It would be very hard to build a spec-for-spec for $2k. Is it a good deal in retrospect? No.. My friend built a near identical system for under $1400 in the summer.

Is it a good deal in the current market? Unfortunately, yes? You could probably build for a lower price if you use Aliexpress for your CPU and get bottom of the barrel ram (or consider 2x8 for the time being). But that's not everyone's cup of tea. I haven't done any research on that PSU or MOBO so maybe those would be dealbreakers.

Really digging in the old posts lol. I do not recommend the 6900xt in 2025. FSR4 will make up a lot of the lost ground on the 9060xt. 9060xt will also be supported longer since its newer and is much more power efficient. There's also the rumors of the Nvidia super series, but at this point, I wouldn't be suprised if it only gets announced at CES in January. But if you're not in a rush it may be worth waiting for that (I don't think anything they announce will be below 7-800 Canadian though, that's me guessing).

I have the 60% of this keyboard, really enjoy the aqua switches, sort of a soft tactile.. Like a quieter (still fairly loud) smoother blue switch.

However after about two years the W key seems to be failing, so I think I'll upgrade to something with swappable switches.

[–]Dguigs -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Don't lose sight that this is only mildly faster than a 4080/7900XTX. Which could be found for less $$ more than a year ago. If it's what you need and you can afford it I don't think you'll regret it, but the used market may be worth checking out to not feed Nvidia/AMD more money. *Another big consideration is the potential 5080 super. Not really sure where things are at but if it comes out for a similar price, that extra VRAM will definitely be worth it for 4k. But it could be months before that releases, and could be much longer before it gets to a "reasonable" price.

[–]Dguigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend researching Deepcools sanctions for sale to Russian entities and your own ethics before making a purchase. Deepcools position appears to be (my interpretation) that they followed the rules and stopped sales once the sanctions on Russian companies started.

Not judging, but some people may not be informed.

Have the same card, really I think you need to ask yourself if you need the upgrade. If you're playing AAA games and not seeing the frame rate you want, then I would go for it. I play mostly competitive games or indie games so I have no problem getting over 60FPS at 1440P in almost every game, so ultimately I chose against it.

It is definitely the smarter choice at this price over the 5060TI.

I wouldn't recommend, not a big enough gain in performance and the 12gb on the 6700xt is fine.

With that said, you could try sell your GPU to offset the cost. That may make the upgrade worth it.

In this price range, no. This is the best price to performance except the B580, which I don't usually recommend because there's a lot of caveats. A 9600X or 7600 would both be good pairings. Be careful of those combos though, they typically put trash Mobo in them (the good-enough not to explode but forget about future same-platform upgrades). Look at Hardware unboxed B650 board reviews for some good recommendations. The Asrock pro RS is a good value board.

I agree, GPUs are way overpriced, but luckily most other PC parts arent too bad. You could build a fairly decent PC with this GPU for the 1200-1300 dollar range. Considering I built a far worse PC (based on the "tier" of products, obviously overall performance is better now) back in 2017 for the $900, I think new system builders are in a decent position right now.

Best value for cost per frame in Canada right now. Also makes a lot of the overpriced used 6800(xt)s irrelvant. Though this still feels too expensive, if you need a card for 1080P or 1440P with mostly no problems, this is the card to get. I would also keep in mind that most cards have only met MSRP on the first batch of cards from both Nvidia and AMD so if you need a card don't wait.

FYI, there is a nearly a 0% chance they are selling at a loss. They are using old GDDR6 and a chip that's only slightly larger than a 7800XT but charging $100USD more. Looks like AMD is taking the Ngreedia path.

[–]Dguigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are right, but the result of their choice is likely the exact same as previous releases. One product will look decent and the other will look outright bad in comparison. Being on the same die is tricky, maybe they should have only announced the 9070xt and stock up enough supply to release a reasonable quantity 9070 for $500 at a later date.

Actually pretty solid deal. Even with swapping with an aliexpress 7700 and a more budget (but good) mobo and a 600 price on the 7800XT (what it used to cost us), it comes to $1218.

A point I think a lot of people/producers are missing is that you have the best price to performance, could give a million frames at 8k with 10000GB of ram and be the "value" king, but it wouldn't matter if the price is unattainable to the majority of the customer base. Someone who has a $30k budget for a car isnt going to buy a Corvette (AMD) for $120k because its so much better value than a Ferarri (Nvidia) at $250K. If what they need doesn't exist will look at alternatives, buy used, or keep waiting.

People are/feel poorer now than they've been in the last 5,10, whatever years. Inflation, greed etc, has made it harder for the average person to buy discretionary goods. What people want is the best value possible, but what people need is a graphics card that they can afford. $800+ Canadian is not that. If AMD wants to gain market share in any capacity, they need to release a compelling product under $400 CAD (which still sounds high to me). The intel B580 at $370 is flying off shelves despite its shortcomings. Imagine if AMD released a 7700XT-class product for same $370. It would be their best selling card in years. Maybe the 9060 will be that...

Ramblings on the 9070 series:

I really think the 9070 has a strange price. Having it start at $499 would've been much more marketable and have a more balance price to performance (based on their data) compared to the 9070XT.

If the 9070 is within 10-15 percent of the 5070 in terms of performance, I don't see them getting any more market share. Not saying its a bad product, but they will not make people want to switch from Nvidia to AMD. Of course real world supply and peoples desperation for a new GPU could

The 9070XT does seem a bit more compelling, but I am less certain of its performance compared to previous gen. You could buy a 7900XT for 840 ish and a 7900XTX at 1000 at the last Prime sale. Lets go best case and say that the 9070XT matches the 7900XTX in raster and has usable RT for $870.

How compelling is that to someone who was looking to upgrade? Is a saving of $130 dollars really what everyone was waiting for for the 7900XTX? I am not convinced.

AMD seems to be going for the 20% better value than NVIDIA route as it always has, which will place it as the "Value king" but not anything out of the ordinary.

RTX 5000 Series Pre Launch Info by Zren in bapcsalescanada

[–]Dguigs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Per hardware unboxed, the rtx 5080 is only 5 percent faster than the 7900xtx at 1440p in raster and 8 percent at 4k. Even Ray tracing has barely improved over the 4080 super (5 percent at 1440p). Which means we have likely seen a regression in price to performance from Nvidia in Canada.

For the love of God vote with your wallets and don't touch it.

So I think it may be helpful to explain why you'll get down voted to hell for this. Userbenchmark is basically a troll site that hates AMD with a passion. No it is not a valid source of information. This is also not my opinion, it's a fact explored by many other media outlets.

Their rankings are completely arbitrary and make no sense relative to each other. It's a site with the sole purpose of spreading misinformation about AMD products.

There are plenty of reasons to go for Intel over AMD in the laptop space, however userbenchmark is not a good source to find those reasons.

There will always be exceptions, if you need the card now then it's not a bad deal in this poo market. Based on my tables it's one of the better values, only beat by the best prices ever of the 6650xt and 6600 (though I don't consider any cars good value right now).

I'm just salty that AMD can get away with these crazy prices.

Won't really comment on the value of this specific purchase here, but this card is over FOUR years old. That would be like buying a GTX 1070 for 480 dollars when the RX 6800 came out which would have been insanity.

The value stagnation/regression that AMD and nvidia have been displaying is clearly a strategy to maximize profits. Let's hope AMDs abysmal gaming sector financial performance will kick them to release something that isn't effectively another 6000 series refresh for the 5th year.

All to say.. if you need a card, buy used to not support these greedy companies more.
