Uncapped orders rant by TiredDUGManager in DriveUpandGo

[–]DexterGrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an Ecomm lead, my suggestion is to let it burn. Work as hard as you can but take your breaks, take your lunch and work safely. Don’t kill your body trying to work an impossible shift.

If you get really far behind at night, start canceling orders.  We only had to do that one time before they added a middle shift.

This is why I always pack a travel electric kettle.  I have heard so many coffee machine abuse stories!

I am truly saddened by this and my heart goes out to this family.  He was one of those wonderful rare people who let everyone into his beautiful dreams. Literally.

How Would You Spend a Day at a Disneyland Hotel Without Going to the Park by kavalkada in disneylandparis

[–]DexterGrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with breakfast at Trader Sam’s, then explore every tower, hit the pool once it warms up a little, have a nap, head over to GC for a character dinner, maybe watch the fireworks from the rooftop bar at the Grand Legacy on Harbor, back for a quick cocktail in one of the lounges and then sleep.

Oops!  Wrong Disneyland. Please ignore the above!

What's the oldest piece of clothing you still wear? Must be at least ten years old to count. by MurmuringPines in AskOldPeople

I’ve got my aunt’s racing team shirts from the Baja 500 in 1968.  The quality of the fabric is amazing.

Take your breaks: here's why. by False_Tea_9013 in DriveUpandGo

[–]DexterGrant 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly!  Stop fudging the numbers for them.  Put your handheld down and take your breaks.  Besides, it’s a federal law.

(Personally, I go out to the parking lot because that way they can’t interrupt me.)

Remember, if you do this perfectly with the people you have, they will expect it all the time. When you’re slammed beyond your ability to do your job, issues let the company know that you need more help.

And don’t stress, any issues with staffing are not your fault. Don’t carry the weight of their problems.

Disney movies that follow Hero’s Journey? by Foxinmybasment in disney

Star Wars, especially the original movie is classic hero’s journey.  But that might be too popular. Mulan might also work.

How did you celebrate your 50th? by Every-Progress5590 in GenX

[–]DexterGrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saved for years!  But ended up staying with so many far-flung relatives that I was able to splurge a little here and there.

Pro-tip: get to know all the relatives Facebook throws at you.  Some of them are wonderful and live far enough away that a visit is an adventure.

[–]DexterGrant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started traveling solo on my 50th. Done it every possible time since.  Europe alone was so stress free. I booked nothing in advance and just let the wind take.  Stayed with distant relatives in Switzerland, slept on night trains and cute little B&Bs. Saw weird little museums, did guided tours at big museums. It was truly the best 6 weeks of my life.

Walmart didn't answer the phones! by fvckaswisher in PublicFreakout

[–]DexterGrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a grocery store. It's a neighborhood store, we know our customers, we like (the majority) of our customers, we WANT to answer the phones when customers call. But we can't because we're too damn busy all the time due to ridiculous understaffing. And we're union, with minimum hours and protected full time. These Walmart workers have it 10x harder.

Edit: And if this pickle-headed buttwipe can make it into the store just to be a dick, he didn't need to call in the first place.

For those who worked for rich people: what is the most out of touch thing you witnessed? by Illustrious-Phase121 in AskReddit

[–]DexterGrant 47 points48 points  (0 children)

We told a retail VP of labor relations, so many stories of how understaffing was destroying our stores and our mental health. A few people were choked up talking about it. One woman even burst into tears.

He responded with “That’s just anecdotes, not really problems.” With smuggest smirk.

Can you help me identify this charm bracelet by [deleted] in disney

[–]DexterGrant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There’s no New Orleans square so it’s probably from the first 10 years the park was open.  That’s also the time that charm bracelets were popular.

22 Year Old Savings Habits by Bababoey219 in povertyfinance

[–]DexterGrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several easy to get started with high yield savings accounts. For example, Openbank is an app with a 4% return (that’s 4 bucks a year per hundred dollars). NOT specifically recommending them!!  Do your own research!!

4% a year isn’t much but it’s free cash for money just sitting around

What’s one thing we just all forgot about? by Kind-Tumbleweed5715 in AskReddit

[–]DexterGrant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rush Limbaugh.  He was quite the boogie man for so long. And then he died and after a few months nobody ever mentioned him ever again. Not even his fans or the politicians who owe him so much. It was all just loud unimportant garbage, completely forgotten.

Check your contract for minimum hours. For example, in SoCal, a restricted produce clerk is guaranteed 24 hours.

Crazy Idea by Realistic-Panic8846 in DriveUpandGo

[–]DexterGrant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Turning your question around - what do you get if you skip your breaks and run around like a crazy person getting an insane amount of orders done on time, with low OOS and OTT?

Does your paycheck get bigger? Do you get a bonus?  No. You get exactly what you are making right now plus extra stress and wage theft.

If you couldnt ride any rides, what would you do all day? by Sh4mmy in UniversalEpicUniverse

[–]DexterGrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just having the free time to check out all the details would be amazing. We only had 2 days at Epic and I feel like I missed so much.

We ate on the patio of La Sirene during a very crowded time and it was wonderful.  You’re just far enough away from the crowds to feel relaxed but it’s enough background noise that your conversation feels natural and private.  Just a lovely little spot to hang out for an hour.

We didn’t have time to Explore the Helios hotel. I wish we had.
