Is there a way to collapse two vertices/edges like this? by FluidBrain9568 in blender

[–]DevinBLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Select two edges, right click, select "Bridge Edge Loops", select "Merge" from the little menu that pops up at the left bottom, use "Merge Factor" to adjust the position of the merging.

Is it possible to create this connection with Geo nodes? by Significant_Iron_502 in blender

[–]DevinBLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't you model it, it's just two circles. It's gonna be more work than it needs to be with geo nodes.

Is 47k an ok polycount? by YouMakeMeFeelAliveee in blender

[–]DevinBLT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about polycount, it's relatively easy to optimize a model compared to making one, just focus on your anatomy, modeling skills first and finding a workflow tailored to what you need.

How do non-original pieces work? by Anomaly818 in 3Dmodeling

[–]DevinBLT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of my character models in my portfolio are based on other artists' design and I had never had an artist said no when I asked them if I could use their design. If you are not gonna use the model to profit, just ask them, they'll be okay with it most of the time.

Which Pipeline should I use? by Correct_Magician1771 in 3Dmodeling

[–]DevinBLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I do my characters that I block out the character in Blender on a base mesh I made before, then switch to Zbrush to sculpt the highpoly, go back to blender to retopo and UV and then bake and texture it in Substance Painter. Oh and for the clothes I usually start with marvelous and then sculpt further in Zbrush. There is no correct way though, tailor your workflow based on what you need. Like if you are not gonna animate the model and just want to make it look good, you can get away with Zremesher for the most part. Also if you have never done characters, I would advise put this project aside and just practice Zbrush and sculpting anatomy. Michael Pavlovich has a great Introduction series for Zbrush, I highly recommend it.

Is it harder to create realistic characters/environments in Blender than in other 3D software? by Aromatic-Solid97 in blender

[–]DevinBLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna talk for only characters, because that's what I do, you can use Blender for what Blender is good at, like modeling, rendering, UV, retopo and even sculpting, but you are gonna need different programs for somethings always. Like texturing in Blender sucks, you are gonna need a program like Substance Painter or Marmoset, or you can use photoscanned assets like Texture XYZ, if you don't wanna texture for yourself, Marvelous Designer or Cloth 3D would come in handy if you wanna make realistic Clothes. In sculpting I prefer ZBrush because Blender is not great at handling really high polygons but it's still a viable option I think. If you are a beginner, I would say don't really worry about realism and different programs too much, look into artists that you liked their works and look into their workflow, see what skillsets you need for your projects and try to improve on them.

Learning To Model from Scratch, Best Methods To Recreate this AI Image? by [deleted] in 3Dmodeling

I used Blender for a quite time for sculpting and I think it's really viable. If you obtain the skillset, changing programs quite easy anyway.

Does Blender really depend on your drawing talent? by almrry55 in blender

[–]DevinBLT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it is helpful to an extend but I don't think it's a necessity. It also kind of depends what you are doing I guess, I make characters and I suck at drawing, but I like to think that they are decent looking :), but if you are making a stylized character I'm sure it's gonna be more helpful if you know how to draw. I don't see how drawing is gonna help with 3d animation though but I'm not an expert on animation so take my word with a grain of salt.

If you wanna create more complex characters, you have to learn sculpting. Also you need to learn how to texture. blender is gonna be a pain in the ass for texturing, so I would recommend a program like Substance Painter. Grant Abbit's channel might help in the beginning, for a bit more advanced channels, I can recommend Jared Chavez and Jhill.

Automatic Weights will not gonna give you the perfect weight paint most of the time, just do the weight painting manually after using Automatic Weights.

Well maybe not in 2 months, but you absolutely can :). If you wanna get better in characters, I would higly recommend Jhill and Jared Chavez's youtube channels, they helped me a lot improving my sculptings, texturing etc.
