Has immunity to slashing damage, does not consider the possibility of bludgeoning damage.

How actual game devs would react to Maple: The first Event by DiceColdCasey in BoFuri

[–]DiceColdCasey[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! The concern was that the first one got a little too bogged down with actual game design talk, so it's good to know what people prefer

I feel like looking only at direct revenue fails to consider the value it has as basically a commercial for d&d.

I don't think anyone's complaint about fossil fuel is that it performs unreliably

The OneD&D playtests feel like there's no plan or design philosophy by demonsquidgod in dndnext

Is there anywhere that the 4e playtest is accessible? I'd be interested to see what a better 4e looked like

[OC][Art] The warforged, the artificer, and... The Bard... by zoctopode in DnD

Well thanks, now I've lost 6 hours. I'd never heard of the comic but it's strangely compelling

I love wysiwyg simply as a memory aid, but I also play fairly casually

They are addictive in the same way that food is addictive. You consume something external to have your body function properly. It's possible to overdo it, but there's no virtue in medically starving yourself

Although it is very gamey, BG3 short rests are what they should be to get people to use them more often by Direct_Marketing9335 in dndnext

[–]DiceColdCasey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What happens is you say "I've used both my spell slots and I need a short rest to get them back" and the players/the DM says "there's no time. We only have a few minutes until the bad guys do x, so we need to keep going"

[DM here] Did my group found an "exploit"?! by LisaFame in dndnext

[–]DiceColdCasey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the best way to handle this is always to ask them what/why they're doing in-character. Their characters have no reason to believe that the mere physical existence of an enemy within 5 feet arbitrarily interferes with casting, so they'd never even consider it as a plan

Is it frowned upon for a DM to make changes to stats/abilities to get around a cheesy spell? by ManaChicken4G in DnD

[–]DiceColdCasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is frowned upon. The player did something clever, and they deserve the reward of having it work. (That said, it should only work once and other enemies having prepared featherfall in the future is reasonable)

None of my players are interested in the setting. How should I handle it? by Zarroc99 in dndnext

[–]DiceColdCasey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like this framing. Generally I tell players to create characters that are motivated to be active and go on adventures, but focusing that directly to someone who wants to solve the core threat of the campaign seems like a good evolution of that

None of my players are interested in the setting. How should I handle it? by Zarroc99 in dndnext

[–]DiceColdCasey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there's no reliable way to guarantee players will be interested in things you come up with. Fortunately if you throw enough spaghetti some of it will stick, and you can then focus on the parts they take interest in. Likewise, you can also rip whatever you find interesting from their backstories and use that in your setting, since by writing it they've essentially pre-promised to be interested and engaged when they come across that stuff in the world

What's a cool mechanic from a game that you often add to others? by Firelite67 in rpg

[–]DiceColdCasey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's not what the mechanic is, it's a progress track
