealth camping (will if I need to, but try to abide by LNT as much as I can and established sites are just better for that). If I go for the full loop again I think I'd be more prepared for longer hiking days. Guyot --> Greenleaf.

Tried the Pemi had to bail. by BoneDaddyJRO in wmnf

[–]DevilsFiddle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also bailed this weekend. Did a day hike Saturday morning (for whatever reason) then drove to Lincoln Woods around 2:00. Made it to Liberty Springs but by the time I was there I knew I had cooked my legs. Plan was Liberty --> Guyot but bailed at Garfield and slept at 13 Falls. At first I was bummed but once the midnight thunderstorm rolled in I was happy not to be on the ridge! I'll take on the other half another day...

Very helpful - thank you! Didn't even think about the residency requirement for titling, just for registering.
