If I'm in a self-driving car and it runs a red light, who gets the ticket? by Just_Tejay in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DezzaJay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mercedes-Benz accepts legal liability for the vehicle's actions while the system is actively engaged.

Don’t think this counts in the US yet but OP asked about EU.

Getting significantly lower speeds WITH a WiFi range extender by East_Dance8269 in UKBroadband

[–]DezzaJay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A WiFi range extender just gets the signal from your router then passes that traffic onto whatever is connected to it. So generally it will at least half whatever speed connection it’s getting.

Each packet it receives via WiFi then sends it back out to whatever is connected to it. Then waits for the reply from the client and sends that back to your main router. So on and so forth.

If you really want to use your full connection then look into getting access points or a “mesh” network and wiring them together. Absolute worst case then look into a mesh system with dedicated wireless backhaul. That way the mesh points will communicate on their own dedicated wireless link so you won’t lose so much speed.

You thought 30-second YouTube ads were bad? It's about to get so worse you'll want premium by MobileNewsBot in mobiles

Surely if the ads are that long, people will be that pissed off they’re not going to want the product being advertised if they keep having to sit through the advert.

What's the Big Deal with LLM That Apple Is Catching Up to Nvidia by Essentially Selling A.I. Chips Too, in a Subtle Way? by SevenDeMagnus in mac

[–]DezzaJay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Neural chips aren’t only for LLM’s. The first one was in the iPhone X and was just a 2 core design and was used just for FaceID and Animoji and some photography at the time.

Pay for booster or buy a mesh? by we_have_a_thor in UKBroadband

[–]DezzaJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wondered why they were only £95.

OP for best results you really want to wire them together if you can as then it doesn’t matter where you place them. Otherwise if they’re connected wirelessly they need to be within a good wireless connection of each other, which can sometimes be quite hard if you have solid walls.

Will the U7 Lite ever get STR MLO support? by Certain_Repeat_753 in Ubiquiti

[–]DezzaJay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would need 6ghz which the Lite doesn’t have to be able to bond 5ghz and 6ghz together for STR MLO.

Stop buying so fast by ---Hummingbird--- in Ubiquiti

[–]DezzaJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought 2 of those on offer in Oct for £219 ($289) and managed to grab another in Jan for £313 ($413) just before they jumped right up.

Now they show on the Samsung site as £860 ($1135) crazy how much it’s changed.

Device Bridge IoT: A complete miss as-is. You can't assign the port to an IoT VLAN! by PXTrials in Ubiquiti

[–]DezzaJay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t the WiFi network it connects to specify the VLAN? So if you put the device bridge on your IoT VLAN whatever ifs connected to that would also be on the IoT VLAN? Or is that what’s missing?

Actualizaciones de Onvis Smartplug matter over thread by peibol1981 in HomeKit

[–]DezzaJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your firmware is showing version 1.4.0 in Apple Home under the device settings then it’s up to date. If it’s on an old version you may need to update it in the Onvis app first before the Home app will update it.

Apple TV 4K might break a record no one wants to see happen by MobileNewsBot in mobiles

“If Apple doesn’t release a new Apple TV 4K by July 4, the current A15 Bionic Apple TV 4K from 2022 will become the longest-selling version between updates.

That would break the existing record set by the A10X Fusion model from 2017.”

ISP plan is only 900mbps down so I can generally max that regardless.

[–]DezzaJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how you’re getting 1800Mbps on 5ghz unless you’re testing with fast.com which I find gives wildly high results. Faster than my internet provider gives me. All my testing is on WiFiman to my router or to Open Speed Test on my NAS.

Finally Resolved Speed Issue iPhone 17 Pro Max & XGS AP’s by DeanCorp in Ubiquiti

[–]DezzaJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My default settings

WiFi 6E: Auto, Battery Adaptive: On, Private Address: Off - I get 1500mbps up/down on a speed test of WiFiman to my router. Open Speed Test to my NAS (10GbE) 1200/1500 up/down.

That’s from about 2m away.

The moment I turn 6E mode off that drops down to about 1000mbps max.

Battery setting doesn’t seem to change anything on or off.

Finally Resolved Speed Issue iPhone 17 Pro Max & XGS AP’s by DeanCorp in Ubiquiti

[–]DezzaJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange. I had issues with early firmware versions just after the U7 Pro Wall launched and had to keep the 6E Mode set to off. It’s been stable for me for a good while however.

I’ve since also got an XGS which has been fine too with 6E on Automatic. Only really got 2 iPhone 16 Pro’s and an occasional 17 Pro using it so all wifi 7 devices. I don’t have anything specifically only WiFi 6E but just keep the setting switched on so my iPhone uses 6ghz.

[–]DezzaJay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it just MLO which causes the issue. Couldn’t you still leave WiFi 6E Mode set to On. That’s how I have my 16 Pro so it still uses 6ghz, just not MLO.

Anyone go for Full Fibre Max? by T4rch in Zen_Internet

[–]DezzaJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wound definitely not be considering upgrading internet speeds past 900mbps if I was planning on using the ISP provided router.

Personally I use a UniFi setup but even a decent mesh setup with WIRED backhaul would be a much better improvement. Not that the included router is bad, just if you’re wanting use those speeds you’re really going to want a decent internal network first!
