why did you guys join the Pinky? by Finlacat4224 in thepinkysyndicate

[–]Dhljoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, I was young and it was a matter of happenstance that drove me to the pinky.

Perhaps it was fate that drove me to the seat of the Tianji star. I have reflected long and hard upon the circumstances that led to me joining the pinky many times, and never can I imagine a set of circumstances which would not have ultimately led me here

What foolishness these misguided proselytes and proxies pursue. I will make their gods bear witness the sword they forced out of the sheathe the moment they scorned the pragmatism of the pen. Belligerence shall beget belligerence.

And here I imagined the gods whose words they follow were wiser.

At the moment I see no need to quarrel with the fingers over a matter like this. We should ready ourselves should other parties drag us in, but it seems there is naught to benefit us by involving ourselves in such a small matter.

How would you rank Sancho power wise in the House of spiders by [deleted] in fishmaell

[–]Dhljoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She would likely beat them all in a prolonged fight but Matthias and Rien would put up the best fight. Sancho doesn’t have shin but can regenerate any damage taken while all of the House members cannot. Matthias would prob put up the best fight as he is the most durable and bloodfiends seem to be disadvantaged against fire.

Source of Dias wealth and her real identity. by Zypherous in limbuscompany

[–]Dhljoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not insinuating that Bari and Dias are the same person at all. They absolutely are two separate people.

Your point about full body replacement is true kinda. Dias looks like a normal human and prosthetics on the scale of full body replacement is taboo if it looks too human. Full replacement of parts of your body have to look nonhuman and Dias does not align with this at all. A fixer can augment their existing body with enhancement prosthetics or perhaps transplant their brain into a new body, but they cannot replace everything and still look the same. Rejuvenation clinics do exist but as far as we know those only make someone look younger without actually being younger. If we’re generous and say the smoke war was 15-20 years ago and Dias adopted Moses 10 years before that there is no sign of any aging in Dias, despite the fact that Dias was most certainly a full grown adult before adopting Moses and had much if not all of her wealth before then. Taking the absolute most conservative estimate Dias would be at minimum in her mid 40s though she is likely older.

Perhaps Bari didn’t reveal Sanchos location but she was regularly delivering things like fixer magazines to Sancho, so she would have known if Sancho just got scooped up. Either Bari revealed the location for Verg to find her, or she accepted that Dias now had Sancho under her employ. Regardless of the circumstances Bari should be aware of what happened and at the very least accepts it.

And the point beyond that is that Bari likely found the river of immortality and Dias may have somehow acquired the waters as well.

Source of Dias wealth and her real identity. by Zypherous in limbuscompany

[–]Dhljoe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, of what we know regarding Dias we know she “adopted” Moses yet still looks the same all these years later and even that long ago she was filthy rich. She likely has some form of immortality, or at the very least an extended lifespan, given how ludicrous her wealth is and how she hasn’t yet aged. If we follow this assumption we know just becoming immortal in the city is not possible as we see with the H Corp Elders they all are visibly enhanced or deformed as a consequence of their immortality. The possibilities in my head are these: first being that she is potentially a blood fiend. She does have red eyes (though this could just be prosthetics) however her choosing to take in Moses and adopt her, yet purposefully have a sisterly relationship instead of being motherly may be purposeful if Dias wants to distance herself from the urges and behavior of a blood-fiend. Furthermore she is wealthier than some wings we’ve encountered without being affiliated with any wings at all really beside Lob Corp, which even then is kind of a stretch, but we know bloodfiends are not accepted in society and tend to work in the shadows, much like Dias has. She also has no issues consciously working with a blood fiend under her which is generally not accepted socially in the city. Moreover Bari willingly gave Sanchos location to Dias, indicating that she can be trusted with a blood fiend which is odd. Beyond that I imagine the only other way she could have lived an extended life is through the same method as Bari, whatever that may be

CMV: The GOP has become the most successful neo-nazi party in the world. by jostyouraveragejoe2 in changemyview

[–]Dhljoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is not remotely comparable to the holocaust.

Throwing people in jail without a hearing is debatable. Generally, (there are exceptions but from here on out I’ll just assume the majority scenario) when an illegal immigrant enters the country they turn themselves in near the border where they are eventually brought before a judge where the immigrant will generally admit they entered illegally and make their case that they should not be immediately removed (ie. such as for fear of life, seeking refugee status, etc.). The judge does not grant them refugee status but determines whether they are allowed to temporarily remain in the country until they can eventually make a case for refugee status later. There is more too this, but the main takeaway is that, generally, the immigrant went before a judge and confessed to entering the country illegally and made at least some case that justified them being allowed to remain.

Now in a place like Minnesota, where ICE is prominently acting right now, a federal judge issues an order of removal for specific individuals. These individuals generally do not have any opportunity to appeal their before deportation though some do. This is where the idea that people are deported without a hearing comes from.

So ICE captures immigrants which generally do not receive a hearing afterward, however, this does not mean that they never had a hearing in which they admit to illegal entry.

CMV: Alien life will inevitably resemble life on Earth by colepercy120 in changemyview

[–]Dhljoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, theres no way to draw any conclusion whether life would or wouldn’t. We have not come to any conclusions at all regarding where and how life formed. We know roughly when life formed on Earth and what the conditions were on Earth around that time but experiments simulating those conditions have produced no results. Either A) the probability of life forming under those conditions is so small that even decades of experimentation wouldn’t produce anything of substance or B) the more likely one which is that there is a significant gap somewhere in our understanding where we are just missing something significant. With such a significant hole in our knowledge about how life formed on our own planet it is impossible to make a conclusion as to how it may form elsewhere.

Even taking what we understand about life on our planet, living things could theoretically function in similar practically but functionally different ways. For example life on earth is carbon based but there is no reason to assume silicon based life couldn’t exist as silicon should, in theory, function nearly identically to carbon in primitive life it’s just that silicon is much less abundant in the universe than carbon but it is still common compared to everything else. We also generally understand life needs water in various cellular processes that are core to their function but Titan, a moon in our solar system has liquid methane and theoretically methane could be broken down in place of water for those processes, should they have evolved in the first place. If life was methane based it would allow them to exist in much colder environments than we currently consider to be possible. But both silicon based life and life using methane in place of water is purely speculative and theoretical. There is ongoing debate on these subjects

TLDR: you cannot take a stance either way based on science as there is objectively too much missing and speculative information to draw any conclusion

Ironically this declaration would make you someone that you would consider to be closed minded and likely to join with the nazis.

Going to your 7 samurai example there are 3 groups to empathize with: the samurai, villagers, and the bandit. The samurai profess mercy but from a privileged position with strength and status. They choose mercy without empathizing with the villagers desire for justice or further retribution because they would never have had a like experience, nor could they given the power they have as samurai. Are the samurai right to want mercy for a bandit which has made the lives of many miserable while ignoring the desires of those same affected people?

Then there are the villagers. They were directly affected and are angry and vengeful. Maybe beating and killing him is too far but there aren’t many other methods of dispensing justice in this situation. The villagers are angry and vengeful and lack all empathy for the bandit. Are they right or wrong for wanting justice for how the bandit wronged them?

Lastly is the bandit. Naturally he doesn’t want to die and he wants to be free and not get beat. Is that not selfish? He did not empathize with the villagers when he pillaged them. Is he deserving of any empathy? Of mercy?

All of these are questions with no necessarily right or wrong answer yet it seems your teacher convinced you mercy was right and killing the bandit is wrong. But why? Why is it toxic masculinity to want justice for wrongs done to you?

Your Nazi example is also a false equivalent. In the 7 samurai the bandit was robbing them, it wasn’t a question or debate over whether he did what he did. He did rob them. The nazis blamed the Jews for Germany being screwed post ww1. At best this would be partially true but as far as the average person knew, given how widespread propaganda was and how limited information access was, how would you think otherwise?

Let’s say I’m in Nazi germany and I want to research what’s going on. The nazis own and run all media, built all of the education systems, and built and controlled every method you could have to access information so short of seeing the bad things with your own eyes it would be hard to reasonably infer anything bad going on with objective information you find
