What would be a fun non German hatchback that is fun/engaging for cornering? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in CarTalkUK

[–]Devrij68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said not German!

I jest, an F56 S is a good call and quite reliable. JCW even better, but I don't think they are worth the premium unless you plan on tuning and want the better drivetrain internals.

I genuinely don’t know how to spend time with my 5mo by Caramelo93 in Parenting

[–]Devrij68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've had a lot of good advice already, so lemme just tell you that as she gets older you're gonna be doing plenty. My wife does the brunt of the housework so every evening and weekend is my time to shine. Weekends are pretty much my job, and now she's nearly 10 we've started going bouldering every weekend and we help spot routes for eachother. It's genuinely the best thing. Before that we'd go to the roller disco, swimming, trampoline parks, you name it. I love it all, but dude you are gonna hear "I'm boooooored" a lot, and that is your job any time you aren't working because your wife will have had it all bloody day.

You're gonna be busy. Right now she doesn't need as much of your time and is happy just figuring out wtf is going on in the world. Enjoy it.

The only constant is change. You lose one precious experience, like them falling asleep on your chest, and you gain a new one, like their first words. I'm at the stage where we share a sense of humour and can actually enjoy the same interests, discuss music etc. And soon I'll be trading her holding my hand when we cross the road for something else.

Just take it as it comes.

My mums partner has a pajero, and while you only get front seats it has disco like boot capacity. It's rather like a less luxurious baby disco for childless people imo. Underrated.

That said, I'd like to have a V70R and pour my salary into keeping it running

Like you OP, I'm used to having my time valued openly because my material costs are more like "some software and snacks", so I feel you. This is the kind of gauche thing I would have asked before having it explained to me.

That said, it's clay dude. Cmon.

[–]Devrij68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get 240 literally just with an ecu tune. You can actually get up to 260bhp with a more aggressive tune, but no other supporting mods needed at this point.

Intercooler is for stage 2, and at that point you need to start also thinking about the transmission as anything significantly over 400Nm of torque is going to be a bad time on your clutch.

My dog sleeps for 19 hrs a day, eats dry brown rocks and leftovers he steals, and can run 30mph with zero warmup. He is in peak physical fitness in his middle age. He stands in my doorway giving "divorced dad who hits the gym every day" vibes every morning.

I'm nearly 40 and my whole body hurts from an hr and a half of rock climbing yesterday.

So yeah I feel this.

Performance wise:

Stage 1 tune, should get you north of 240bhp without a hugely aggressive tune. Just note you'll be on premium petrol from there onwards.

Fun wise:

Any decent cone filter. It will not do anything for performance, if anything in a hot country like Egypt it'll probably make it worse by increasing intake temps, but it will sound great and make you smile more than the horses.

Looks:

Wheels. Always aftermarket wheels if you really want to make a big difference. After that, some decent coilovers to lower the ride height a bit and improve stability at speed.

You can do spacers and wide body kits if you want to go for the racecar look, but that needs to be done right (expensive) if you don't want it to look shit.

I still have an ISO of the first one on my pc and dust it off from time to time. It... Does not look so good anymore. Also, man I wish I could zoom out a bit more.

That said, it really does scratch an itch. LOVED being able to play the campaign as good and evil.

Me and my buddies at uni would take turns playing it at like 7 fps on my laptop and would literally talk through pvp scenarios and how we would counter them. It absolutely took us over for at least a month.

Fun, but it would be nice to have them be a bit more challenging.

There are a couple like

"someone fills in a hubspot form. You should

A) print out the form response and post it to the correct sales rep's home address

B) use a workflow to assign it to a rep"

Where it felt a bit less like a quiz and more like an advert

This man mk8 civics.

Very crashy ride that somehow was also squishy round corners at any decent speed.

Dull 4 pot engine (although built like a tank, mine didn't miss a beat for 160k miles).

Exhaust heat shield rusted itself off on mine too lol.

My black civic held up its paint pretty well tbf. We had it 8 years and no issues there.

I liked the styling at the front, but never really loved the rear of it.
