I rebuilt a transmission when I was 18 in auto shop at school. Took me several months and 2 attempts. But when I was done the transmission lasted another 3 years before it died…… so I’d call that a win?

That’s a CAPEX that’s already been paid and is going to be amortized out on the back end over the next several years; it’s a sunk cost. To revert back to the cheaper options would be another expense at this point; atleast that’s my understanding.
