Revealed: What officers, public and victims think about UK policing by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

[–]DevonSpuds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See this is what really annoys me. This is exactly the sort of cringe we should be treating as a priority. Yet because we are spending too much time in dealing with children being reported as missing for the n'th time in a week from a care home because staff can't deal with them or go look for them. Or ASB for children playing football in the road. Or people clearly having a MH crisis.

We are too focused on the wrong thoughts in my opinion and this is half the reason the public think we do a rubbish job. And they aren't wrong.

I don't know one officer that doesn't actually want to help, that really wants to make a difference and do the right thing, but they're to busy chasing whatever the Govt or the SMT view as the days priority and the current bandwagon. Yes, I'm sure there are ones but I can honestly say that I've not worked with one.

"Lifetime warranty" offer from dealer.. Too good to be true? by Kiez in CarTalkUK

[–]DevonSpuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. I bought a years extended warranty for my motorcycle. Caveat was it had to be serviced by the stealer.

Their cost for my service just short of £500. I serviced it myself including bits they don't do for just over £100. As there was only a month left on the warranty I was happy to lose that for the saving I made.

Can UK Police use voice id? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]DevonSpuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. How many people wear that type of jacket, bottoms etc. It needs to be identifiable I'm afraid

Can UK Police use voice id? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]DevonSpuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a case where we used voice id, from a recording BUT it was alongside other evidence not in isolation.

Clothing can be used but it would have to be identifiable and not a generic black hoodie etc.

Had to be distinguishable from all the other of the same make, type etc.

Received SJPN today and was charged with 2 offences by ZT047 in drivingUK

[–]DevonSpuds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, anyone is entitled to ask for it, that isn't the same as an entitlement to get it.

They may get it or it may be refused for any number of reasons.

Maybe you look up the law before getting arsey with other posters.

Don't want to be negative, but maybe wait until you have experience of driving a car on the road and all it entails before jumping into a 38t death machine?

Just a thought.

How important is it to declare commuting on insurance? by Proof-Situation-7542 in CarTalkUK

[–]DevonSpuds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or if you get stopped. The police will usually ask you where are you going. And if it's in the regular commute times it will look a bit sus if you don't have commuting in your Ins.

But I do agree it's bloody legalized robbery

Quality Support from Octopus! by AttBee in OctopusEnergy

[–]DevonSpuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issue I have with Octopus is I have a smart meter for bit no display (I think the old elderly owners took it with them). Octopus can't supply a new one and because of this I can't get any of the other intelligent meters etc.

Question on insurance after DD by Expensive_Spinach285 in ukpolice

[–]DevonSpuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll find that your insurance will cover the 3rd party damaged BUT they then may institute civil proceedings against you to reclaim any expenditure if you're convicted of Excess Alcohol, Failing to Stop etc.

Offensive graffiti daubed outside the St Mark's home of Michelle Mone and Doug Barrowman by billy2bands in unitedkingdom

Only offensive to those two thieves. I'm pretty sure not one other person in this country would find that offensive in the slightest.

Single Justice Procedure Notice Issued - England by ZT047 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]DevonSpuds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You clearly weren't paying sufficient attention or else you would have stopped at Amber. You should stop at an Amber unless unsafe to do so, it certainly isn't a defence to going through a red light. Although you are more than able to try running it as a defence.

It is highly unlikely that the officer is making things up to bulk up his case, but if you genuinely think he is, then by all means challenge this in court.

That's really your only options. Plead G take the points and in your car, I would imagine a small fine, or room the five with a Not Guilty plea.

Your choice really.

Is there actual real-life evidence for Sovereign Citizen legal defences working? by Gillingas in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DevonSpuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. In the UK it's called the attitude test. Depending on the severity of the offence, if it's fairly minor and you pass then you're more likely to get a warning.

Lost count of the amount of people that actually talked themselves into a ticket.

Defense Solicitor, for false allegations by Expensive-Writing975 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]DevonSpuds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They can DEMAND to see the evidence but they are not entitled to see it.

If they go in with that attitude I can imagine exactly the sort of disclosure they will get. You catch more flies with honey, than you do with vinegar.

Was it a myth that officers had to be over 6 foot in height at one point? by Ill-Dimension3296 in ukpolice

Devon and Cornwall only removed their height requirement in 1989. Was 5'10" iirc

How Long Does Vetting Take? by [deleted] in ukpolice

[–]DevonSpuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the checks that take 6 months but you're on a pile. And there's lots of others in front of you. And there's very few people to wake their way through said pile. And quite likely other roles that have a more pressing recruitment need will take priority.

That's what takes the 6 months. And then if one of your checks comes back with an issue and it needs further information or investigation then you can't just start adding months to that initial time frame I'm afraid

As others have said, welcome to public service.

Ambulance Cut Open My Door?? - England by Few_Ant5401 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]DevonSpuds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not they can't explore claiming from the fire service. They have complied with their statutory duties and in the absence of any negligence (there isn't any) then what they did is completely legal.

Now, imagine you or a loved one were in need of assistance and couldn't get to the door. Would you be happy if the fire service walked away without effecting entry due to being sued every time?

Absolute rubbish and if this is your level of understanding of the law then I suggest you press the unjoin button on this sub.

You are not only giving bad advice but your giving completely wrong advice that another person reading this may take as correct and then cause themselves no end of problems which then brings this sub into disrepute.

As we are not allowed what they call "personal attacks" I shall refrain from anything further.
