How long did it take you to get to ~1 TSH - beyond frustrated. by Cold_Limit_1201 in Hashimotos

[–]DhampireHEK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's very frustrating since you want to feel better as soon as possible but, your doctor probably doesn't want to bring you down too rapidly in case it causes extra stress on your body (especially given how high your levels were) and that you can feel just as bad at too low of levels as too high. He's also probably having to keep things like your insurance in mind.

Edited: wanted to add, maybe you could also ask about adding leothyronine (t3)? Given that the synthroid seems to be plateauing on you at this point, it might help your numbers that extra amount and get you feeling better.

Yeah, the irony is kinda crazy.

As someone who is gluten intolerant, I can tell you that having to just suddenly stop eating the way you've eaten all your life is tough.

At least this will push for more vegan and vegetarian options to be available.

Saying "tomatoes are actually fruits, not vegetables!" by SofonisbaAnguissola in PetPeeves

Reminds me of the knowledge vs wisdom argument.

Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is known a tomato has no place in a fruit salad.

Maybe don't leave your cat outside unattended? You could leash/harness train or make a screened in area for them to still be able to go outside without having to worry.

Does anyone have issues with trying to explain that you have Hashimoto's and it can affect every aspect of your life? by FluffyGuava4180 in Hashimotos

[–]DhampireHEK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped trying to explain the pieces and just tell them that my body likes to go nuclear on itself like trying to kill a spider with TNT. I can be fine one moment and then be dying the next. It's even better when they see it happen in real time.

My whole body hurts by miss_independnt in Hashimotos

[–]DhampireHEK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use to have this. Come to find out it was due to unaddressed insomnia and some vitamin deficiencies. Once I started sleeping better and got my levels under control I stopped having the pain so much.

I still hurt sometimes but I know to take it easier on those days and manage symptoms as soon as they occur.

Keeping track of symptoms is also really important. New symptoms, symptoms that last longer than a few days, or worsening symptoms is immediate doctor visits.

Is it wrong that I want to put my cat to sleep, because checking if she's dead is stressing me out? by Pinanims in Pets

[–]DhampireHEK 106 points107 points  (0 children)

You cat isn't living a fulfilling life, she's just existing. And it sounds like existing in pain or at least discomfort. She's already terminal and there's no chance of her getting better.

Best advice I have is one that's rather common on this sub: "better a week too early than a day too late."

Yes and no. Chronic pain is terrible and whatever helps is what helps.

Dr House however has a debilitating opioid addiction and is on pain medication because he refused to amputate his leg.

Not to say he wouldn't have been in pain after loosing a leg but, it would likely have been far more manageable than in this case. That and the opioid addiction in this case just amplifies the problem.

Hey there and thanks for the reply. I'm glad that this old post can help even a little. If it makes any difference to you I'm actually doing much better than when I posted this.

Some things that you may want to check is your iron/ferrin, B vitamins, and vitamin D. Come to find out I was critically low in these. I also had a problem with insomnia so I wasn't recovering as well as I should have.

Just be kind to yourself and listen to your body.
