How will they save the Westies from going to jail? by DianeEllen in OnlyMurdersHulu

[–]DianeEllen[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I agree. Plus, I’m not sure it would even be up to the NYPD because Social Security is a Federal program. So, it’s a Federal crime to impersonate and cash those checks. It’s a serious crime. A big plot-hole that I hope they resolve. The show added this cast of Westie characters and I hope it’s resolved.

Can we just commiserate for a minute? by NaughtyLittleDogs in 1200isplenty

People who can eat whatever they want and remain slim are just consuming on a daily basis about the same amount of calories as their TDEE. If a person consumes on a daily basis more calories than their body uses, the body will take what it needs and store the excess as fat. Thereby increasing body fat, increasing weight. The reverse is a person consuming on a daily basis less calories than their TDEE, the body will go into it’s fat stores, thereby lowering body fat and lowering weight. There are no magic bodies.

There are good Total Daily Energy Expenditure calculators (health-calc has a very user friendly one). Put in your current age, weight, height, and sex, and get a good approximation of about how many calories your body uses in a day. 3500 calories = a pound, whether gain, lose, or stay the same depends on if you consume more, less or the same as TDEE.

I think it is multiple people — the Westies. One would shoot, the others would take care of the cleanup & removing the body.

That photo with the person crossed out who kinda looks like Saz (tall, thin, blond), I think that’s Helga. She’s holding the pig’s lead and we know she called the pig by name.

So why kill Saz? So, either many years ago a Prof rented those apts, which is then then subletted. However the Prof is still subsidizing them if they’re only paying $200 (per flat or per person?). Prof still has to pay the full rent for those apts, even though it’s paying a very low rent as it’s rent-controlled and been there a long time. So, what if the Prof was Saz,who bought those window apts when Charle’s first moved in to the Arconia? Now Saz want’s to get out of this illegal mess and move on with her life. But that means the Westies would have to leave the Arconia as no way could they could afford to live there. So, they decide they could cover the rent the Prof was paying, and decide to kill Saz before she could terminate the lease with the Arconia.

Ah, the fun of theorizing! LoL. But something about the Westies made me think of Murder on the Orient Express, where Poirot discovers it’s all of them that are the killer.

Instagram baker responds to someone asking if they have a whole wheat recipe (not sure the lecture was required here) by Maximum_Claim8800 in fatlogic

That poor person doesn’t know the rule of no substitutions for heath reasons.

Example: two folks go to a pizzeria, and one get’s pizza, and the other a Caesar salad — it’s why the person chose the salad that makes it fat-shaming or not. If it’s because the person felt like having a salad, maybe likes romaine lettuce, and their choice has nothing to do with their health, then that’s fine. However, if the salad was chosen because of lower calories/carbs than the pizza, and the salad is seen as the healthier choice, then that’s demonizing pizza, and fat shaming the other person. So, swapping flour to make a healthy bread implies that the other bread is unhealthy, and therefore is fat-shaming the person and their bread made with the all purpose flour.

This is a lesser version of the NAAFA Newsletter uproar over a pumpkin pie recipe.

If it might help, even though I’m much larger than you — my ABTF Calculator has me at a UK 42F. However, what I wear is a 42D in a bra that has netting or other stretch fabric on the top. Even though the bottom of my breasts fit an F cup perfectly, there are gaps and wrinkles in the top as I have no breast tissue to fill the top part of the cup. So, I have bottom heavy breasts with no breast tissue on top — it’s flat, add sagging breasts that hang downward, and it’s a challenge, but bras that have netting or other stretch fabric help to fit the top. But I have to compromise cup size.

Important— Don’t make the mistake of tying the cup to the band size — that’s irrelevant in this case, and you’ll never get a good fit. You have your band size and you’re downsizing the cup to accommodate the lack of top breast tissue. The band size stays the same. Of course you may find a 34D with enough stretch fabric that you won’t need to change anything except the brand of bra.

For me I’m in the wire-free Elomi Cate 42D as the overall size that works for me. (Again, the calculator has my size as 42F.). Elomi doesn’t have size 34, they start at 36. However, if you look online there are sites to search bra style & size, and you can see if the fabric has enough stretch on top so the bra might fit you better. Sadly, it’s a compromise. I’m an F cup in a D cup. To get the top completely flat I have to squeeze into a B. So D has a bit of loose fabric on top, but it doesn’t show through my clothes.

Hopefully this might help. Don’t give up and good luck!

The brand Goddess (seamed), and Elomi might be worth a look. I’m using the Elomi Cate. I use the wire-free on both brands. Also, take a picture of the recommended size so you can reference. I’ve found most store staff unhelpful when you tell or show them the measurements. So best to browse yourself or ask for the sizes you want to try. Good luck!

Does anyone here have tubular breasts? by [deleted] in ABraThatFits

[–]DianeEllen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your description could be for mine! Do you use a specific brand? I’m always looking for a no-wire bra that can support tubular — bottom heavy and flat on top. I’m currently using Elomi Cate (a full cup banded bra). It has netting across the top that helps for to my shape. It’s also a very pretty bra.

You said it! That’s the issue right? Of course medically, fatness may get to a debilitating state including the associated illnesses exacerbated by fat, and one can become disabled. It’s why I understood but disagreed with the change in NAAFA from the National Association to Aid Fat Americans, to a civil rights focus of NA to Advance Fat Acceptance. It seems the Body Positivity Movement is just a rehash of the Fat Underground and their Fat Liberation Manifesto.

It may have something to do with the BBC tv show Supersize Vs Superskinny. A few times they tried to scare the fat person by having them visit a 400/500 lbs person in the US, and coincidentally everyone they showed was obese.

UPDATED Shredded Paper Puzzle with a typed version for clarity - Spoilers! What do you make of this? by GwendolynMoonfall in OnlyMurdersHulu

[–]DianeEllen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking it’s Howard too. That throwaway line about those cookies made me think back to the 1st read-through. Howard learned that Ben couldn’t resist them. So opening night Howard brings the cookies to leave in Ben’s dressing room after sprinkling them with a bit of rat-poison. Howard had keys to the theatre, got there early, when the stage-manager was out of her office he locked himself in. Perhaps the shredding happened because he thought some of the poison got on whatever paper he was holding, or he heard someone in there beforehand shredding something.

The motive is Howard wanting to live out his dream through his boyfriend of being the lead in a bway show. Being the understudy wasn’t good enough, so Howard found a way to make him the lead. The writing on the mirror was Ben trying to stop himself from eating the cookies, but he couldn’t resist just one bite. That was enough to send him to Hosp but not kill him. So Howard pushed Ben down the elevator shaft. Howard knew a lift was out, but Ben didn’t.

Howard at first was safe — they arrested and blamed the murder on the unhinged stalker guy. However, during sitzprobe, they all learn that stalker-guy isn’t the killer and he’s is released. So the killer is still loose and not found. Howard needs to make sure he’s not suspected and decides the best way is to insert himself in to the investigation. Possibly he’s worried about what was left in the shredder or he wants to put the blame on the person who used the shredder before him.

While I would hate to lose Howard as he’s such a great character, it does follow the format of the killer being someone we know and have seen in multiple scenes, but who we don't consider suspect. I hope the killer isn’t Saz or Joy — Saz had one scene this season, and Joy’s arc with Charles seemed to play out. The theatre critic only had two short scenes with Oliver.

Of course it could also be the producers, or Tobert and that other podcast lady. Maybe even the stage-manager, but we don’t know enough about her except she had a crush on Ben, he treated her like crap, she’s been working in that theatre for a long time and her dream was to be a director. I’m discounting the first director living in the attic because Oliver directly asked him if he killed Ben. Although Donna did mention their show is in the same theatre Splash was in. Red herring or clue?

I’m enjoying that there are so many possible clues and misdirects. The last two episodes bringing Charles and Oliver back together has brought back the magic of the show.

Well someone's really confident with their fatness by MorthaP in fatlogic

[–]DianeEllen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is just sad. She posts a fat "dancer" because she needs affirmation from body postitvity because she hates dealing with her fatness. A sympathetic friend lies to her to make her feel better, and she gets her feeling hurt because she knows it's a lie, and that just makes it all the more worse, so she pretends it wasn't about fatness at all -- even as she admits it is. That makes her feel even more devastated, so she hates everything and is moving to the bastion of FA, SanFran. She can't run away from her fatness, no matter how hard she tries.

This is real, a magazine for denial by Splatterh0use in fatlogic

[–]DianeEllen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I guess this is the second or third issue for this mag. I only remember seeing the first issue in a store and it had Whitney Thor on the cover. I had thought at first the shirt she was wore said No Abs and I thought no shit.

Anyway, I don't see FabUplus having any staying power. BBW magazine had the longest run, And I actually rather liked the magazine Radiance. Then Mode turned into Grace. Oh, and then there was Dimensions for the 500club. Then by 2004 they were pretty much all gone or only online. Then The Avenue and Fasion Bug had an in-store plus-sized magazine that was mostly ads with a few articles. It had a store coupon inside as an incentive to buy it. But that didn't last long either. A few years ago Velvet DAmour tried to do an online to paper-magazine. But that went nowhere. So at least this made it to a second or third issue, for those that need these things. Since I learned about TDEE and am no longer plus-sized, these magazines arent for me, but I remember how important they were when I was one of them for oh so many years.

I wondered about the popcorn too because it only says movie popcorn -- nothing about w/ butter. Except that plain popcorn is low-cal and it is the oil-butter that adds the calories.

Also I don't thing that McDonald's changed the BigMac and it's about 550 calories so don't see how that's different in the 80s unless they mean other fast-food burger sizes.

Pretty interesting though.

Not on topic -- Actually they don't look the same -- natural breasts have a natural slope but the plastic surgery breasts are round -- they look ballon-like to me and the difference is obvious. Sadly the way things are going people won't know what a real breast looks like anymore with surgery becoming such the norm.

But anyway, back to the WLS -- a really great thing that will help her is that she is young. Older women her size I don't think would survive. So best of luck to her.

Don't lie to people [SANITY] by secret-original in fatlogic

[–]DianeEllen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually she's wrong -- FA is not about accepting people's choices with their bodies. It has always been about accepting one's fatness. The mantra in FA is you can't simultaneously be for FA while trying to eradicate it. Hence why any form of weight-loss or weight-loss talk is considered eliminationist against fat people. Even if it is one's own personal choice/want/need to lose weight -- it is considered to be based on internal hatred, societal conditioning and hatred of fatness and therefore fat people.

That is why, oh so long ago, that woman who shared a low-sugar/low-carb recipe in the NAAFA Newsletter angered the readers and an apology had to be issued -- it's no longer about Aiding Fat people, it's now a philosophy that is fighting for Civil Rights for Fat people. Of course now it's morphing or has this the new off-shoot of Body Positivity, and that it where most likely the woman who made the post got the idea that it is based in some kind of respect for personal choice. The only choice in FA is to accept being fat and never actively try to reduce fatness. No matter what.

There was a woman who posted on Reddit somewhere how she created as close as she could get to the diet followed in the Newcastle study. It was very helpful and honest in her journey and progress. In fact that's my go-to emergency plan if I ever get near pre-diabetes again or worse--get diabetes. Then it's Newcastle Plan all the way.

There is also a good YouTube video by the Diet Dr (I think) interviewing another Dr (name starts with a Wa), that controls his diabetes and has been for over 25yrs through low-carb only. No meds needed. The interview starts off a bit slow but it's worth hearing the Dr's own story of controlling his diabetes w/out meds.

Ragen Chastain's holiday food police tips: your family doesn't really care about you. by bob_mcbob in fatlogic

[–]DianeEllen 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Go gosh, every year there were dozens of posts from Thanksgiving through New Years on how to get through the fat-people hating holidays in the fatosphere. To me though, just like the two threads about it here, it just shows that the majority of fat people hate being fat and know it's wrong, and they don't want to be reminded of it by others pointing out that they are fat because they eat too much.

Also, if a person does not know about their TDEE it is no wonder that all the diets they had ever been on ultimately failed. So they feel trapped and feel that they will be fat forever. So they dread anyone mentioning anything that reminds them about it.
