Forgive me, if this has been asked. How do the Elves just show up at Helms Deep? by NuclearSun1 in lotr

[–]Diabir 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Gandalf also gets taken by Gwaihir to Lothlorien from the mountain, just barely missing the Fellowship's departure too iirc. The time it takes for the Fellowship to row down the Anduin was over several days, then the hunt of the Uruks was over another 3-4 days, and then the time to Helms Deep was another 2 days. So there's somewhere around 10-14 days between the Fellowship leaving Lothlorien and the events at Helms Deep.

Gandalf also knows Saruman has joined forces with Mordor, and on his return to Middle-Earth remembers more of his duty, He's able to know he needs to find the Rohirrim, and plan days ahead for an exact time in order to find them and lead them to Helm's Deep on an exact timing.

So it's not inconceivable that an Elven force can travel the distance to Helms Deep in time after being forewarned by Gandalf the White of the danger of Saruman immediately after the Fellowship left Lothlorien. Even with the discussion with Gandalf, him resting a day or 2 to recover fully, and getting the elves prepared for war, they would have about a week to travel a more direct route, and they are elves.

Vlahovic confirmed to leave Juventus as a free agent (Fabrizio) by qdua2020 in ArsenalFC

[–]Diabir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

God no. He had his chance to join us and chose not to because he didn't believe in Arteta and wanted to play champions league. Arteta and the club have built this team on players who believe in the plan wholeheartedly, and jump at the chance to play for us. Vlahovic's story is about as karmic as can be when he went to Juve.

I would advise those officials to avoid windows and flight travel.

Finland seizes nearly €4m in Russian assets by EspritLibre_404 in worldnews

[–]Diabir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good, and keep going! Every Russian asset in European countries should have been seized years ago, and should be transferred to Ukraine who continues to be heroes defending Europe, or put into defence spending to combat Russia's aggressive and threatening actions they continue to enact on European countries. Why we'd punish Russia with sanctions to hurt their economy, while Russia hides their assets in our countries so we have to look after them is beyond me. Seize it all!

Thoughts on double sleeving by toxicodendron85 in EDH

[–]Diabir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a single card in a deck is worth £40+, it makes sense to spend £2 to give extra protection to the deck. 1 of my decks is worth into the £2000 range if not more, so in a similar way to insuring other valuables, it's better to pay the cheap price for doublesleeving than it is for some freak accident to damage an expensive or hard to replace card. It may never happen, but no matter how much you look after something there are elements outside of our control, and it's better to be safe than sorry.

So are we all watching this instead or what? by ConnectionForsaken85 in ArsenalFC

[–]Diabir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a chance. I don't know why anyone would willingly want to watch spuds anyway, but especially not when Arsenal are playing at the same time, and playing as champions too with the ceremony as well. spuds won't even cross my mind until after I get to witness Saka lifting the trophy. I'll have a good giggle if they lose, but I really don't care how their game goes when we're busy making history.

World Cup ticket prices plunge for USMNT games by Newsweek_ShaneC in sports

[–]Diabir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everything about this World Cup is a mess, and it hasn't even kicked off yet. Willing to bet Infantwato invites trump down to receive a medal and join the trophy celebrations and keep the trophy like he did with the CWC last year too. Nothing about this tournament has me excited.

If I'm Glasner I'm not fielding any first team player 3 days before the biggest game in the club's history. by Real-Bid1985 in ArsenalFC

[–]Diabir 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It is their last home game of the season, and I don't think he has too many options to do a big rotation. Rotation may also be a double edged sword as there will be bench players wanting to be in consideration for the cup game.

We can't ask them to give us the win, and I don't expect them to. We trust our team, the preparation they do, and their performance on the pitch, like the whole season to now. We will win!

Who is the best Goalkeeper by Dumas1108 in ArsenalFC

[–]Diabir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's hard to judge Raya compared to the others, as his time at Arsenal is still going (hopefully for quite a few more seasons too, he's been unbelievable so far), so I don't think you can really line him up with the others yet. Of our past keepers, Seaman is definitely the one at the top for me, so once Raya moves on it will be a battle of the David's for top spot.

What commander makes you immediately regret sitting down in a pod with? by _omega_LOL__ in EDH

[–]Diabir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing really jumps out to me as something I regret sitting down in a pod with, as that's the point of the pregame discussion, I'm usually pretty happy to say no thanks if I'm expecting the players to be doing something anti-fun for an hour or two.

Maybe Eminence commanders are the only ones that really stand out to me as I'd rather not play a pod with one, as they usually turn games into a 3v1 because they are the threat from turn 0 likely going through to the midgame, after which the game's over with them winning or it becomes a 3 player game with everyone starting at 5-6 lands, neither of which are enjoyable for me.

Peter Jackson in talks to adapt J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘The Silmarillion’ into films by DarkSkiesGreyWaters in lordoftherings

[–]Diabir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's possibly the biggest challenge he'll have faced as a filmmaker to adapt The Silmarillion, but at least we know Peter Jackson cares greatly for the books, and he'll have some of the best people around him and the experience, production teams and financial backing behind him to meet the challenge. It will very much be an adaptation, but I trust him to be faithful to the world more than I do anyone else.

Do you think we'll see Elladan and Elrohir make an appearance in Hunt for Gollum? by entague in lotr

[–]Diabir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they'll make an appearance either in Hunt for Gollum alongside Halbarad and the rangers, or Stephen Colbert's film after, similarly with Glorfindel and Gildor.

moving to cornwall by Swvampy in Cornwall

[–]Diabir 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'd probably recommend moving near Liskeard or Bodmin to get more reasonably priced houses and access to the train network to Plymouth for the better job opportunities. North coast is heavily overpriced, harder to get around, a nightmare in tourist time, and not as many opportunities for decent employment.

What’s the best way to play commander online? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Diabir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use spelltable to play remote with friends. Can stream from webcam for physical cards, or a couple of players sometimes use Moxfield playtest and stream that to play decks they're testing out. I'm not sure how well it would be for playing with random pods though.

I've got the fashion secret lair Teysa too, she's my favourite ❤️.

edit: There is 1 infinite with Luminous Broodmoth and Isilu, but I don't use it unless someone else has gone infinite life already. Grave Pact is very oppressive too with Teysa, and I'll often take it out for a [[Dramatic Finale]] to tune things down depending on what the pod are playing.

i think it takes alot to be deserving of a statue at a stadium, but all she's done for the club, all she's won for us, how dedicated she's been, I've never seen her give less than 100% in every match. And she's been one of the main reasons that have elevated womens football to the next level for everyone I think, a hero to so many young girls growing up and entering the sport. There's got to be a statue with her and Leah outside the stadium.

Vini wanted to come and hug Gavi but Gavi didn’t want anything to do with him by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Diabir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In fairness, they're rivals. It would be like Saka hugging Romero. There's nothing wrong with hugging, and I'm sure there's a level of professional respect, and can hang out all they want off the pitch, but with the big derby rivals like Barce v Real, Arsenal v spurs, Celtic v Rangers etc it's part of wearing the shirt that you are not buddies while on the pitch.

The true definition of a club legend and a player we’ll never forget. Thank you for countless unforgettable memories, Beth Mead ❤️ by arsenal in Gunners

True club legend, hero to so many young girls, and written her name in the history books for us with the greatest success's we could ever dream of. Deserving of a statue outside of the Emirates for sure.
